I'd like to upgrade the RAM in my laptop, but I want to make sure I'm doing it in the optimal way. Are there any particular brands or places to buy from that those of you who know what you're doing recommend?

Also, it's my understanding that if the new RAM's speed is higher than what's currently in there, that doesn't matter -- only if it's slower is it noteworthy. Is this true?

No matter what, you take a gamble since most newer laptops have one of the DIMMs integrated into the motherboard.

The RAM has to be of the same spec.

That site helps out a lot in finding what you need, but you can usually find the same brand much cheaper from newegg.com and other places.
