Zetsuen no Tempest 08

Hmm I'm growing less and less fond of the storytelling, writing and pacing. This episode there's like a 10min standoff which could've been condensed to a minute or two if the characters just said their dialog already.

A lot of the 'twists' are rather predictable, certainly nothing that feels clever in any way. Like of course something weird is going on with Hakaze and Mahiro's sister. There's so much downtime that you can't help but think about all kinds of possibilities anyways.

I still can't help to care about anyone but Aika who'll surely live to see the day again. I mean when you're dealing with this kind of a magic system (that includes healing as well!) they can explain just about everything that happens easily.

At some time in this episode Hario says s.th. along the lines of "I don't care about this world" once again. And yeh, well me neither. Those mage trees, mages and military make me yawn.

As of now I'm only really looking forward to more character interaction, especially if Aika and Hakaze appear in person eventually? Who knows, some relationship drama sounds more interesting than their world changing plotline.

Also, what's up with your literature (Hamlet) references? Like really? It's cringe worthy at times.

The twist that I think is particularly clever doesn't happen till the second half of the show. The early twists are easily predictable. Especially since you're thinking about them the whole time. And especially when it concerns Hakaze.

Also get it right. They're mostly "The Tempest" references. Not Hamlet. Although I think they make one or two Hamlet/Macbeth references.

And yes, this particular series of episodes has a long stand-off that I wasn't too fond of either.

No, I think they vocally reference Hamlet most of the time. The Tempest is more on the level of what actually happens, they don't talk much about the Tempest, if my memory doesn't deceive me..
i dunno at this point

the only person good enough for miyuki is tatsuya, but thats just weird.

are they legit blood relative brother and sister?
The Mahouka Wiki says
yes. They are in fact blood related. Same mother, same father.

Glasslip 4

I feel like we are finally turning a corner now. First two episodes were pretty but was lacking any real depth or info about anything. Episode 3 was more interesting and didn't have weird cuts. And now at episode 4 we have lift off. Relationships are progressing. Jokes are a little funnier now that we know the dynamics of these characters. Things are actually happening now.

It's still beautifully animated and has wonderful music. Really looking forward to how the rest of this season plays out.

And the OP is still one of the best this season.

Brah you must be joking right, best two openings this season right here.

Who do you think won the election, eh? Not even the student president can stop this as much as she tries. Especially when Mizuho does heroic things.

um maybe cause like the story is supposed to pull from Shakespeare's, "The Tempest". Its kinda like how there are tons of adaptations of Romeo and Juliet. Some are really close to the source, some are only loosely based on the source. Curious if you ever seen any versions of The Tempest. BTW, it was also one of the better animes to come out that year.

It's been a while since I've seen it (since it was airing) but I believe Aika is reading The Tempest every time there's a flashback.

To be fair, The Tempest isn't Shakespeare's most well known work.

Ah ok, maybe my memory deceived me.

Captain Earth 17

Decent episode.
Double battle was pretty neat. Looks like they're going to activate all the Kiltgangs at once next, which I've been waiting for. Want to see how they could deal with that scenario.

But is the next episode really Our Heroes being attacked by humans now? Thought this was far too late in the story for any of that.
Considering it's Bones, I'm not surprised that they're doing the human enemy threat late in the show, since it seems to be popular with anti-alien mecha stuff nowadays.

SAO II 4
So Kirito was GaryStu-ing everything except guns. The aiming mechanics seem really dumb especially with that spread. It seems the game is very defense oriented seeing how the targets know where your bullets are going and you only have an idea.

For some reason the scene with Miyuki and Tatsuya in bed in Mahouka gave me Deja Vu. I feel like I have seen it before, especially with the line mentioning the Generator.

Since I'll have to admit I haven't read either yet—shame on me—I couldn't actual tell from the quotes, but yes, they do vocally reference Hamlet at least once. Having a short look at what's Tempest about and considering that it's the anime's title as well, yup, seems that the show draws some inspiration from that (Island and all).

Mahouka - 17

Nice episode ....
But as everyone saw this was more of a build-up for the main dish next week

Tatsuya Vs The chinese gang

This is gonna be some cool
one sided slaughter
next week

But Nova Prospekt is an awesome place...

Nova was such a slowdown in that game, ive gotta tough it out one day and get this done. ive tried 3/4 times to do it.

Since Half-Life 2 is actually more of a linear game like a lot of the more recent shooters, Nova Prospekt is actually one of my favorite levels because of the different ways which you can approach things.

In the second area with the auto-guns you can just set them up right in their lockers and stand in the empty one yourself, haha. That or you can take the desks and cabinets and such from the office on the upper floor before you drop down and create a couple barriers. The guys now have to try and get you from the upper floor since they can't get past.

One time for fun I actually carried all the auto-guns all the way through the level. Instead of having three at the last firefight like you normally should, I had eight, haha.

Gotta say though, that classical themed soundtrack from Zetsuen no Tempest is real good. Especially now in episode 9. where they finally talk about Shakespeare's pieces in more detail, it fits so nicely.

Yeah. They do reference Hamlet every now and then. It's another Shakespeare work so it would make sense. It's just they reference The Tempest way more for...... obvious reasons.

I liked BoT music. It was nice.

Aldnoah Zero Episode 4

Really not liking the music in the fight scenes. I mean the music is great but the vocals are awful. Rewatching episode 3, I now understand what some people were complaining about.

Why didnt Inaho and the gang tell the crew about the weak points of the enemy? Then again, each of these Knights have a customized Kataphrakt so one guys weakness doesnt mean much for the rest. I wish the adult soldiers were at least a bit more thoughtful about their attacks like Inaho is.

Good progression. I'm guessing now that Slaine will
join the battle but use this as a way to get to the Princess and maybe kill some Knights in the process. Maybe he will get his hands on the Aldnoah.Zero?

Another solid episode. Yuki Nee <3 The ending theme is all sorts of awesome as well.

Random. The little Chariot in me found it amusing.

Apparently nobody on the first google page has counted Shakespeare quotes. Very well, I could watch new anime, but I also could count Shakespeare quotes in Zetsuen no Tempest. Luckily they are easy to pick out from the regular talk. I watched the episodes in 2x and with skipping, so I could easily missed something. If you remember anything that's missing, please tell me.

Episode 01
01:07 (Hamlet)
Yoshino: The time is out of joint.
Aika: O, curse spite
Yoshino: The time is out of joint. O, curse spite. That ever I was born to set it right!

21:38 (Hamlet)
Yoshino: The time is out of ...
Mahiro: The time is out of joint.

22:08 (Hamlet)
Mahiro: The time is out of joint. O, curse spite. That ever I was born to set it right!

Episode 02
21:31 (Hamlet)
Mahiro: O anger, turn to heat, dry up my brains (original: O, heat, dry up my brains)
This is followed by some other sentences that sound shakespearish, but aren't actually in hat form in any of his works

Episode 03

Episode 04

Episode 05
8:39
This is not a quote, but another important point that returns once in a while is Aika explains the structure of dramas, and more specific tragedies and comedies. The show plays a while with the open thought whether it's story will turn out a tragedy or a comedy.
Aika: Everything happens for a reason. The daily tragedies and misfortunes are all meaningful events, leading towards an ideal conclusion. With his in mind, there probably isn't really any meaningless misfortune.

9:31 (Hamlet)
Aika: There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dream of in your philosophy

Episode 06
None, but we have Junichirou holding a skull [link to picture]. Which could be chance, but since the show is so close to Shakespeare I want at least mention it.

That one third of the show for now, I will continue tomorrow, pretty cure is waiting on me. So far no verbal mention of The Tempest, only Hamlet.

Also: can someone who know more about flowers than me identify these flowers?

edit: Mike identified the flowers as daffodils who are mentioned in The Winter's Tale.

The Winter's Tale said:
When daffodils begin to peer,
With heigh! the doxy over the dale,
Why, then comes in the sweet o' the year;
For the red blood reigns in the winter's pale.

Oh, let me guess. It
was Mizuho's mother who was the oneesama.

Anyway... A funny quick talking ghost girl joins the story, and Mizuho sleeps with some girls. And since people in the show is just as perverted as AnimeGAF they think sleeping means something else and hilarity ensues.

Well fuck. Guess you guys were right. It's been a while. Could've sworn she was quoting The Tempest or reading it or something.

I concede. It's been a while.

The weirdest thing for me in this scene is the fact that I'm a black dude who is behind the YuuYuu avatar. It's weird.
NO. YOU'RE YUUYUU! You're whitish japanese!

Oh trust me I love fun and poppy openings. They always get me excited and pumped for the episode I am about to watch. (Particularly love Toradora and Baka & Test openings)

But I LOVE openings with a degree of melancholy to them. I am weird like that.

For reference my favorite OP's are....

FMA

Clannad After Story

AnoHana
ef - a tale of memories

Bokurano

Eden of the East

Noucome is a good show, very funny I thought.
The Chariot agrees. Although everyone in this show appears to have skin cancer.
Well fuck. Guess you guys were right. It's been a while. Could've sworn she was quoting The Tempest or reading it or something.

I concede. It's been a while.
Don't give up yet. It could very well be, that they reference The Tempest later on more. I can remember at least on time Aika quoted it and it's weird nobody brought it up yet, despite the obvious situation. It would be quite interesting if the references of both parts of the show appear in the "wrong" part. But we'll see.

Zetsuen no Tempest 09-10

Holy shit, the 10min stand-off from the second half of episode 8 actually continues throughout the entirety of 9 and 10. I would like to say that that's okay because the mind games are entertaining but it's just not that clever to keep me interested over such a long duration.

The first one was nice.

They all have a melancholy to them which is my type of thing so I liked all the songs but the last one was weird.

NO. YOU'RE YUUYUU! You're whitish japanese!

ef - a tale of memories

Bokurano

Eden of the East.

Only just started watching A Tale of Memories so I am sure I will get familiar with that OP.

I think everyone so far has very unique choices for their favorite OP's.

I have a question for you. Which anime version of Full Metal Alchemist did you like better? The original or brotherhood.

I think I've said this before but I like the beginning of the original much more than brotherhood. However I think brotherhood ends better.

I like them both equally. It's really hard to say which one I like more. I've certainly watched the original more than brotherhood. I also feel the original was better paced.

Aw... can't do my rant quite yet, if ever. As much of a tease that is, I'm keeping quiet on it if/until I get my chance.

Anyway, episode was pretty nice beyond the Gary Stu moments of Kirito. Gun porn and all was fun.
