I watched a bit of it back then to see what the hubbub was about, and it was alright, but it couldn't keep my interest. Me being a band guy in school might've made me more open I guess.
But soon after is when I found out that K-on marked the beginning of the moe kawaii uguu era of anime, and that's when I stopped watching modern anime until Shingeki and HxH.

Shingeki was so important to me because it was the first (mainstream) anime in almost a decade that didn't have fanservice or moe. People can complain about it all they want, but I love it.

I like the show and have no problem with general anime creepiness, but from everything I've seen of K-ONGAF it's nothing but people creeping on the characters and talking about how cute they are. Or it's off-topic community stuff but all the gifs and jokes are K-ON related.
