noob question about tv refresh rates. if a tv has a 240 hz refresh rate, does that mean if I hook up my computer ( with a gpu that that is capable of running a game at 120 fps) then will I actually get a visible 120 fps on my tv screen


( I really really doubt the answer is yes because i have never seen it mentioned but maybe today is my lucky day and the answer will be yes)

The answer, as far as I'm aware, is yes. The 120Hz signal from your PC will have every frame doubled to match the 240Hz output of the TV. This is exactly why high refresh rate monitors are falling into favor (120, 144, 240); they're compatible with more refresh rates than 60Hz monitors without adding jitter.

I asked this in the thread about him running too, basically it boils down to line in the constitution requiring a a "natural born citizen" can be defined as someone born to a parent who is an American citizen who has lived in the country for some specific number of years.
 
anyone got a metal credit card? I have one and there are quite a few places that would have trouble reading that card. is that normal? anyway to fix it?

Serious answer - from working in retail, metal cards were never an issue. It was the flat cards where the numbers were just printed on and not embossed, which wouldn't do anything if you needed to take an imprint of them. But, who knows.
 
Snapchat users, can you point me to some good accounts I can follow? Aside from the 3 friends of mine that use it, I have no idea who to follow. I'm 25 but this app is making me feel like I'm already falling behind on technology/social media because I don't really get it...

lol I wish I have one of those, but then again that might not be such a good thing with my occasional impulse buying fits...

in any case I don't know if that's just my card or not but I've had it for about a year now and there had been a few stores that won't be able to take this card both in US and Japan now, so I dont know what's up. Visa company said they can issue me a new one but that will be a new number and kind of a hassle so I think I'll just bare with it for now.
 
I got a new chair for my computer desk, and got a wireless kb/mouse recently, and I want to be able to use them from my chair away from my desk on my new 32" monitor. The keyboard shouldn't be an issue since I can just have it in my lap, but what can I do about the mouse? I know there are mouse pads/rests that you can attach to the arm of a desk chair but is there anything that would work on my chair with armrests like this?

Have you considered just getting a rolling stand that you can put you kb/mouse on? When not using it for your PC you can use it for meals, beverages, etc.





My stupid question: I'm using mobile GAF, is there a notification if you get a pm or do I just have to check my messages from time to time?
 
iTunes question: I have 100+ episode of How Did This Get Made saved and recently for some reason iTunes split the podcast feed into three podcasts in my podcast list. Any idea how to get it to recognize all the episodes as just one again?

NVM - I'll just delete it and redownload
 
So I went to donate blood today and I ended up deferred because of high blood pressure. I had a physical last year where the doctor told me I had moderately high blood pressure, but apart from that, everything else was within acceptable parameters. High enough to try to make lifestyle changes to rectify, but low enough that medication wasn't warranted. I occasionally use one of those grocery store monitors, and I'm usually at around 140-150ish over 80-90ish.

At the donation today, I somehow shot up to 148/112 the first reading, and then 150/116 the second reading. What could cause my diastolic pressure to just abruptly jump to such an outrageously high level? I was a bit embarrassed from having made a bit of a traffic error on the way in to the hotel hosting the drive (there has been road work going on for the past several years which never seems to progress, so the hotel's entrance was obscured - I missed it and ended up entering an exit, with at least a couple people giving me reproachful stares) so might that have caused it?

Fixed up a G&T tonight. The T had an expiration date printed on it (Jan 2014 lol). Why? It's water and bubbles and quinine. Does quinine rot? I thought it was some kinda rock. Tasted the same as tonic always tastes, and I'm not dead yet so. Seems some bullshit.
 
Anyone know if you can use Gamestop store credit on giftcards? Wanted to get an iTunes card, but I'm not sure if they allow you to use store credit for that

If you want to save money just buy bulk pasta and other bulk food that you can eat to still give you energy, mostly carbs and protein are key. Its most important to stay hydrated though (Surviving without water is a very short time) and if possible drink juices that will supplement the lack of vitamins and minerals in your diet.

Dude, no. Save money in ways other than starving yourself. It is possible to survive up to three weeks without eating, but that varies depending on your body weight. Just do as suggested, and bulk-buy pasta. You need carbs.
 
Does season 6 of Supernatural get better near its end? I'm on episode 10 and the
soulless Sammy story is annoying with yet another plot revovling around a demon who has dibs on someone's soul
. Admittedly, following season 5 is a tough act to follow. I'm asking this here as I want to avoid any possible spoilers that I might see in the show's OT.
 
I don't remember what each season is about, that might say something xD But I also enjoyed it very much and if you're a fan, I believe it's worth watching it, just to see what happens.

Just turned my PS4 (UK) on and sitting there is the Destiny icon, I do not own Destiny and haven't downloaded the demo. When I hover over it it says download demo or buy. Has anyone else got this happening?

edit: FFS just noticed this isn't the stupid gaming question thread, at least it is related to idiocy so I'm in the correct place by that metric.
 
Can anyone tell me what the number next to the channels in my Youtube Subscription list is? At first I thought they represented how many new videos the channel had put up since you last checked their page, but there are frequently numbers next to channels with no updates.

But, people purchasing alcohol at bars are one of the bigger sources of tips.
And, there's a line on your charge receipt to add in a tip.

There will be two lines on your receipt. First one is tip. So say your order amount is 10. You write 1 dollar on the top line. Then you write 11 on the second line for total paid. Then you sign your name at the bottom.
 
I have my email through Verizon, and some weeks back they started timing me out during the day for inactivity, even though I've checked the box that says "keep me signed in", and so I have to sign back in with my password multiple times throughout the day. (This is on my home PC.) Is there any way to stop this from happening? I do use Noscript with Firefox, but I've given permission to these Verizon webpages to run scripts, yet it doesn't make any difference.

I'm not sure I follow you...are you talking about somehow using my current Verizon email through Outlook (if that's even possible), or just changing to a new email provider and address? Because I wouldn't want to do the latter.

Thanks for your replies. Verizon does have a support page describing how to setup their email through Outlook (16 steps), but I also just found a Mozilla page that describes the logout problem I am having. Verizon is aware of the problem and back on 3/12 they replied to another customer, "Due to technical issues with the Verizon server "keep me signed in" feature is not working now. Our team is well aware of it. They have been working on it round the clock to fix the issue. It will be resolved very soon."

So I think I'll sit tight for a while longer and see if it gets fixed on Verizon's end. Thanks again.
 
Android question about alarm and music apps:

I play music while taking naps on my commute to work. The alarms seem to work by maxing the media volume temporarily, which causes my music to blast my ears instead of the actual alarm tone. Is there an alarm app that silences all other audio or has its own volume meter?

Never had this problem on my old iPhone.
 
Are there any worthwhile adblockers on ios or tricks for not loading pictures in safari? I tried one adblock but it was only free for a few days or something and I don't want to pay for something I don't know for sure works. This is primarily to cut down on data usage so my 3g amount don't go up as fast :)
 
For the past two years or so I've been letting my mom use my ipad. In that time she's accumulated a ton of bookmarks. Yesterday she got her own ipad - is there a quick/easy way to export all the links from my ipad's Safari to her new ipad?

I'm trying to use my PayPal account to pay for something on PSN, but I'm getting the error "Sorry - your last action could not be completed" I've been able to use PayPal just fine for months. Anyone know what the issue might be?

Also, I was trying to add a credit card to my PSN account and get an error there as well. "Please enter a valid credit card number." Which is ridiculous, because I used the card to buy something on Steam the day before, so the card works fine. What could the issue be?
