Pacific Rim
Rebuild is utter shit compared to this. Was surprised how much was common with Eva, this is basically the live action Eva film we never wanted but should of. Oh and I was also wrong the the mechs. They look pretty cool after all especially the Japanese one lol.
It wasn't a film that used 3D effects a lot so I felt a bit ripped when I went to the 3D showcase but it must been amazing in those massive Imax screens.
if what the off-topic general community says is true, I bet that whole list is full of amazing shows because they just don't make them like they used to.
It might be pretty obvious, but the children are by far the worst part of the show so far. So annoying. Though the end of this episode did try and redeem them somewhat. Hopefully it also means they more or less vanish in later episodes.
Here is what I remember about Sailor Moon:
1.FIGHTING EVIL BY MOONLIGHT
2. Jupiter > All
3. Sometimes people were obviously homosexual, but had their genders changed or relationships changed so that American audiences wouldn't be mortified. It was still obvious.
4. Tuxedo Mask had like, six alternate identities that were exactly the same as TM but Sailor Moon was so dumb she could never figure it out.
5. Stupid Chibi Sailor Moon.
6. SHE IS THE ONE, SAILOR MOON!
I thought the point of Godannar's "plot" was to be stereotypical in that sense. Like it was just giant monsters fighting giant robots as a background setting to the relationship exploration going on in the show. Also, if piloting a giant robot = having sex, there are a few unfortunate things in that show.
Aside from the incest, the whole Ken and bratty girl thing is kinda iffy in that light. She may have seen him as a parental substitute, but she was defs his dead girlfriend.

Considering that, by adapting Nausicaa, Miyazaki was adapting his own unfinished work the whole case of Nausicaa is rather unusual in the world of manga to anime adaptations.
That aside, calling Nausicaa a mediocre adaptation is ridiculous. It's an extremely well made and beautiful movie. While the manga is certainly lengthier and more complicated that doesn't necessarily make it better and I actually prefer the length and pace of the story as told by the movie.
This reminds me, I need to go through the rest of Ghibli's catalog at some point. Of the remaining three that I'm interested in, which is considered the best(blah blah blah opinions and all that garbage):
You should just watch all of them, really. These are just all time classics that everyone should see.
I know some people in the thread haven't seen all the Ghibli movies (and to be fair, there are some weaker ones) I would strongly recommend, nay, insist that everyone watch:
The Castle of Cagliostro (Not produced by Studio Ghibli) Nausicaa (Not produced by Studio Ghibli) Castle in the Sky Grave of the Fireflies My Neighbor Totoro Kiki's Delivery Service Only Yesterday Porco Rosso Pom Poko Whisper of the Heart Princess Mononoke Spirited Away
These are all essential films produced by some of the most talented people in anime.
You people are making it very hard for me to not watch Eureka Seven. I'll have to take it on after I finish School Days. I don't know what to expect from it, but it's gonna be hard to top Gurren Lagann in my book.

There is a reliance on humor in many scenes that just falls completely flat on its face, and the punchline always feels the same. During its more serious moments things are too simplistic and plainly stated for anything to be interesting. I really just feel nothing when I watch this show. There's no comedy. There's no drama. It lacks a connection between characters that would underline genuine relationships forming. It's hard to feel like there's much creative effort or talent here.
