No Recommendation / Blank

Two of Nintendo's finest, and one of its most interesting, come together in a compilation that isn't worthy of their greatness.

8 / 10
Despite its minimal trimmings, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a worthwhile collection of some of the plumber's most memorable adventures

Unscored
If anything, Super Mario 3D All-Stars shows the breadth of what a 3D Mario game can be, and much of that is truly excellent.

8.5 / 10.0
Super Mario 3D All-Stars, as barebones as it might be as a compilation, is a great way to experience (or re-experience) these games all over again. It was a joy running through all three of them even if they weren't strictly upgraded. That goes double for Mario Galaxy, as this is going to be my preferred way to play it from now on.

Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy are three near-perfect platforming adventures. In my opinion, they are must-play games that everyone should experience at some point, and what better time then now on the Nintendo Switch.

9 / 10.0
Whether the year it was released has affected the way Super Mario 3D All-Stars came together, we'll probably never know, but it still comes with a wholehearted recommendation simply due to the quality of the

6.5 / 10.0
Despite collecting three of Mario's most well-known games, Super Mario 3D All Stars doesn't justify their porting onto the Switch. With minimal improvements, few features that truly make it feel like an "Anniversary celebration" and some bafflingly lazy design choices, 3D All Stars feels like more like a quick cash grab.

9 / 10
We've had an absolute blast playing through these three gems all over again, especially now they look sharper than ever. It's a shame that the presentation is practically barebones with no bonus content beyond the soundtracks, but there can still be no denying the quality of the games on offer here. This is the Beatles' Greatest Hits of the video game world, and is an absolute treat whether you're reliving it in HD or discovering it for the first time.

A lazy title like this getting high scores? Emulators can do much more than what Nintendo is giving out plus limited release.

If gaming critics had any intergrity, they'd be tearing this game to pieces for its laziness.

Guess Nintendo can do no wrong according to so-called critics.

Some of the best video games ever made being reissued for new people who never played them getting a high score? OH THE HUMANITY!

It's three of the GOATs in a single package. If you have lived in a cave all your life and never played them, it's insane value.

As they're straight emulation instead of a worthy remake, a score over 90+ could be a bit outrageous. An 84 sounds about right.

About what I was expecting, looking at the past two weeks. The games are competently transferred, upgraded to modern display standards, and some obnoxiously low-res 2D elements were fixed.

That’s perfectly fine, and I look forward to playing them, but the reviews are right to call out the complete lack of going above and beyond for the 35th anniversary of a legendary pop culture icon.

That seems to be par for the course with Nintendo anniversaries though.

Good games are fun. Why is emulating games an issue? If it works, it works. And they can use those emulators later for further N64/Gamecube/Wii titles later on. I don't get why people are upset. The only shitty thing about 3D All-Stars so far is that the physical launch is limited.

Said it before, don’t really care for reviews or reviewers either way, but it’s Mario64 on switch and I’m all for it. Buzzin.

A lot of people that will be picking this up did not even play those games so it will be a fresh experience for them.

Nintendo understands that they have two markets, one market for kids and the other for nostalgic adults and both will buy their products no matter what quality its in

The games are old but are loved classics. Would rather pay $60 for this to play on my Switch than $60 for Ubisoft micro transaction BS or an EA sports roster refresh.

Amazing that somehow this has gotten the attention from NeoGAF as a rip-off.

How they have handled Galaxy is the real crime here.

It isn’t game ending, but yeah, the star bits stuff is a bit obnoxious. I don’t want to scrub the screen with my finger, and print it up, constantly. I feel like I just won’t bother with them in portable, like I didn’t bother with Odyssey’s extra moves in portable mode.

That’s annoying (on both), because I think the Chinese Nvidia Shield port had a better way of handling this?

Two of these games are usually near the top of goat lists, but package them together and you get an 8 apparently.

Lol, in fairness, it makes sense to review the package they arrive in as well, particularly on an anniversary. The games are still as ten as ever, as everyone knows.

I believe they mapped the right stick to the cursor on the Shield port. It wasnt ideal but its better than this I think.

I am not mad at emulation if its done right but the handling of Galaxy is absurd.

Am I missing something or did you quote your thread in your thread. 😆

All things said, I’m really looking forward to playing this. I wanted above and beyond, but at the end of the day, I’m not going to say no to playing three of my favorite games ever (with one probably being the most favorite), with the common sense upgrades, on the Switch.

I’m incredibly excited to jump into Sunshine again after all these years.

I see a 6 and some 8 there even critics are criticizing the lack of features

Anyways, its just a good game getting good scores regardless of anything, its NOT broken so why it should be getting bad scores 🤔

Absolute minimum to zero effort on any enhancements, selling 20 year old roms for full price in limited quantity to make sure the drones lap it up at full freight, shit doesn't even deserve an 8. Games should be looked at as a full package in today's market not just a rating from 20 years ago

It's a Nintendo title but so the fans will be out in full force defending the practice and why this heralds greatness and deserves a 94 on meta. Imagine the backlash if Sony or Microsoft released GT or AoE with zero enhancements still sporting the original matching iso files at full fare slapped into a new case or digital download :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I really do think it's cool that we're getting a collection like this, that being said, I really wish there was more done with it. I could see how this would come off as a cash grab to a number of folks. I mean, having them on the Switch and on the go is awesome. It's just sad knowing that they could all look better on an emulator I'm sure.

If they had integrity they would score the package correctly, not the games that they were 15-20 years ago. BUT if they did that Nintendo would get mad and withhold game code for them in the future. Game reviewers are corrupt.

Guys I'm not interested in 64 or Sunshine, but is it worth getting this collection just for Galaxy?
I never played it and heard many good things. For reference Odyssey didn't click with me tbh.
