Glitter Force DokiDoki 14-15
Mess. I'm not the biggest fan of the original, but rushing it does not help at all. Everything is so crammed together that Maya and Regina are the only ones with any development, with a bit of Mackenzie on the side. Everyone else loses what precious screen-time they could muster. Nothing can be done to remedy the issue that Heart is really the only one that matters. Whoever she's interested is who is important. She walks in, gets her girlfriends, and saves the day because she's just the best. The plot is holding itself together, but not very well. Bad music weakens any impact there could be. King Baddie somehow turned into a joke (Do you want a cookie!) The comedy is alright sometimes, but it doesn't work when it's supposed to be serious.
What worked for Smile isn't going to work for DokiDoki. It's not godawful. Overall it's still an okay watch if you want magical girls fighting evil. But the flaws of both the original and the dub are very apparent. Last season cut 8 episodes, and that was bad, but not too harmful in an episodic season. Cutting even more episodes with more plot to cover? What a bright idea. I don't know how these contracts are made, but Toei really shouldn't be letting so much be lost. The main hope is that most of the cut episodes were handled in the first half, so the more convoluted second half can breathe. If that only has 15 episodes too? Well maybe it will be an entertaining disaster.
