Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

Surprisingly better than I expected. There were parts Capcom could have definitely half assed, but they actually ended up delivering with (particularly the amount of fodder NPCs to fight)

And honestly, it was just neat to see SF characters interacting with each other like this.

I like juri's addressing vega as a wierd perv. She made made me like her character more because of that.

So aside from the actually spear throwing african stereotype. Which probably deserves its own thread

The rest was fine enough, fang litterally using poison as pocket sand

The best scene is
the double OOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO

Didn't expect to see Karin get so much screen time

It'a quite amazing that Rashid wasn't reduced to a middle eastern stereotype. He's a fully fleshed out character.

With this and RE5 Capcom still can't figure out Africa.

I got up to the
Decapre = Cammy's sister reveal.
The plot is so cheesy but I love it, lol. Glad to see the Dolls get some shine too.

As a long time street fighter fan it wasn't bad and it put and made a lot of things make sense in the terms of setting up street fighter 3

capcom did good.

I'm pretty positive cinematic story mode was going to have different seasons. The end of this one feels a bit open to me. The way Bison "fades" and all that.

But since the game didn't match Capcom's inital expectations, who knows if will get it.

I was hoping that Sakura was going reveal herself in this... It was good. They're many flaws in it but it's entertaining.

And for me, Decapre and Abel are pretty much confirmed for "Season 2" (Who knows if even they'll come out before end of the year). Decapre pretty much has a complete move set and it's the only doll with unique grab animation as far as I recall. And I don't think they bottered to do a full 3d model for Abel if there aren't plans to include him on the game. On the other hand, I doubt Gill will make it.

The final chapter is a mix of the live action Street Fighter Movie and any big blockbuster superhero movie. Karin straight up assembles SF's version of the Avengers.

The best scene is
the double OOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO

Didn't expect to see Karin get so much screen time

That scene, Juri
calling out Vega
, and Rashid and Azam's reaction to Helen telling
Nash that he's dead
were my favorites. Juri kinda steals the show whenever she is around (which sadly isn't too often).

I like how Alex's one scene in the game was just to set up him traveling the world in SF3.

Definitely like that a quite a few characters got some screen time and in sensible ways, too. It made sense that Karin would have the resources to round everyone up, for example.

Only thing that really got a chuckle out of me was Juri and Cammy somehow making it all the way to London from Brazil on a motorcycle. Not a nitpick or anything, though.

Shin Abel was pretty hype. Bipson had the classic delicious line. Necalli was way more like Twelve than I was expecting. Vega was oddly enigmatic.

Nash kinda got swept to the side after being the only character with a backstory at the very end so hado jesus could come in out of nowhere to save the day.

I was pleasantly surprised how many story-only characters and stages there were. Definitely a lot of work was put into something that could have been more half-assed about. ggs Capcom. Was some good schlock.

Shin Abel, Decapre looking like quick picks for season two.

There is no choice capcom has in this matter, what you imply is capcom dropping support for this game within this year for no reason. And there is no escape the fan wrath who cry for more single player content. With Gil on the horizon there is obviously going to be another expansion to the story mode dealing with third strike and beyond.

Making this cost money. Capcom "doesn't have" money. Not matching their selling expectations could mean they don't have enough resources to put in another cinematic story mode without cutting other things (DLC characters for example).

With the many holes left in it, the story can be pretty much wrap since it was intended to connect SF4 and SF3.

I'm just speculating.

Why do people imply this is going to be the only cinematic story mode stuff we're going to get? This one had a subtitle too so it's easy to add some more. Capcom had a change of plans with all the backlash they got for having no single player stuff. This one was even longer than what they first promised going from 1-2 to 3-4 hours.
They can just call the next one "illuminati" and we're golden.

I enjoyed it, though it has its fair share of faults. Urien and Alex just felt like fanservice (probably because their "adventure hasn't begun" yet), Necalli was pointless, Ryu mastering the SnH and gaining the power of nothingness offscreen was lame as hell, and Nash's final moments were lame. As for the stuff I liked, all the Dolls having slight variations of Cammy's moveset, Juli having her Alpha 3 moveset, and all of them being fightable was pretty cool (though the black doll chucking spears is hilariously awful). I liked the cameos of Abel, Sean, Decapre, and Gill. I also liked the suprisingly large amount of focus on my man Rashid. Sucks he didn't get his happy ending.

Although flawed, this is a really great first try at having a cinematic story in Capcom fighting games. If MvC4 ever gets made, I really hope they can step this kind of thing up. That or we get a 2nd story mode when the season 2 comes out (I doubt it).

Also Ibuki's english voice fucking sucks.

Guilty Gear Xrd Story Mode > Street Fighter V Story Mode > Mortal Kombat X Story Mode

Eh, switch SFV and Mortal Kombat X and you have my opinion right there. SFV's story mode is still good though.

Any mention of Sagat at all??

If the season 2 predictions are anything close to reality I might as well sell my arcade stick after beating the story mode this weekend or just hope capcom just rereleaes super Street fighter 2 turbo HD remix for the next gen consoles.

Nope, still in the mountains.

Idk how that works as a proper comparison but whatever.

SFV just glanced over too much shit at one time. MKX had this problem too but it was easier to hide.

People probably just gravitate towards SF more so in their minds its better for some odd reason.

MK9's is better than both though.

SFV wasn't a reboot though, so it assumed you knew alot of the lore going in.

Making something like this obviously takes a lot of time and resources, and is definitely not easy. I have no idea how people come to that conclusion. If the game didn't meet expectations and is just surviving on the hardcore crowd, and if this doesn't cause a huge spike in sales with a sustained tail, another cinematic story would most likely be one of the first sacrifices made.

I have some gripes, but all in all I was very satisfied with the story and enjoyed it a lot. The endings of the series's major plot threads (Satsui no Hadou, the Dolls' brainwashing, Shadaloo in general) felt kinda abrupt and unsatisfying, but all that stuff has been central to the series plot for so long, I'm not really sure how they could've wrapped it all up in such a short story mode without feeling underwhelming. Also I'm not quite sure why they couldn't just give Rashid's friend a name lol

But yeah, seeing the characters interact was great, felt like all the characters got a good chance to shine and look cool (other than Alex, poor guy, but as a Karin main I was treated very well lol), and I was pleasantly surprised by the unique special moves for the story NPCs and all the cameo characters who got models. Hoping this isn't the last time we get something like this for Street Fighter.

I know i should have preloaded yeah... but i had to work all day today, so i couldn't have played it anyway. Turned on the PS4 this afternoon, saw the patch, rest moded that shit. Went out for a small get together... back home all excited to play and nope. Greyed out General Story mode and another 8gb patch that i had to manually 'purchase' before my PS4 even knew about it.

I'll tell you what i think of it tomorrow, assuming this is the last one... I think i'll spend my evening watching KOFXIV footage instead!

Just finished story so I'm going to give full impressions. Full on spoilers and a massive post ahead.

Overall, I'm mixed, but mostly pleased. I was extremely hyped for the story expansion, but for some reason I feel that it didn't deliver somehow, especially towards the end. First off, I'm very impressed with Capcom and their attention to detail when it came to the lore of the previous games (especially SF3) and the amount of NPC fights. Good job on that regard. My complaints and feelings towards some things, however, are my own and they don't normally follow other people's opinions, so be warned that I'm probably going to hate what you loved and vice versa. Anyway, let's move on.

First off, I felt like nearly everyone played a decent role in this. The only people I think I got shafted were Birdie, Mika, Laura (although they had some cool scenes) and Alex. If you know me, then you'll be aware that I'm very fond of Alex. I was very disappointed with how they dealt with him in this. For someone who is meant to be the protagonist and the main adversary of the next chronological game's (SF3) boss, Alex did absolutely fuck all in this. All I remember him doing was being in a wrestling ring and then giving Dhalsim his statue thing. Very disappointing and somewhat continues the trend of Alex being shafted to secondary roles post-SF3.

On the topic of roles, Necalli was probably the biggest disappointment in all of this, next to Alex. For being pumped up so much prior to the cinematic story releasing, he did nothing. I still don't know what his deal was or what his purpose even being there was. When he turned up after being gone for like two acts I had completely forgotten he was even in the game. There was no explanation for his V-Trigger ability, he wasn't related to the Illuminati and he had nothing to do with the Satsui no Hado. All in all, a complete waste imo.

I was pretty shocked to realise half way through this that Rashid is meant to be the new protagonist of SFV (just like how Alex was for 3 and Abel for 4). Prior to the cinematic story mode (CSM) I wasn't very keen on Rashid due to his personality shown in the character stories, and that continued into story mode. He improved a little towards the end with his fight with F.A.N.G, but I think this is the first SF protagonist I don't like.

Nash's role was a big shock for me, seeing as I considered Nash the protagonist for this game prior to CSM, his role was very minimal compared to what I expected it to be. There seemed to be a lot of build up around Nash and his resurrection, but it turns out that Nash wasn't even resurrected. Judging by the comments by Urien and his story mode, Nash appears to be Eleven's, the predecessor to Twelve, body reformed to appear like Nash. (I could be wrong on this, so if anyone could clarify that would be great). This was a great swerve and one I wasn't expecting, but at the expense of Nash in SFV being kinda ruined for me in a weird way I'm not sure if it was necessary. Hopefully with more clarification I might change in this, but yeah Nash kinda fell by the way-side, like a lot of characters.

I'm not the biggest fan of the dolls, so they're appearances and NPC fights did nothing for me. I'm glad they're free of Bison's control. Hopefully it means it's the end for them in SF. I'm not really fond of 12 Cammy clones and rather they didn't appear again. I'm expecting Decapre eventually though as DLC for SFV.

I feel like they're could have been more cameos though. Apart from one or two that caught me by surprise (Mel was one), all the NPC cameos were very safe and predicable given the characters we knew were going to be in the game. The cameos that were there were great though. Sean's was great and his interaction with Laura was one of the better parts of the story. I'm also a lot more fond of his design, although I'd prefer the one in the character bios. Like I said earlier, Dolls did nothing for me. Abel was a great surprise and I didn't expect him to be in it as much as he was. Gill was great. Really happy the he was in it, even for a second.

Urien and Juri feel great to play. Even though they're not finished, I can tell I'm going to like them. Their roles in the story were good, but I feel like Urien should have been in it a bit more. Juri was in the game a lot more than I thought she was going to be.

I really, really hope Bison and Shadaloo are done for good. I'm sick of Shadaloo and I really want either Gill to be the boss in SF6 or someone new. Bison and Shadaloo are stale now. They've played their part more than enough and I can't honestly see what more they can do. If Bison is back in SF6 then I'm going to pretty pissed off. He should be done now. No need to beat a dead horse. Bison (and F.A.N.G hopefully) being killed at the end as well as Vega and Balrog seemingly ditching and running away is a good sign, that Shadaloo is done. It's time to move on.

The epilogue was very flat for me. I'm not sure if Capcom have left things open for another CSM with Season 2. One one hand, several characters (mainly those who actually are in SF3) kind of feel like they're journey to SF3 is expalained now, but on the other it feels like several characters (mainly those not in SF3) are not given a good enough explanation for their future absence. They don't explain why Cammy, Guile, Juri etc., people who you'd think could have been played a role in SF3's story, aren't there or even mentioned. It's up to this game to explain those absences and I feel that they didn't. That's a major let-down for me, as Capcom have been saying that this ties the gap between SF4 and SF3, and those absences are a major question still left unanswered and leaves that gap with a lot of holes. If a second CSM is done, then those absences can be explained. However, I feel that this is the only CSM for now. As of this moment, I feel this is a very weak bridge between the two games.

I liked quite a lot of what was on show here. The interactions between some characters was cool and I enjoyed seeing previous relationships develop further. I'd probably give the story an 8/10. It wasn't terrible by any means, and Capcom did a pretty good job overall. I enjoyed playing the CSM and I'll probably play it again. There were some minor problems that bugged a lore nerd like me, but it's easy to ignore that and just enjoy this story for what it is. The only thing I would have changed is have more links to SF3, but that can easily be rectified by future DLC characters. For Season 2 DLC, my predictions would probably be; Abel, C.Viper, Sakura, Oro, Decapre, Sagat, Azam and Ed.

Too much loading, some characters looked akward like Cammy or Mika with there outfits and the lack of Alex is dommageable. However I liked how Rashid and Karin were basically the main characters of this story for a large part of this mode and how Juri was badass. And Zangief is cool too.

Forgot I could take screens, missed some great moments but at least I could screen this

Just finished it. A bit better than I expected too be honest. Capcom could have really half assed this in a lot of ways and they didn't. You can tell a lot of effort went into this (or at least, more than you expect from them). Was decently entertained throughout. Only a bit disappointed that there wasn't a grand final boss or anything. That and Necalli was absolutely pointless
6 or 7/10. Way better than MKX's story mode. That had me extremely bored.

O_o? story is locked out?

You have to buy it off Steam and then click install on the DLC tab in Steam to download 8gigs.

Yes, it's royally stupid it wasn't included in the patch for you to be able to turn on/off those 8 gigs as needed.

Perfect timing hiding Ken's face.

Literally every line is a copy+paste anime cliche.

Super skimpy on the budget.

It's garbage, basically, but the goofiness can be enjoyable.
