Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I'm thinking about going all in on the TE2 Frys deal, swapping the sides for yellow ones, adding some Birdie art, and possibly changing the buttons (less likely) and/or ball top. (more likely)

Should I do it now or wait, GAF? I don't recall there being any real sales of these and I don't know what the odds are of seeing one before SFV releases.
I bought it, not real happy that I did but I started putting together some art to help justify it

It's a solid discount compared to MadCatz's standard price. I say bite.

I ended up picking up an HRAP v4 (I heard the new ones with the touchpads have a lot of input lag) for the SFV beta and for when I eventually get time to learn Xrd.

I am in love with this stick. It's really nice. I also bought some Sanwa OBSCs for it but haven't installed them.

Checked the input lag tables right away, regretting my unnecessary HRAP V Silent purchase now... oh well...

Oh? Would you mind my asking why you're not that happy with it?

I've owned a TE-S. Wasn't trilled with the overall finish/build quality, but it was a solid stick.
I just want to use my HRAP3SA on PS4 is all, spending $180 when I have a perfectly good stick sitting around is frustrating, but I lost the will to do another padhack

Oh gotcha. I hope PS3 peripheral support gets added to SFV but I'm not holding my breath for it.

I did get one of the HRAP4 Kais a while ago but had a poor experience with going directly through Hori. It arrived damaged and it took several phone calls over the course of about a month for them to do anything about it. In addition, while I didn't like them as much as Sanwas the Kuro buttons were serviceable while I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the Hyabusa. I won't buy a Hori stick again out of principle, but I would spend as much or more than a TE2 replacing the internals if I were to purchase one anyway.

Only issue I've heard about with the TE2 is the top plexi being loose and moving around, which is pretty lame. Having to buy a third party plexi to keep the top secure is not acceptable imo.

Maybe they'll update the drivers at some point? Feels like sticks with low input lag would be a priority for Hori but I'm not really an expert.

Even some of the more poorly rated sticks have under a frame of input lag, so keep that in mind.

ive always hated mad catz, and still do, but $180 for a TE2 was cheaper than I can get an HRAPv4 + buttons and sticks (because sanwa is way better).

Blazblue and GG are already out without PS3 peripheral support, so I was screwed, and 2 padhacks was my limit, I just wanted to get a travel stick and be done with it.

Has there ever been such driver update? Would be curious about examples

my OG 360 TE was great top to bottom, so i'm not going to bite on a new one until i see that level of quality again.

i'm holding off an a TE purchase til good plexi becomes the norm again.

If u r talking about a revision or update, most likely not this year, the Chun li te2 is still supposed to drop in the "fall". They said that will have an updated plexi though at least.

i'd love to see a source on that, if you have one! i just want the current black/blue TE2 but with not-terrible plexi in it :/

The timeout on PS4 when using the PS360+ is such a drag; it's sucked all the fun out of using my stick for the SFV beta.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about a fix, even if it's a bluetooth add-on for the PCB?
Does the PS3 mode work for games that support PS3 sticks? I'm guessing eventual PS3 stick support would be the main hope for SFV for now.

PS360+ removed PS4 auto detection so u can use it in PS3 mode for the games that support it. Have to hold two buttons while plugging it in to get PS4 mode. Forget which two

I heard the plexi is "flimsy" but I didn't know there was a problem with it moving around. I haven't seen one in person so I'm not sure how they're assembled, but I'd be interested in seeing if it would be able to line the perimeter with some non-slip material or something.

Seconding the loose plexi. I guess I'll buy a proper one and do some custom art. Right now I'm stuck between Godzilla fucking 70s Pam Grier or one themed around Clueless

Apologies if this isn't the right thread but I have a PS3 Injustice Fightstick I'm trying to get to work on PC. Speficially (and hilariously) for MK9 and SFIVAE PC. It'll pickup my 360 TE no problem but for some reason it won't even register the Injustice stick. Is this something I can solve with Joy2Key or another controller configuring app?

I'm hoping to turn my spare system into a fighting game cabinet and not having to build a stick from scratch (or pony up for another 360 stick) would be preferable.

Odd, it doesn't show up under button config at all? I know it always lists my stick but I have to scroll left through all the devices in the in-game config before it'll show up.

could I ask for some advice in here?

I am in dire need of an arcade stick since I love old school fighting games and arcade games and I wanna decent joystick to play with.

now what I can buy here in Iceland, used is a datel arcade pro stick for $77. the question is, is it good enough? should I consider something else instead?

any1 selling something better?
mind you if you I live in Iceland so postage might be high :(

How much would two Hori RAP4 VLX PS3/PS4 sticks go for on the second hand market? One still sealed, one demoed for 30 minutes and still like new mint? I love them but I just got laid off today and would rather have the cash for now.
I'd be willing to buy one depending on the price.

Strange that you want a past gen stick. anyway, Any stick at that price has terrible parts that should be replaced. You'll probably need to import them, though not sure what stores are your best option.

it´s not that I want a past gen stick, I just wanna good stick and wanted to know if this is sufficient or not. if not please point me to something else then :) and hopefully it ships to iceland

How much are you willing to spend? A good stick will cost at least $120. And on what console do you plan on using it?

Hey MarkMan, are you guys going to get any more stock for the web store or is the te2 all out of stock for the labor day sale? Would love to get one for $150.

Edit: Nvm, just saw that it excludes sticks.

This is strange. Ive read conflicting reports on this. I know myself and my group of friends have this hrap but dont feel any lag at all. Perhaps some sticks have it and others dont.

well, here she is after slapping some custom art in
L6rnR9d.jpg

not real happy with it, too big and bulky, plexi is loose (big surprise), but at least I have a travel stick for PS4 now.

Having trouble getting used to the stick positioning, I like how my hand rests on the slope on Hori sticks

I'm personally really loving how stable the TE2 is on my lap. The weight is well-distributed and the non-slip pad on the bottom is the best I've encountered.

Coming back to Guilty Gear +R I-No after a long hiatus, I was expecting to drop a lot of stick-motion heavy combos out of rust, but the stability of the stick is such that I'm dropping less to hand-slippage/lap-movement than ever. It just sits so well on my legs.

Out of the 5 sticks I've owned (TE1, Qanba Q4 RAF, Qanba Q2, eTokki Omni, and this TE2), and countless other-people's sticks I've used, I'd rank it at the top. Only con for me is that it doesn't fit in my old messenger bag.

Haven't heard of it happening before but it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility if there were enough complaints.

This is where I got the information from:

PS4%20Arcade%20stick%20lag%20results.png

I'd like mention that I am far from an expert. And after doing a little more research into this guy's methods it seems that the results are a bit like cutting off a section of a bar graph. Similar to how some news organizations will cut off the lower portion of a bar graph to make the differences in the results seem more dramatic, when they're really negligible. It's important to note that the PS360+ PCB doesn't actually have 0.00 ms input lag. It was just the lowest value they tested, so they used that as a base. the + numbers you see on the other controllers/sticks are showing that these devices have that many more ms of input lag than the "control". Regardless, it seems like anything under a frame of input lag isn't really going to matter in the grand scheme.

I've seen a lot of people cite the teyah chart but I havent heard anyone who owns the Kai on this forum or otherwise complain of noticeable input lag, so I'd take it with a grain of salt. And like XenoRaven said, the chart is set up to make the lag difference look way more dramatic than it actually is (probably because that's the best way to get attention).

Fuck it. TE2 bought. The plexi issue actually kind of pushed me toward a purchase since I like coming up with simple solutions to widespread problems. I'll respond back after I tinker with it if I'm able to figure anything out.

Already looked into getting some art done by Art's. Is that the way to go? Also, could some kind person help me with the template? I don't have photoshop.

Was thinking about just going all black with this slapped on there somewhere.

Art is the way to go. Also if you get a plexi from him, it won't move.

Also that picture isn't a high enough resolution. You'll want something large at 300dpi for print.

Ok cool. Thanks for the feedback. However, I wouldn't want it blown up and stretched across the entirety of the top. I was thinking keeping it mostly black and adding that to the bottom left corner.

Of course, suggestions are appreciated, but I think I'm pretty settled on a Birdie theme.(or Birdie and Mika would be cool)

Not a pro, but neither of my Kais feel like there is latency. I'm still not 100% sold on his methods because while the game he's using (GG in most cases) does have a sort of check in it that you would think lends itself well to this, it's not entirely accurate because of the polling window, which is actually explained but not taken into enough consideration.

In the end, most people won't notice if a stick is slightly more latent, but between using my PS360+ and my Kai I don't feel a difference, and I don't feel a difference with them in PS3 mode on my PS3 versus my V3 Kai on the same system. This isn't to say there isn't a difference, it's a very real possibility, but putting numbers to something without truly scientific checking is a bit dangerous in this sort of community.

I just bought an HRAP4 last week. I don't like the way the bottom has sharp edges that dig into your lap if you are wearing shorts. And the kuro buttons feel a tad odd, but other than that I like the stick a lot. My hands feel better on it, the slope is a nice rest for the wrist, and most importantly NO MORE SCREW HEADS TO DIG INTO MY WRISTS AND SHEAR OFF WHEN I TRY TO UNDO THEM.

I dunno if i'll ever go back to another MC stick after this.

After reading about the loose plexi on the TE2, I would have been super fucking pissed if I bought one.

Right, I understand that. However 72 dpi is less than 1/3 of the minimum resolution for print. That picture at 750x750 is going to be about the size of a quarter in the corner.

You could still replace the Kuro buttons with some Sanwas.

Gotcha. Clearly I have no fucking clue what I'm doing so thanks for setting me straight.
