Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review thread

I'm not too sure i agree with them releasing reviews even before subscribers get their issues. When they have such a relatively modest readership, keeping them feeling vauled must be a high priority.

I don't buy Edge for the reviews :lol

Alright, since lost planet 2 seems to be a turd I can play smg1 next week. And yea I had a wii since launch, I don't even know how or why I skipped that game.

I can't tell whether you're praising GTA4 or insulting Bayonetta. :(

Edit: According to people I've talked to their standard for 10s has changed. It used to be reserves solely for revolutionary games.
GTA4 is incredible, regardless of the GAF hate.

Okay, just making sure. You can never tell with GAF sometimes.

I still actually liked it, just not as much as the previous two console GTAs.

They're both superb games.

That's cool, but it's not like any review on this game (positive or negative) will affect my several month old Amazon preorder :D

I can't freaking wait. I loved the first Mario Galaxy so much.

From the fourth map onwards, Galaxy 2 ups the challenge, rarely dropping you on to a platform that isn’t sinking or melting, or pitching you towards an incline that isn’t heavy with massive rolling cogs. It’s hard, but for the best reasons, earning the right to frustrate through the sheer quality of its ideas. The increased difficulty is merely a by-product of the new knots in which the designers want to tie your brain.
Yes. This is exactly what I wanted to hear.

said it before and i'll say it now: just watching the trailers for SMG2 is somehow a better video game than actually playing 95% of the shit i've dabbled in for the past year.

Think I'm gonna grab myself my first Wii come pay day, just too many games I want to play on it now tbh.

Same here, unfortunately. SMG really spoiled me :(

Prediction: Alan Wake will get an 8.

Agreed. If they follow there past 360 formula, it will be = floor(Metacritic-0.3), while if they follow the MP/PS3 formula it will be a 7 = floor(Metacritic-1.3).

Good god I cannot wait for this game to come out

Galaxy was like pure joy distilled into a videogame. For their next trick, I'm expecting BLISS.

I developed an aversion to Mario at a very young age. Strange because I was a primed preteen when he first came out, but I've never understood the attraction.....at all. Now I just really want to punch him in the face.

My loss, I'm sure. *shugs*

Happy for those who've love him though.

Mario games are always wonderful.

I should point out that I've never played Sunshine, the only game in the main Mario series I haven't. Just never got around to it, though I hope to one of these days. I've still got my Gamecube hidden around somewhere.

Why do you say that? They're not throwing them out all over the place are they? They're still exclusively for incredible titles such as Bayonetta and GTA4.

I almost missed the sarcasm.

The attraction is that the games are really fucking good, so yeah, your loss.

Hard to believe it's almost 2 weeks away.

When was the last time 3 new great Mario platformers hit the same system? Never?

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is like the first time Nintendo gave me something I wanted.

It's a weird feeling to have.

You must despise platformers or be an idiot but then again, I personally find those two synonymous but that's me!!!!!

Stop going online for a while and these games creep up on you.

Being out of the loop has its perks.

Like I said, the rest of the scores aren't out yet. But subscribers will get the issue tomorrow I think.

This isn't an EDGE thread, this is a thread to repost the Super Mario Galaxy 2 review in its own thread. We'll let someone who has the real EDGE magazine do the appropriate topic.

Instead I'm just going to make this thread into what you actually wanted it to be.

Well, consider me surprised. I enjoyed SMG, but pretty much ignored SMG2 since E3 because it just seemed like the exact same game... Never doubt Mario, I suppose. :lol

Nintendo didn't become successful and got a huge following because it gave fans what they wanted.

I believe this is the thread for all Mario Galaxy 2 reviews. (Or did I see the thread after you changed the thread title?)

Watch some of the recent trailers/gameplay videos. There are a lot of differences.

Nintendo used to give me what I wanted all the time. Now they give me what I want once or twice a year.

But it's ok, because this year, what they're giving me is motherfuckin' SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2. And they also say Zelda, but I still don't believe that shit. I'll believe it when I see it!

Correct, it was EDGE thread, but it had no information on articles just "this is the SMG2 thread the magazine isn't out yet" ;P

So I changed the title, so we can put all SMG2 reviews in here.

Amir0x locked thread, posted message, then someone changed thread title, and reopened thread.

Title change. Used to be something like "Edge 215 thread", then only had one score in the OP.

Seriously. Sequels usually aren't this radically different from their predecessors without making people hate the game, but this is doing it pretty well.

Seems to me a "proper" sequel, nothing drastically different but several new ideas expanding upon the already stellar mechanics/premise.

What about Sin & Punishment 2 and Samus: The Anime Adventures and Pikmin 3 featuring Kirby.

Correct, it was EDGE thread, but it had no information on articles just "this is the SMG2 thread the magazine isn't out yet" ;P

So I changed the title, so we can put all SMG2 reviews in here.

It's almost too easy.

No, I accidentally hit lock. I changed the title too.

I didn't want to say it was you in case it was someone else. But you are also someone so technically what I said was correct.

Oh yeah, Sin & Punishment 2. Fuck yeah that too.

Pikmin 3 is never coming out ever :(

Not a fan of Kirby games. Samus I'm over here being skeptical about until I play it.

SUPER MARIUUU GALAXY 222!

(Wii is having a strong second half for me - Monster Hunter Tri, Super Mario Galaxy, Sin & Punishment 2, Endless Ocean 2). Nice buncha games. If they have Zelda too it'd be sick.

so basically Galaxy 2 is no better than Galaxy 1.

is this the first time an EDGE has been the 'exclusive' review?

there's a whole lot less cynicism in the exclusive review thread than usual.
