Stupid question, I tried a pair of shoes from a female friend and they where really comfy. Problem is that they aren't made anymore and I bought a pair of similar shoes. They are comfortable but not as much as the other one that she owns. I wonder if I can ask her if I can buy them or is that a big no no?

I think you should just be up front and tell her you are willing to pay to smell her feet.

If Im mainly a gamer on the go and don't care about high end graphics is it better to wait for the Nintendo Switch or am I still better off investing in a gaming laptop? Why?

Switch, but that depends if you are willing to lug around a briefcase with a laptop, mouse and big honking power cable for it and you really can't play it everywhere like Switch. But you can play most PC games on a laptop

I think it also depends what 3rd party games will be ported over to the Switch. If it gets most AAA games I would have had to play on PC then I will be laughing :) I really really hope it gets proper 3rd party support.

Dumb question: Why do people over talk someone in casual conversation? Not necessarily a debate but telling a story then raises their voice to attempt to gain ground of control. Is it the desire to get their point across, lack of respect for the other person,or something they never grew out of at a younger age(selfish)

The general question still is why do people over talk one another?

How useful is Linkedin, really, for finding work? Is there anything in particular one should do to improve ones chances? My page is up to date etc.

Depending on location it can be. A lot of recruiters are on it and they're like sharks who smell blood if you indicate you're looking.

Picture and a shit ton of thoses skills are always good.

It's as good a tool as any I guess. All depends how you use it. There is a LinkedIn jobs app aswell that's handy.

I'm in Sweden, could work just about anywhere if it gave me a job in a field I dream of. Thing is, how do you get recruiters to know you're indicating you're looking for work? Just writing it at the top of my profile doesn't seem to generate any visits to my (free) profile. I do have profile picture, and even a background picture, and up-to-date skills and projects/current work etc.

I'm trying to set up direct deposit to my student checking account. I've got the routing number, account number, etc no problem, but I can't figure out what the difference is between the duplicate entries here:

I don't know what relevance the letters have, and googling has been useless. Any guesses which one I should pick?

You need to ask your payroll department. Those look like internal codes.

Honestly about Sweden I've no clue. In Ireland I've a request a day at this rate from recruiters. I've little interest in moving and have nowhere indicated I want to go.

Made just add in a few recruiters and ask them directly. Worst they'll say is "sorry can't help"

In the US, if you get a cell phone plan from companies like Verizon or AT&T, you will pay, for example, $50 for unlimited talk and text and 3 gigs of data. But you will also be charged a $20 "line fee" every month. So your monthly bill will actually be $70, not $50. However, both Verizon and AT&T have "prepaid plans" where you get the same unlimited talk and text and the same, or usually more, data for the same $50 except that there is no line fee. So the monthly bill is actually only $50 and not $70. What gives? And why doesn't everyone buy a prepaid plan instead of the other, more expensive, plan?

Pre-paid is usually better for single lines but post-paid gives a lot more data for multiple users. For example, postpaid smartphone line fee is $20, plus a 12gb (+2gb/line) data plan is $80/month. So with 4 lines each person will pay $20+$20 for 5gb of data. Where as a pre-paid plan would be $45/month for 4gb.

That being said there is still is a big shift towards pre-paid going on in the US. But family plans and grandfathered unlimited plans from Tmobile and Sprint still keep postpaid popular.

I haven't been able to keep up with what's going on in Syria / Aleppo and it's hard to find articles going over everything. What exactly has happened in the last week or two that has changed so much?

You can see the latest developments at syria.liveuamap.com.

• The rebels more or less lost Aleppo.
• ISIS recaptured Palmyra.
• Turkey/FSA is attacking Al-Bab.
• SDF, with support from the US coalition, is gaining ground near Raqqah.

Those are for people who want their check divided up. Like, put the first $100 into checking account A, and the rest into checking account B. There's usually a limit of like 3 divisions.

Post paid use to include the phone payments. But now their making the phone payment separate. With prepaid you have to bring your own phone. Use to be 4-600$ for a good new phone but nowadays you can buy a great phone for 150-200$. I've been prepaid for like 6 years cause I buy used phones :)

Since we're on the topic of phones- I'd like to get a new phone for my mom, but I think I'd rather check out 3rd party resources (e.g. ebay, craigslist etc) instead of Amazon or Verizon directly. What do I look for to know if a phone is compatible with Verizon's network specifically?

Can the thing inside bike tires explode but not rupture the whole tire?

I'm asking because I heard a small but distinctive boom while going to work yesterday, right after veering away from some shattered glass on the ground. And all of a sudden, my front tire is basically half empty, I can easily push the tire into the ground just by pressing my hands on the handles. But I don't have a flat tire more than 30 hours later, and I've used the bike more than once since. My tires are usually rock solid hard, maybe the air pressure burst or something?

I'm trying to add a phone number to my Steam account for verification. It wants to send me an SMS, but I never receive it on my phone, even after clicking re-send. Is there anything I can do?

Did you put a "1" in front of your number, that might make it work.

Does anyone here have experience getting stuff shipped from the US?

I want to order this Monoprice monitor tablet thingie, it's cheaper to order it from their website than amazon.ca.

Monoprice warehouse is based in California, but for a fee they have no problem shiping their stuff to Canada. This thing costs $450 US and at checkout, after choosing a shipping method, DHL costs another 43 bucks, so the Total is $493 US dollars.

next to "tax" it says $0.00, I called Monoprice in Cali. the Customer service lady had no clue about tax on shipments to Ontario, called DHL, they couldn't help me either.

My question is, would I get taxed by Canadian customs after this thing arrives? Am I gonna get smacked by a bill by the customs? I want to buy it right now at $493US but I am too afraid that isn't the final price and I would have to pay customs fees and taxes as well.

Anyone experience with buying stuff from States and getting shipped here via DHL or USpost, can chime in please, thanks!

The general question still is why do people over talk one another?

I'm not linguist but I,very had a conversation about this with my friend who has studied language as an academic.

There's actually a term called "speaker-turn" or turn-talking (according to wiki https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn-taking) in which can vary place to place between people due to an array of reasons. What you're referring to is "overlap"; apparently this is also most evident among "working class" people and even more so with women from working class backgrounds. Not all overlap is intentionally or actually harmful - if you can imagine coming from a background where you occupy a space with 6 to 10 other people regularly, turn talking becomes cumbersome. It becomes impractical for 10 people to each finish their sentence (or point) one at a time to allow the next speaker to be "selected" - being that the person talking currently directly chooses a single person to continue the conversation out of a room of 10 people who are within it. For many people who grew up with this (like myself) it's not always considered rude for someone to overlap in a conversation; just a method to continue the flow of the conversation as people come up with ideas they want to express before the conversation turns to a new point. Apparently overlapping conversations can be quite complex and dynamic in their function and often takes time to develop between different people before the way in which it works is established (informally I believe through behaviour).

Some people do it to be assholes for sure, but it can often just be a result of clashing conversation styles depending where this person comes from. Just my two cents! Isn't necessarily what it is but it may put a little perspective in there for you.

So my friend and I both bought and completed Pokemon Trading card game on the 3DS. However we now want to build decks and play against each other. Nintendo does not allow this on two 3DS :(

What is the best way to do this on the computer? We would also need completed save files with all the cards. Is this possible? Thanks for any info you can give or PM me :)

Question about credit cards

So... I bought and item online using PayPal which charged my credit card. My question is, I need to return the product and get a refund. But I'm asking, where does my refund go to? Does it appear in my PayPal balance or will it go back to my credit card???

I'm curious how easy it is for someone to find out my identity. Is it possible based on GAF alone?
Are you using the same online name elsewhere? Or around the time of you registering on gaf in 2012? Mods can see your ip adress as well, so country and city is easily found at least afaik. If someone were to find your email and hack that, they'll probably find you real quickly, depends on where you draw the line.

Okay, so it mainly depends on whether people found out about my email and hack it?

Well that's one way at least, I am by no means well-versed in these things. You do have over 5000 posts here on gaf, maybe they could social engineer something from those posts with any "luck". Afaik, social engineering is one of the most common ways of getting someone's private stuff. I, as a complete amateur, could probably find less than nothing based on your gaf name but who knows.

I can't remember the name of the unemployment thread, anyone know which thread I mean? It's like a community thing, though perhaps not IN the community section per se.
