I believe this is the first real serious arc of Gintama, and I still found it hilarious. Particularly some of the Elizabeth scenes.
While the series does a good job of having an emotional beat every now and then, it is good to see that it can deliver as well on a longer plot line. The highlight was the conversation with Gin and Katsura, with Zura telling GIn to never change when they are fighting together to get off the ship. I also enjoyed Tae making the read and leaving the note knowing that GIn will go. I suppose we will be seeing this Takasugi guy pop up for a while.
Also probably got the best animation of the series so far with one of the Kagura fight sequences.

I watched this episode a couple of days ago but even after that I'm still not sure how I feel about this conclusion. It did it's job, all the emotional threads were concluded and it's story followed the rules till the end but didn't give me a satisfying conclusion.
Altair being swayed by a copy of her creator was convenient and the show doesn't hide away from this fact, then the audience's reaction to hoping for Altair to save Setsuna seems just as convenient, or rather their desire in hoping for Altair to have a happy ending. At this point after watching her kill one of the "heroes" directly and causing the other to die indirectly, I'd imagine a few would be turned off by her attempting some form of redemption (Especially fans of the series she helped kill off!) Personally for me it felt undeserved that her character gets to enjoy wandering through eternity with the person she cares most for after trying to destroy the world and killing 3 of the cast members too. I realise the show itself tries to seperate itself from the concept of good and evil with a line in the middle of the dialogue this episode but it felt too neat for a character I didn't feel attached to get more then she deserved.
Still they're all bystanders in Sato's and Setsuna's story which revolves around creators, what they leave behind, what they have to face to try and bring something to the world and what they want to share with everyone. For that the show neatly tied it up it's main narrative.
Even after digesting and collecting my thoughts for this episode, it still feels off. I know there's one more episode left but with the creators watching their creations die in front of them and watching Altair get away with it has left a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps that's the point though, eventually your creation you've watched gets crushed by the rampent demands of the audience as the new hot thing comes into town, walks all over your hard work, gets to enjoy more fame and appreciation then your random blonde knight got and then she ends up being a jobber whilst the more popular IP gets A star billing. A critique on crossover events perhaps? In anycase I'll wait for the final episode to see how I feel about this series because right now it hurt my overall enjoyment and I can't quite put it all down in words why.

Allow me to interrupt the stream of joke posts with some actual anime impressions that no one will read, aka, the heart and soul of this here animegaf.
Welcome to the Ballroom 10
When the show doesn't depict Sengoku as an all around asshole with very troublesome boundary issues it uses him as a tool for dumping heaps upon heaps of information about all the different dances and how much they vary from one another but the problem with that approach is that we don't ever get to actually SEE said variation given that the show always recycles the same set of stills and poses for every single dance along with extreme close ups of the characters faces and stills of the audience going "oooh" and "aaah" as if we were privy to the same thing they are watching, which we are not. Sure it might throw a second or two of actual animation in between the stills of supposed dancers supposedly dancing supposedly different styles of dance but for the most part they all look completely indistinguishable from one another and contrary to what JoJo has taught us, merely posing is simply not enough. Especially so in a show about dancing.
On a positive note this episode finally provided some insight into Shizuku's headspace and line of thinking. Something which was sorely needed, oh I don't know, about three or four episodes ago.

I have to say, Welcome to the Ballroom did not turn out at all like I was hoping considering the pedigree of the director and the surface similarity to Haikyuu.

Thing I always found weird about Hunter x Hunter is how kids like Gon and Killua are given the type of agency you'd expect adults to have, no questions ask. The Chimera Ant arc kind of straddles the line asking if that's a good thing, but it never really goes all the way

I am almost caught up with Food Wars -- on episode 11 of season 2. I know a third season is coming soon but wiki says there are 4 OVA episodes. It seems like crunchyroll et al don't seem to have these things. Do anime companies even bother to release them in the US, generally? Are fansubs the only way to watch them?
hopefully after the superior sports series Baby Steps gets a third season.
though it would be nice if baby steps had even a quarter of the quality of animation Haikyuu had lol.
if I recall right the ovas don't matter. but I am not 100% sure about that.
to be fair the third season is going to suck hard (well depending on episode count as if it gets a 50 or so episode order the second half won't be that bad) so it's not a big deal if you want to pretend the series ends after season 2 anyways lol.

the Autumn Election Finalist meeting the Elite 10.
The first three are totally fanservice though so they're totally skippable, unless you know, you're down for the fanservice.

They skipped the opening credits in 135 so it's being treated like the end of the cour/arc but then I know the arc ends at 136.

its still the best written part of the whole series
I remember thinking it's the kind of thing normally shoved into a character backstory (usually the villain) but hxh chooses to have it develop concurrently to the main plot. So the central role given to that relationship creates the throughline that guides the development of events and the way entire characters play out later on in the arc. Very well realized, and the emotional climax is -naturally- the best one in the manga

was the true main character of the Chimera Ant arc all along. It makes the big fight in those two episodes quite interesting once you take all of his character development leading up to it in.

I'll talk about this later but it strikes me as something that few writers would even attempt, for numerous reasons. It's really testing the empathy of the audience as well as their patience.
