I know Fate/Zero was originally a (light) novel when it came out; I was actually referring to Fate/Zero: The Adventure, which was a little-known "what-if" VN for iOS that came out in 2013. That said, upon further analysis, that VN was mostly made up of screenshots of the anime with a few original scenes for the new content they added. My point in bringing it up (even if it didn't really help make this point) was more to illustrate that the art design of Fuyuki was already well established by the time animated adaptations came about, which undeniably helped both ufotable and even Deen.Zero was a set of prose novels (not sure if it was a light-novel imprint - I seem to remember it might have initially been event-sales only) rather than a Visual Novel, though arguably it benefits from the setting work established in F/SN. Then again, with the way that Type-Moon historically presented their games, I'm not sure it's that big of an advantage beyond not having an editor force Nasu to cull unnecessary excess.
Apocrypha being a LN means it's primarily text, and as such while it might spend some time lending atmosphere to a scene, I doubt the prose provides much detail as to how the environments look, especially for such non-descript locations as a forest or a rocky plain. That said, I'm less forgiving of this because earlier this season Castlevania did such a fantastic job of portraying an apocolyptic Transylvania through its grotesquely gorgeous art design, where as Apocrypha feels lacking outside of a few key locations (like Darnic's castle, Shirou's church, or Clock Tower).
