Yeah. Speaking generally, I don't think I've seen any anime that deals with what it is to be a working adult as well as Shirobako. That's not a common subject in anime, of course, but even those that do touch on it, such as Space Brothers, are often primarily interested in other kinds of drama.

Plus how agonizingly uncertain things are when you are a young adult trying to start a career..

Just when I thought Masashi Hamauzu wasn't going to do another TV anime after Binbougami ga, I FIND OUT HE'S WORKING ON CLASSICALOID

FUCK YEAH

Though it says there that he's the musical director. I wonder how much composition and arrangement he'll be doing (if any), seeing as the music staff for that show seems to be plenty as of right now.
The different in-universe composers seem to have different people doing their music too, so it'll be cool to see how the collaboration of all those people come about.

In the Japanese press release Hamauzu is credited for music while the others are music producers. That probably means Hamauzu is composing all the BGM and leads the musical vision, while the individual producers provide their style of music needed to represent the characters. Like Kanno's work on Apollon?

This season is shit at the moment. :(

... We're one week in...
Can we not speak doom and gloom on the season's quality just yet? I mean we have more food wars episodes to look forward to, Relife ended up being quite good, Mob Psycho & 91 days still haven't aired. Seriously, Wait until everything airs, and even then wait 2-3 weeks until saying the season is "shit". Its needless negativity (and bs) to say the season sucks based on the first episodes of a few series that aired. Don't be "that" person.

On a more positive note, I finally added in my new avatar, after some annoying setbacks with deleted drafts and constant crashing when trying to save to png. Relief!

That's along the lines of what I was guessing it'd end up being. It sure is quite the peculiar project with regards to how many people are involved on the musical front, so i'm definitely interested in seeing how it turns out. I was already sold based on the concept announced over a year ago, but with Hamauzu on board i'm definitely leaning towards being actively excited for it.

And yeah, Kanno+Apollon is a really good analogue.

Days - Ep. 1
I really don't get is the relationship between Jin and Tsukushi.
Jin asks this random, weakly looking guy if he wants to play soccer because... he is the main character?
Tsukushi then becomes very passionate to the point of harming him self because ... they want to tell an underdog story, I guess.

I'm usually a fan of this kind of story, but this just feels forced.

Looks like the Madogatari exhibit will be returing to Tokyo in September:

Guess I'll be checking it out :p

Edit:
Looks like they're showing off a new video as well?

Or maybe it's just another update to that Madoka concept movie thing :p

Wow. I'm still confused but it was so furi kuri, I liked it. Crazy series. Not sure if it's a post-Evangelion thing, but Naota was so whiny and obsessive with Harukο, at least it appears he moved on at the end of the series. Not sure if I'd call him a terrible protagonist, as that's probably the point of his existence, but I certainly hate him. It's fortunate that Mamimi also moved on with her life. Best girl with the best episode, though I liked the episode of that Ninamori girl a lot too. I actually liked the first 3 episodes much more than the later three.

So... the new series better be good? :p

pony canyon's usa branch has to compete with everyone else to acquire rights with little to no upper hand. be glad if it makes it over at all.

I thought this depended on whether Pony Canyon JP owned the international streaming/home video rights or not, similar to Aniplex. From what I've read, Aniplex USA also has to submit a bid to Aniplex JP, but these days it can't be anything more than a formality given how Aniplex JP is approaching the international market. Does Pony Canyon USA have to seriously compete with other license companies over Pony Canyon JP licenses, or is it more Pony Canyon JP ignoring other bids in an attempt to make more profit themselves? Or have I misread the relationship between Pony Canyon USA and JP entirely, with USA being more independent and competing with other companies over shows that Pony Canyon JP may or may not have the international rights to?

On an unrelated note, I don't know if anyone posted about it here, but Gkids has the theatrical (and presumably home video as well) rights to Miss Hokusai. It's a fantastic little film that's definitely worth watching, despite the occasional odd choice of music.

Bad. Writing is just absolutely terrible as little effort is put in to establishing who these characters are and the fight at the end is hilariously contrived.

It's a shame too as the mecha action is some of the best I've seen in awhile. It's really gorgeously animated and there's a certain heft to the robots' movements.

Why can't they put these visuals into something where the writing isn't turgid? I hate the anime industry so much.

If the writing isn't turgid, can it even be anime?

Shin Mazinger Z (A.K.A Mazinger Edition Z) is on Crunchyroll, and I would be absolutely thrilled if there was a group watch of that.

I'd be up for this one. I also haven't seen it but it's on my list. I swear Code Geass was streaming like a month ago. Sucks.

Alright, we can do these two next. A little robot goodness won't be bad after a little fantasy in Moribito. We'll start Moribito Tuesday and go from there.

Awww do Mazinger first! :(

There's so much fantasy stuff out there already, let's have a good classic exciting robot action show first for a change. I'm sure it's aesthetic will attract a lot of new viewers too.

Kind of a strange episode since it didn't really achieve much aside from reiterating that Soma's dad is a better cook than him.

I really hope the whole 'Erina knows Soma's dad' thing gets put out in the open sooner rather than later, it's the most interesting thing about her character.
