Wasn't feeling this as much as the previous two seasons. Hopefully it picks up now that we have two targets for them to go after.

Some of the explosions looked a little bad, almost like they were cg, but for the most part I thought the special effects were quite good.
That one car explosion looked like CGI, but I thought the effects looked good otherwise. The locations they come up with for the show look fantastic - particularly the expansive outdoor scenes like the opening with the car driving down the dusty road.
I can't believe Stonebridges' wife was killed! That was fucking crazy. Stonebridge had no choice but to shoot the postal trainee guy. The brother/sniper killing Stonebridges' wife was a crazy way to react. Seems like crazy runs in their family.
Yeah, that was nuts. It's a very Strike-Backian solution to get Stonebridge back on the team. I mentioned during that scene that I expected to see the bother lurking behind a tree in that park giving Stonebridge the evil eye, but it turns out that he skipped a few steps and went straight for the sniper rifle. This show is crazy sometimes.
Ahhh. I was trying to remember who he was. He favors the guy who plays Moriarty on Sherlock.
I was watching with a friend who jokingly said they should've cast Finch from American Pie instead. That's a much better call with Moriarity as something of a look alike.

It's sort of three targets: Hanson (the guy who sniped Stonebridge's wife), Axmali (the cleric with the detonators), and Knox (Tywin Lannister).

I missed season 2. should I just jump in to season 3 or is there an over arching story that carried over to 3

Season 2 and 3 have the same characters, but there aren't really any storylines that are carried over. (outside of a few backstory type things) If you've just seen season 1 (with Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln) then you might be a little confused as to why there are new characters, but you shouldn't really have any trouble jumping in.

Does she? She seems extremely awkward in the action scenes to me. Hopefully they keep her in the Crib most of the time.

I mean, I wasn't like "OMG this character is so awesome! I can't wait to see more of her!!!", but I thought she did a pretty good job. I liked when she took out the bazooka and blew up the car with the mounted machine gun. That was pretty darn awesome.

I agree. The on location shooting in South Africa is a great asset for the show. It looks exotic and expensive, but it's apparently really cheap to film there. Plus, it can effectively double for various other countries, which is great.

Heh. I think I actually saw him give Stonebridge the evil eye as he was putting his sniper rife away. o_.

Figure out a way to watch season 2.

You can get by without...but you really need to watch the relationship between the two main characters develop.

Now that 24 is off TV, and Spartacus has killed off a lot of my favorite characters this show is by far my favorite action adventure tv series.

Love it.

As long as most of the episodes focus on Scott and Michael in the field, I think this season could even outdo last.

Scott and Michael are now Strike Back. Not the new commander trying to be a bad ass.

Yeah the bazooka shot was definitely cool. I think its just the way she hold a gun that bothers me. Just didn't look right. But I'll get used to it I'm sure.

Ah, that's who it was! I was trying to place it the whole episode.

Yeah it took me most of the episode to place him.

The way Stonebridge holds his gun really bothers me. I'm sure it's accurate, as I know the actors study the mannerisms of real life soldiers, but it looks so awkward.

New episode tonight:
Episode 3

Scott and Stonebridge track down a radical Islamic cleric in order to recover the nuclear devices, but are sidetracked by a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) air strike and hostile locals.

My mom has been bugging me to watch this show. I'm going to have to finally check it out.

Holy shit @ the cinematography in those desert scenes. Fucking gorgeous.

I really liked tonight's episode. The first half was pretty good, but the second half blew it out of the water. Great action, great setting. The wrestling scene was great fun, and Laëtitia Eïdo's character was awesome. I can't wait for next week's episode.

Yup.

Indeed. The ring of fire wrestling was hilarious - I couldn't stop laughing.

I'm sloooowly catching up and I love the show, but man, it is inconsistent as fuck. Right now I'm about to start with the second episode of, uh, Season 1.5 and I can't help but notice the enormous change in tone and production values. To make it short:

  • Sex is abundant and gratuitous, almost Spartacus-like. There was next to none in the first part of the season. It's cheesy.
  • Production values are... much better? The scenes in India actually felt natural. The last two episodes of the previous half season were AWFUL in that regard, what with black and white people with ludicrous fake beards trying to pass for Afghans. Ugh.
  • New, terrible, extremely long opening credits.
  • Wait, is this thing going to change characters every few episodes? I can't believe they offed John Porter just like that. The fuck?

Anyway, I'm enjoying the ride and I'm actually surprised by the fact that the Brits can make such a competent action show. Strike Back certainly blows The Unit out of the water.

wait, rhona mitra is in this? omg, does she have sex scenes? i've seen the promos for this airing on showtime the past few years but decided not to watch because of my already busy tv schedule. but damn if she gets naked in this i might have to watch.

Right now I'm about to start with the second episode of, uh, Season 1.5

What now? There are 3 seasons:

1: The Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln, British only season which consists of 6 episodes
2: The British/US co production with Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton which consists of 10 episodes
3: The current season, which is the second season with Winchester and Stapleton, but the third overall, also 10 episodes

I think you're on episode 2 of season 2.

  • Wait, is this thing going to change characters every few episodes? I can't believe they offed John Porter just like that. The fuck?

I believe Richard Armitage was originally signed on for season 2, but had to drop out due to other commitments, namely his role in The Hobbit.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the ride and I'm actually surprised by the fact that the Brits can make such a competent action show.

:O

Apparently Episode 4 is up on MaxGo for those of you that can watch there. Just please remember to spoiler tag discussion before it airs on Friday evening. Thanks.

Thanks for recommending this series. I just started with season 2 on bluray. Bestbuy has it for $32. Not bad. This show is the unit if it was on HBO. I like it!

I started watching the first season of this (with the one British main character) and it was pretty boring, and dropped it. I gave the second season (technically the first season of this version???) a chance, and I'm glad I did. The show is really good and fun now.

The American dude they added (played by an Aussie?) is great, and reminds me of John McClane.

New episode tonight!
Episode 4

Scott and Stonebridge are holed up in an Algerian farmhouse with a nomad leader and wounded courier while preparing for an Al Qaeda attack.
Just a reminder that this episode is already up on MaxGo in case you'd like to watch early.

I have to say that I found the action sequence that occurred directly after the opening credits to be very poorly executed. There were far too many quick cuts, generally occurring every 2 seconds, and I wasn't always sure where Scott and Stonebridge were in relation to the building and Makunda, who was stationed behind the car. It was a little disorienting and headache inducing.

Thankfully, the battle at the end of the episode was much better.

All in all I thought it was a good episode; satisfying conclusion to the arc, and I'm happy to see that Makunda wasn't killed. I wish she was part of the main cast. <3 Also, I'm excited to see what brought the sniper guy to Cape Town. (Though he's probably just hunting down Stonebridge or something)

I loved the "What happens now? Remember the Alamo?" line.

Don't know why but it made me smile. Love this show and i love the format they do where the show is like 5 80-90 minute movies with an overall story. Every 2 episodes is it's own little movie and i love it.

I'm a bit annoyed with the fact that there's at least 1 or 2 CGI explosions per episode now. Don't remember these from the previous season. Also feel like the show has become a little less violent. Guys stepping on mines used to look quite different in Project Dawn.

Yeah that's been bugging me as well. I feel the production values aren't as consistent and the action scenes haven't been nearly as satisfying as those last season. Still good of course, but i guess i'm expecting more because of the fantastic quality level Project Dawn set. Frank Spotnitz was showrunner last season, right? Who took over this year?

He's definitely the reason to watch this show. Stonebridge is a complete bore in comparison and his character only works for me when he's interacting with Scott.
