I'm surprised no one has commented on this album yet as it features some very high profile names from Morr Music and german music scene as well as Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie/Postal Service fame. The album doesn't officially come out in the US until the 30th, but has been available in Europe since the 2nd.
Let me first say I'm a fan of Styrofoam. His sense of digital music in the context of whatever he is working on is amazing. I especially loved his work on American Analog Set's Updates EP.
Styrofoam aka Arne van Petegem sings a majority of the songs. He has a very nice, subtle voice that lays well over the tracks. The featured guest list is Markus Acher of The Notwist/Lai Puna, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie/Postal Service, Valerie Trebeljahr of Lali Puna, Alias of Anticon, Andrew Kenny (love this guy!) of American Analog Set, Bent Van Looy of Das Pop and Miki of Pitchtuner.
The first track starts out with a bang. Styrofoam, Alias and Valerie all sing on this track. Styrofoam sings the main part of the song, Alias raps in the middle of the song and Valerie sings the chorus. It's a nice blend of musical talent that comes together ontop of lush electronics and a warm guitar.
Couches in Alleys is the Ben Gibbard track. It sounds very much like something from Postal Service, but a bit more evolved. I like the sounds of Postal Service, but Styrofoam has a much greater grasp on making things sound current and fresh. This is an expected track, but it's nice to hear some new electronic stuff with Ben's vocals. This should be the main single off Nothing's Lost.
Front To Back features Andrew Kenny. I love this track, Andrew Kenny sings the majority of the song in a very set subtle tone, but then the track takes an unexpected turn and his vocals become more melodic and groovy. Much more free spirited than his American Analog Set songs.
I'm still listening to the majority of the album, but these tracks stuck out most. Thanks again for wonderful music, Morrmusic!
