Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

You didn't say it could change. You said

This is just as moronic as saying Directinput sticks won't be supported on PC in SFV in any way because they aren't in the last version of the beta. It's typical for the way you post though, so I shouldn't be surprised.
I meant in the recent post, but now I see the error in my wording from the quoted post,

Does any one use/have the Crown 303-FK with the Fanta Upgrade mod in their stick? It's being sold at Focus Attack and it looks promising, I have a Hori Hayabusa in my stick currently but I was looking to try something new and I like the idea of a faster return to neutral.

I know someone who used the Fanta & loved it. That being said, I've seen more Crown mods than Fanta mods, so maybe the Crown is easier to mod into sticks (gotta try it for myself to be sure). But yeah, if you're curious about the stick & want to try something new, I don't see why not. You can always switch back if you don't like it (or return it within a timely manner).

Well the Crown 303-FK fits into the Sanwa mounting bracket for easy installation. The Fanta Upgrade mod is just a different rubber grommet and microswitches that emulate the feel of an authentic Myoungshin Fanta, seems like there's no impressions or reviews of the mod other than the description of it on Focus Attack.

hello arcade stick guru's, I have pre-orders in for both the Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick TE2 and Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick TES Plus for PS4/PS3.

I was wondering if anyone knows which is the better? and if these will also work on PC? I would like to use it with emulators and I also like the idea of even maybe using them for DIY arcade cabinet in the future. These are top tier sticks right? Any feedback would be great.

Thanks!

Neither one is "better." It's all down to preference. TE2 is a bit bigger, is a clamshell design so it's easier to open up and mod. Old TEs felt a bit more solid as a result, a bit more difficult to customize, but not impossibly so.

A lot of people like the TE-S design/feel more. I prefer the TE2. They're both amazing sticks.

There is a review out there that speaks of the Fanta joystick in an arcade stick, & a number of them that review the Fanta stick. On top of that, I recall Mad Catz selling sticks with a Korean stick (if MarkMan could chime in on the subject, that'd be appreciated).

Basically, though I heard that it uses the improved Chun-Li plexi (correct me if I'm wrong). It also has L3 & R3 buttons, though neither those or the touch pad are used in Street Fighter V in any way. The additional buttons would mainly help with USF4 or Xrd.
Skullgirls as well. The touchpad is the back button. So there is no way to go back on the character select screen with the current TE2.

Thanks for the feedback. What about compatibility with PC or even Xbox One?

Korean Arcade Stick maker "Magic Lab" made a wonderful product recently.
It is called Magicstick M5 series. (M5/M5s)

The below is specification and functions.

M5/M5s
- Size: 302 x 212 x 141mm / 341 x 232 x 141mm
- Weight: 2.2kg / 3.4kg
- Lever: MAGICLAB MSR-58* or Samduksa 303FM (No guide)
- Button: Sanwa OBSF-30
- Support Platform: PS3/PS4/PC
- Normal Mode:
PS3/PS4(=Dualshock 4 mode)/PC
(On PS4, Normal mode has no 8-min timeout mode, and It's same as Dualshock 4)
- Zero Lag mode:
MAME 1P&2P Mode(=Keyboard mode)/PS3 Zero Lag mode/PS4 Zero Lag mode
(8-min timeout on PS4 Zero Lag mode. But you can always enable this mode continuously through built-in reset button... if you press reset button before 8-min timeout)
- Firmware update via USB connection
- Price: Approximately $118/$131

(*: MSR-58 is Taiwan Product(and Made in China). It's a copy product of LS-58, and It has Enhanced Spring and No guide.)

Customer reviews are so far really good. Apparently, M5 is more faster than PS360+ on Zero lag mode, and It's easy to customize lever and buttons. But Key setting is a little bit difficult, and there is no mode indicator (even there is no LED)

Just saw this on Focus Attack, Brook PS3/PS4 stick PCB:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3bdsD4X2JE

And Brook Fight board is a slightly faster than Fighting Commander 4 from Hori.

My custom currently has a Sanwa JLF but I really don't think I love it. It has too much throw, not enough resistance and I struggle to locate the four primary directions of a square gate and overshoot often. Any recommendations for a replacement?

Maybe cheap-out and try some combination an oversized actuator (for the throw), a heavier spring (for the resistance) and an octagonal gate before ditching it entirely? You'll probably struggle to hit all three requirements on the same part without some kind of modification or after-market part, honestly.

I have the SFV TES+ on pre order. I would like to swap the stock buttons for silent ones and change the art maybe. I have a few questions:

There are silent 30mm buttons.
There are also foam washers that I assume would go into my stock buttons.

What's the end result difference?

I assume that to open the case I'd have to unscrew the six hex bolts on the top of the stick. Is the art a sheet of paper between a plexi and the deck that I can easily replace, or is there more to it?

Is the extra $50 worth it for the upgrade to the Te2+?

Sorry for the noob questions.

Pretty much what I was going to say, but I'll add that the Kowal actuator itself adds a little resistance too (not sure why but it does). It's not a huge amount but might be enough on its own if you want it just a little tighter.

End result difference? None. Just depends if you want to open each button up and put in the pad, that's all.

1. Correct, that's how you open it
2. Not sure on the art. Usually for the old TE the art is just a laminated piece on top of the metal panel. Usually you'll need to print out some art and buy a plexi to cover it when replacing it.

IIRC the red and green ones are just HRAP2's and use Hori parts (I may be wrong about this).

I used this HRAP2SA (SA meaning all Sanwa parts)

TXrJqMS.jpg

Man it does look really comfortable. I've heard it's the best PS2 stick and it does seem that way with all that room and a decent weight. I don't have a problem with the Viewlix layout but the angle on the green model just looks weird.

There's only 1 HRAP2SA.

Before & After shot:

Yeah I realized my mistake after. I'm assuming you can swap in 30mm buttons and hoping there's a bracket for sanwa/seimitsu on the other HRAP2's. Though I read somewhere that while similar the T5 stick needs to be dremeled.
Personally I have only used old PS-15 buttons and was not a big fan. If there are less resistive seimitsu buttons I'd probably be all over them.
Btw does anyone know the size of the JLF eclip? I want to buy a few but am not paying whatever cost plus several bucks for a few grams of metal from an fgc shop.

If they have the HRAP2 designation they should be compatible with Seimitsu mounting brackets. http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/25757/hrap-2-modding-tutorial

PS2 HRAPs (without SA or SE) have Sanwa sticks and Hori buttons. SA suffix = full sanwa and SE suffix = full seimitsu
check this hrap guide if you have the chance http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/13083/hori-real-arcade-pro-faq-for-all-versions

My wife got me a ps4/ps3 TE2 for Christmas, super happy because I couldn't afford a stick and my old real arcade pro was for xbox 360 not playstation, and I was stressing about how I was gonna play SFV. My only question/concern is she got the old version that does not have the ps4 touchpad. Is that likely to cause any issues? I know it won't for street fighter but are we expecting that most future fighting games will not use the touch pad? Do any of the existing fighters use the touchpad for anything? I will probably mostly play Street Figther but if something new/interesting comes out I'd like to be able to play it.

Also why couldn't they run the beta this weekend instead of last weekend? I got nothing to play on this thing.

a lot of games seemed to use it for position reset in practice. Xrd did this, luckily with BBCPE arcsys allows remapping that functionality which solved the issue. Hopefully revelator does the same

Not for general play, but MarkMan did imply that Capcom added some touchpad functionality in the final build of Street Fighter V. Though as of the beta, there's no telling what that functionality entails since it wasn't used in said beta. At most, it'll probably be on the level of, say, Mortal Kombat X where you can quick reset in Training Mode. But again, we have to wait for official confirmation from Capcom on the matter. As for the L3 & R3 buttons, they were used in the first beta, but not in the latter two. Though, again, MarkMan did imply that said functionality was added back into the final build.

Hrmmm do we think any of this would be a reason to think about returning this for the newer model? What was the functionality of the L3 and R3 in the beta I can't say I remember ever trying them? I'm not really concerned about menu shortcuts or position reset in training mode just the main gameplay. My wife will be heartbroken if I suggest we return it to try to swap it out (if that's even possible). I'm guessing she bought this long before the new ones were even announced. Looking at the L3 R3 position on the new stick it certainly doesn't look like it's intended to be used during gameplay. I feel like it would be silly to lock a menu option away behind those two buttons too so i'm hoping it's all good.

In the first beta, L3 & R3 were just two additional buttons that you could map.

Thanks for the info, sounds more like a feature for gamepads and less useful for sticks. Sounds like it should work just fine for Street Fighter I'm gonna keep the stick and not worry about it. I probably won't play any other fighting games anyways, maybe i'll give the new Mortal Kombat a try but it sounds like the stick should work just fine for that too outside of practice mode. I'm gonna stop worrying and go back to being super excited. Build quality seems pretty amazing on this thing, definitely the best stick I've every owned.

I notice there's no headset jack on here. How do people usually deal with that? Can I sign in a second controller to join a party for voice chat?

That's usually my work-around. Either that or use a USB headset. BlazBlue should allow you to remap the buttons (or so I've heard), so maybe Xrd Revelator will follow suit. USF4 does use the touchpad to a decent degree, but you can side-step the issue by switching to PS3 mode.
