I played through Katawa once (I think I did each route), I got told to play it because people kept making a fuss about feels and stuff like that, it was a little better written than I expected but it wasn't something to get emotional about.

I wanted an Akira route, she seemed great. Otherwise I think I liked the blind girl's route the best.

When I first played, I played by making decisions I myself would make and stayed as true as possible, I ended up with the running girl somehow.

There's clearly meaning and metaphor behind it, but as with all things there will be plenty of people who don't try to get it. My initial interpretation is pretty much what chaobreaker listed, so I'm glad others saw it the same way. There are a lot of pretty obvious signs, like the anime posters and the figure collection, the deformation and warping of the traditional anime popgirl.

I didn't know if it was straight pornography or simply a headfirst dive into reclusive and self-destructive Otaku-dom.

Exactly, the point I was making was that I've seen comments of it involving 'boob lasers XD' or referring to it as lewd. They'll just look at the dancing girls and think it's some fanservice music video without thinking about the actual context and symbolism.

Some people like to watch it but still have a sense they're impacting the story. You can't really do that in movies yet.

They're not usually my kind of game, but Asura's Wrath is in that vein to some extent and I love that game.

asura's wrath at least has you mirror the action 1 to 1, and you know when it's going to become a qte because of the burst mechanic

the hypest is when asura does anything with 6 arms and there's 6 left stick and right stick icons
