Durarara X2 Ten episode 9 - so awesome, just when you think you had Izaya all figured out in the previous episode. The flashback was really good, hope I see more of it but unlikely to happen I guess.

This anime sometimes. Makes me laugh super hard.

Gintama is the gift that keeps giving.

Even though I'm not huge on the Fuyo/Android arc, it still manages to be enjoyable.

One Piece 707

Toei, you fuck.

You're doing that Bleach thing. You're constantly switching between fights so none of them advance at all. We were in a flashback for like 3, 4 episodes? I don't need to be reacquainted with who the cast is fighting.

The freaking flashback had the characters who you're telling us about!

Don't think Toei is to blame for that. One Piece does that all the time, even in the manga.

You know, i always wondered what would happen if another studio tried to make an anime similar in style to something like shaft.

This is my answer.

And holy shit i loved it!

tumblr_mkn9tbE8jG1rvzdzso1_500.gif

I mean, it has a few problems (mostly in that the art feels aged even though its from 2012 (though this may be Crunchyroll's fault since their 1080p option for this one felt significantly less that that) and the ending does a slight asspull at the very last minute). I also could have used a lil less fanservice (though it didn't ruin the show or even get annoying. It's even used as an actually plot point regarding character psychology) But otherwise its damn great.

Amazing use of cuts and camera usage (probably the best POV cam i've seen in an anime bare none). This really feels like if Shaft made something and was reigned in to make it artistic but not crazy.

It really reminded me of bakemonogatari, gosick and ef a tail of memories (though the last one makes sense since its the same director).

I'll debate whether or not to buy this on blu-ray though.
Can anyone tell me if the quality on the blu-ray is actually proper 1080p and not the weird blurriness that Crunchy has?

Bleh, was hoping Funimation was gonna do Ranpo Kittan A Game of Laplace after Show By Rock ended, but looks like that's not happening.
Now I gotta catch up on that...

It's not like he's dead. They sent him out on a mission that they might very well show some of.

I remember this from the OVA series, they just had him depart because he was sick of court life and wanted to be free to spread around STDs. My point is this episode is actually something Gieve needs because he is just kind of there being at best quasi-comic relief and this episode gave him not only something to do but actual chracter growth. Hell, they even advanced his relationship with Farangis in a meaningful fashion that grew her character as well.

Best origin story I never knew I wanted. Holy shit.

One of the best, if not the best, episodes.
I probbaly should watch that at some point

Wait for the sequel that I'm sure is just around the nearest the corner and then watch both.

Rurouni Kenshin: Trust&Betrayal

Ehhh I was largely unimpressed by what I saw. Part of the problem may be that given the title, the prequel nature of the entire endeavour and my (minuscule but still) knowledge of the Rurouni Kenshin proper, the story is predictable and ends exactly where you expected it to. As such, even though the second half of these ova's are most bereft of the pacing issues that bothered me in the initial two episodes, the entire romance angle fell flat for me. Weirdly enough, despite having less time, dialogue and interactions with each other, Jin-Roh's relationship between the two leads felt more believable and grounded.

Trust&Betrayal was released in the OVA format and it certainly looks the part. There's plenty of pretty backgrounds, some striking use of colours and the animation for the fights is really good. If I were to complain, I would note that the fights could stand from being a bit longer even at the price of reducing the number of them. Most of them were short and one-sided slaughters and the two of the more impressive and even duels take place during the epilogue, with little in terms of stakes and remain unresolved. ( I dunno what was the point of these two Shinsegumi characters but I imagine they show up in the og series ? They serve completely no purpose in T&B's narrative.)

Overall; forgettable story but good execution, the weird, rushed pace in the first half excepted.

Edit:Oh right, the entire, 6 month long, elaborate plan of how to deal with Kenshin was so silly it hurt.

Working S3 ep.9
Yamada on point trying to ship those couples, lol. Another pretty flat episode in regards to progression, but at least all 4 of them can admit it to themselves now. With 3 episodes left, let's see if they can finally close the deal with those 4.

Just random stuff to to toss out there but here goes: Saitou features prominently in the TV series as the events of this sort of drive his rivalry with Kenshin. Okita doesn't figure in at all as he dies of TB or some such shortly after these events. As far as the fights, I love them as they're sort of the antithesis to the shounen stuff that permeates the rest of the franchise. Decided in an instant as opposed to the overlong drawn out fights you'll see if you check out the TV series. In fact, everyone's comparatively powered down in this to something somewhat realistic, the lone exception being Kenshin's master who retains that sort of "god amongst men" skill level from the source material as seen by how he effortlessly sliced up the bandits at the beginning.

Oh nice a happy Lenka.

Pretty powerful episode and very emotional. The insert song at the time of their running made me tear up a bit. Gorgeous song.

Lindow was so epic with his kick and slashes. I thought hed die but I guess hes the strongest around

That'll help a little. What other plot lines are left to fill? Something for Shorty, Manager or Shouta maybe?

Most of the next episode seems to be about Takanashi's mom going by the preview. So, that leaves 3 episodes for the conclusion of the relationships, alongside random comedic scenes.

Have to say, after finish watching this show, I go around the web to see what other people impression of this show and see how they analyze it. Also, after let it sink it a bit, I will have to say this show might become one of my favourite show I have watch in my collection. They're other great show I have watch as of now but this show take it one step further in my opinion. I guess I will break it down in my small impression about this show.

The story of Wolf Rain takes place in a world where it used to have a very rich society in history and culture. Unfortunately, for some reason, something have happened and this rich society is slowly crumble down to the point where the survivor in this world is just trying to stay alive. They're two type of class in this world, the noble (think of them as the wealthy elite) and the commoner (people who is trying to stay alive in this dark bleak word). They don't push too much about what is happening to the world till quarter way of the show. This help the show quite a bit as it focus more into the characters you will be following in the show. You're following a main character name Kiba, who is a wolf but can change into a human when needed to in disguise. His main mission in the entire show was to find paradise which the wolf can go to and live in peace. Along the way, he got pick up by three other wolf which he meet at the beginning of the show (Hige, Toboe, & Tsume). All have different personality but somehow join together as a pack of wolf to find this new place of paradise. Along the way, they will be secondary characters in the show who will be following range from the wolf hunter who you meet in the 1st episode who hunt down wolf, a female scientist who is interested in the wolf story, a mysterious girl who have the power to show the wolf the paradise, to a nobleman who want to get to paradise as a way to help his lover and his dark past.

For the story, they don't really push the detail on the audience or try to explain it. It make the audience to try to look into the finer detail of the back-story. This back story of why wolves are considered by the nobles are divine. Why the nobles feel like they're different from the common people. Also, what just happened 200 years ago which cause the world from the most technological to just barely struggle to stay alive. The show also cross references religious idea and mythologies to reveal a incorporated theme. The wolves in the story have to face different type of trials like despair, distrust, confusion, and the false paradise which could offer joy for their individuality. While at the same time, the human have to struggle with their own type of trials like denial, preferring comfort than facing the truth of what will happened to them, and many more. In the way, the writer of Wolf Rain did something that you don't see too often in most anime show. It make you think as you watch the show without trying to force all the philosophy and region stuff into your mouth.

One of the bigger strength from Wolf Rain is the character development from almost all the main and secondary characters in this show. At the beginning when you're introduce the four main wolf, they have a very limited personalities on them but just enough so you have an idea of what they are. For Kiba, he have a strong personalities while Hige have a playful tone and know how to function in the human society. For Toboe, a shy who like to help up everyone while Tsume, have a rough self reliant tone and don't give a rat of anyone. As you process during the show, they development start to get complex and detail. You start to understand they past life and see how they personalities change to the point where all start to work together as a pack. Even in trouble time where mistrust is starting to seep into the wolf pack, all still work together as a team and will protect each other. You also feel it during the show which make you wish those pack of wolf will eventually found the paradise they always wanted for.
This isn't stop at the main four characters, the secondary characters also have a much detail and complex personalities. From the wolf hunter who hunt down wolf who eventually accept them, to the female scientist who manage to rekindle the love of her divorce husband as both have change during the show as they realize what will happened to the world. All of this will get very emotional as you start watch the last four episodes as all the characters you follow during the show will have a tragic end even though you wish all of them have a good ending. But this tragic ending and how strong the character development between all the major and secondary character make the ending of the show even more powerful for the audience when they watch it that it will stay in you after you finish watching the show.

The music soundtrack from this show might be one of the best soundtrack I have heard for a long while. Not surprising as it was composed by Yoko Kanno. I guess most fans here know her now as she make quite a bit good music but this show might be one of her best work. Almost all the music used in this show are beautiful and make the emotional scene very powerful when need to be while at the same time, never overwhelms the story when used during the show. Another good things from this show soundtrack is how nice to listening the music outside of the anime. The orchestration score is great to listen to and (in my opinion) sound like a soundtrack from a movie as it doesn't have those anime soundtrack feel you hear from other anime show. Not that it's a bad thing but you can play this at work and most people don't mind the music at all.

Something I don't talk about much in my impression is the dubbing. Most of the time, I watch my anime in Japanese dub as this is how it was shown in Japan. Once a while I will try to rewatch certain show in English dub and well...it always come in mix result like Spice and Wolf have a decent Eng dub while Love Hina should only watch in Japanese dub. For Wolf Rain, the English dub might be one of the best dub I have listen to after Spice and Wolf and got to say, it might be the best way to watch this show. Literally, every voice actors who voices all the main and secondary characters and even characters who are there for five minutes in the show goes one step beyond what is needed when playing their roles.

Overall, I would say this. Wolf Rain is one of the most rewarding show I have watch for a while. Not only it's entrainment to watch but it's have quite a few strong quality trait which push the show better. This strength and how mature the story is make me want to recommend this show to anyone who didn't watch it yet. Also, do try to go in with a clean slate without any expectation as this will help you enjoy the show even more like I did when watching it.

It's been a long, long time since I watched Eva and I've had my eye on the Rebuild series. What are you guys' opinions on the movies?

The first film is essentially the first few episodes of the original series in terms of plot, just with some additional CG and a few other small changes. Things start deviating from the original story in the second film, but I still enjoyed it - even if it does have some terrible engrish bits. Cool visuals and setpieces all around. I haven't seen the third film, but the widespread dislike of it and the fact that the final film still isn't out yet tells me that it's perhaps for the best.

"Become one with us, or we'll dispose of you."

Can't wait to see Tsubasa try to bullshit her way out of this one.
"That's a difficult thing! I don't understand difficult things, you are wrong and we are right! leave us alone!"

That's how.

Shimoneta episode 9: Anna's voice actor deserves an award holy shit. Best anime character of 2015 by far. The ominous music that plays everytime she gets horny completely cracks me up.

Wasn't expecting THAT reveal haha

Damn, what an ending to this families tale. Yasaburo never did get to actually see Kasei to the end, and I guess nothing was settled there with his frog brother either. However, Benten came through snd was great in the end. I'm so glad I stuck with this show to end end since it was a really well written story through the end. I just wish they explained some of the lore better at the beginning.

Theyre pretty definitive.

They might work as a companion to the show when it's all said and done. For now, it's Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

The second movie is somewhat entertaining, the first is pointless, and the third is just bad. None of them give you the real Eva experience.

The first film is essentially the first few episodes of the original series in terms of plot, just with some additional CG and a few other small changes. Pretty mixed opinions hmm. I'll keep that in mind. Fan Expo is next week and I'm making a mental list of stuff that I may want to buy. Thanks guys.

Was ok, but i really think the episode would be much much bether if they changed the music or completely drop it in the middle section of this episode, it was kinda distracting.

Don't think Toei is to blame for that. One Piece does that all the time, even in the manga.

I'm not sure if they did this all the time, but this is certainly the case with Dressrosa Arc. And yeah, that's not Toei's fault.

I doubt it was done to this degree in the manga. Like there's a five minute scene where a character flat out spells out the the names of who the straw hats are fighting.

All this in a show which doesn't really start till around 6 minutes in, due to an opening + show recap.

Also there's this.

Ok, what's up with all the fanservice in thus episode? With what the girls found with Megenu's key, it explains everything about the school and why it is so equipped. There is a pandemic going on, but not the same thing the school was made to handle. Looks like more fanservice next week... Not sure why they are taking the show in that direction, but it sells to the otaku, so...

TBH the show never felt like it wasn't heading in this direction. The whole point is the juxtaposition of this overly-"cute" schoolgirl slice-of-life nonsense with the zombie apocalypse background. I'd find it more strange if they DIDN'T have a swimsuit episode.

(I don't think I like School-Live! but I keep watching it anyway...)

Nice follow-up to last weeks episodes madness. Flashback was more or less predictable, but worked well enough to give some insight into Alisas character.
They did well in showing how powerless a God Eater really is without their weapon, but yeah, the bit with the music in the middle definitely did not manage to give off the vibe of danger it should have :/
The part at the end where
Lindow came to the rescue
also felt a bit lackluster, but all in all it was another good episode.

Powa Powa Puririn has always been an odd group. They started off as the joke unit compared to Soleil and Tristar, even having to drag out a previously minor character who had never interacted with Otome or Sakura before. Just as an excuse to get Otome and Sakura into Star Anis. They didn't really do much (and even now they mostly do variety shows?), yet they worked well together. Then the other two groups collapsed, and Puririn somehow became the most relevant group. Now they're currently Starlight's second biggest group (I presume Soleil has passed them), have two Starlight Queens, a major actress, and general fame propelling them. All due to Otome's whims. And it happened without them getting a single proper performance.

Of course I don't believe Shion is going to make it. We're a hundred episodes past the point she should've gotten somewhere. At least ninjas are cool. And now she's doing actual ninja stuff. Idols should become Japan's new secret agents. Seriously, she's the best Puririn member. And I actually like their group the most since they act more like a unit group than a few friends who decided to make a group like Soleil (if that makes sense). Man, they're trolling hard with getting Shion here. Directly speaking to the audience that knows her time is overdue.
Wait, what? They're... they're actually doing it. Shion's getting a proper performance. FUCKING FINALLY! Powa Powa Puririn finally gets to shine. It's so clear that that half the dialogue at the end was referring to her not getting a performance until now. Oh yeah, Dream is a thing. Do people care about Dream? How the mighty have fallen. Seira used to be number 3. Now she's Otome's lackey. I guess this means Shion has gotten it better than Kaede this season. Yurika too sort of. Those two and Mizuki haven't gotten a performance this season. Surprise Tristar reappearance? Eh, probably not enough time for that.

It just feels odd; even the doggie bath scenes. Next week we get a class trip to the beach? How does that work? Should be interesting....

Damn, that latest Gangsta. episode went in.

Erica and Mikhail are no joke, but Ginger with her S/5 is even too fast for them. I wonder if they're Twilights, too. They don't have tags, so they could be Hunters, whatever those are, but Erica's brother is a Twilight. There's so much going on.

Our MC Twilight is out of his league, it seems, even if he can overdose.

Regarding Rokka, another tense episode. I'm so glad Chamo got defeated. That was some great planning by Adlet and fighting by Hans. Adlet just can't catch a break, though. Everything he tries to hypothesize just gets shot down.

Mora and the Princess are both very suspicious, still. I'm less suspicious of Goldov, now.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 20-26 [S1 END] [Watchbet]

That's certainly a way to end a season. The series was a fun watch. It had a lot of good moments. Especially towards the end.

I don't have a lot of criticisms or praises to sing the show. I just turned my brain off when watching and for the most part it was entertaining.

Although them
bringing back up Dio's coffin
at the end of the episode was kind of a surprise and made me go "No way!"

Now onto Stardust Crusaders.

This show is just strange with how it has paced itself. I find that all the teen power of the week episodes are mostly useless due to how little they've factored in the story so far. Besides the idol that got recruited the rest have been forgotten. I would've rather had more character development for Nao and Yu and his little sister due to how important she is to the story. It's crazy that the biggest development in the story is coming just now after so much time wasted with playing baseball and other useless things. Interested to see how it all ends. Kinda feel bad for Yu considering how much Nao likes his big brother. Getting some NTR vibes tbh. Don't want to spoil what happens but it was an interesting way to do it. We'll see how it all ends but it probably won't be a happy end.
