Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I've been practicing using an arcade stick for a while now, and while my execution has improved (I can even though consistent 360 command grabs from standing now), I'm struggling with two things mainly, Spinning Bird Kick motions, and dashing/back dashing.

UMVC3 is fine because I can hit two buttons to dash, but games that require double forward or back to dash just mess me up. I can't manage to do the motion quick enough, and when I do manage it I can't manage to do it consecutively.

I'm using the TVC Wii Stick on the PS3, and I'm not sure what mode it should be set on. I had it set on D-Pad, but tried left stick yesterday and that was alright too. Is there any difference between the two, and if so, what is the recommended mode?
how are you holding the stick?
for me, dashing is two taps with the middle of my index finger or two taps with the tip of my thumb.

I've got a sad tale for you all. My house recently got burgled and all my sticks are sadly gone. My collection previously comprised a beat up but still working great 360 TE, a spare (brand new and boxed) 360 Round 2 TE, PS3 Virtua Stick, two crappy Hori EX2 360 sticks that were busted anyway, a 360 modded Dreamcast stick, and the only interesting one of the bunch:

EpvgF26.jpg

A modded Dreamcast stick with a PS1 PCB stuck in there. I know it doesn't look like much compared to the beauties that get posted every day in this thread, but cosmetically modded sticks weren't so common back in 2006! That's the only one I'm cut up about losing really.

What's the cheapest way to get hold of a new 360 stick with Sanwa parts in the UK? Are the Qanba 3 in 1 sticks decent? Should I just get the cheapest Hori/Mad Catz stick I can find?

Man that sucks dude, surprising that they'd take the arcade sticks too considering most burglars wouldn't find them to be worth much or know what they were to begin with. Really depends on what system you'll be playing arcade games on more.

The worst possible thing a stick collector can possibly have happen to them, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss :[
The Qanbas I have haven't failed me yet, and they're pretty awesome to bring to locals. The Madcatz sticks are constantly on sale, though.

Thanks for the kind words guys. To be honest I was never really a stick collector, just someone who ended up aquiring various sticks through playing fighting and shooting games over the last decade. That last Dreamcast stick only bugs me because I put so much time into it back in the day and it's been all over the world with me.

I ordered the Qanba anyway, I still go to enough events these days to where it's advantageous to have a stick that works on both consoles. Also while the Virtua Stick and the TE were both great, it was always weird switching between them (even though they have the exact same parts) so it'll be nice not to have to deal with that.

They must have had some clue about what's worth money because they left my fake plastic instruments right where they sat. I understand they had quite a long time to pick and choose what to take without being interrupted, despite smashing through a patio window to get in. At the same time they took all my worthless PS3 and 360 games but left the PS2 and PS1 games that were actually worth some money, so maybe I'm giving them too much credit!

Honestly? Targeted thefts like that are usually people you know. Make sure people you trust know what's missing so they can tell you if they spot somewhat-less-trusted acquaintances with your stuff. Might also be worth hitting up some pawn shops in the area and seeing if you see any of your things there.

i suck at taking pics.

super clean work J. Dude I was talking to Ray a few weeks ago. That dude is hilarious. I bought a pair of really old P360s. I texted him about it later in the day and he's all like oh the ones that just got sold on eBay? LOL. He already owns three Wico 360s. Truly a jerk.

these days, I feel extremely lacking without a robust American stick. I think making one out of an unused HRAP shell w/ custom panel would be sick. So difficult to track down the original P360s, however. New Happs will simply not cut it.

Is that a MAS stick I see? Nice!

I love mine.

I got it for $10 at a flea market two or three years ago. The guy there had been trying to sell it for years, but no one wanted it. It works great, though some of the exterior could look better, but it's not too bad...I guess. At least it works perfectly.

I'm pretty sure I posted about the stick here ages ago, though...

I use mine for my PlayStation 1, 2, 3, and PC. For the latter two I use a USB adapter with it, of course.

I hope to clean up the exterior better one of these days, and replace the t-molding...as there's none on the right side. I used some electrical tape to mask it. Heh.

yeah he went crazy on wico's.

what's funny about wico's i had one in my closet for like 2 years then rogerdoger asked me to add psx to some mas stick he had so he could play cvs2. i didn't like the comp stick he had in it so i just installed the wico i had in his stick and gave it to him for nothing. i probably coulda saved ray a ton of headache if i still had that thing.

i'm thinking an american stick would sit tall in an hrap shell. ray mentioned he had an empty mas shell though. you should hit him up if you're interested.

quite a score on the MAS. Did it come with a Competition or P360? Also cool game room. What version of ST is that?

wow a free Wico 360, ggs. I'll see about that MAS shell, I actually have a mini MAS which was my first stick ever. It served me well. About USA sticks sitting tall in an HRAP, I have access to a machine shop at work and I've modified Happ shafts before. You would just need to shorten one and get a lighter spring to deal with the new torque. A project I worked on a few years ago was fitting a Comp shaft inside an LS-32 lol. It was pretty clean and worked well but I can't find a picture at the moment.

It's a Competition stick, I think. I could be wrong, though...I'm not an expert on this stuff. Hah.

Also cool game room.
Thanks. I wish I had nicer furniture, but I made do with what I had. It's a pretty comfy room, with lots of space for any type of game. I might try and get a nice chair for it soon. I only turned it into a game room recently. There used to be huge bed that was taking up most of the space, but I moved that into another room that no one was using. Here's a post I made in another thread about it.

What version of ST is that?
That's the PlayStation version that came in the Street Fighter Collection, which also has the original Super and Alpha 2 Gold. It's one of the better ports I've played, and is apparently better than the Saturn version...somehow. It seems that the Saturn version suffers from slowdown, which the PlayStation version doesn't.

I only ever used the handle to pick up my stick when I was going to use it.

I guess that's still nearly two years of being picked up once a day, but it was only ever for a few seconds at a time.

How long does Art's Hobbies usually take? Not sure if I want to have this shipped back home or here, at school. I go home in early May and the order is mirror plexi.

I think it depends on how much customization you get done to the plexi.
When I bought a TE plexi with the standard 8-button layout, I received it within a week.

The order of my VX-SA plexi with the 7-button Viewlix layout, 360 / PS3 button etching, and no bottom-center screw hole took longer to process, or ship.
I think I received that one around 2 1/2 weeks from the placement of the order.

Where'd you get the cables for those? Is there a variant for the Wii Remote input?

I'm new to this stuff and I'm thinking of dual modding and I was wondering where I could start and which motherboard works best.

Mainly just so I can use my VLX or future Fighting Edge on both my PS3 and the occasional Tatsunoko/TTT2 on my Wii U.

got this, technically, it still is 6 button, just a weird layout.

also, WTF was ASCII thinking. It uses a SUPER stiff spring, but not only that, the actuator has extra washers on it, making it compressed, more stiff than usual. I really dont get it. haha. I immediately changed it to sanwa JLF parts.

So stick-gaf I have a question for a buddy of mine that's started playing a ton of fighting games on steam and getting sick of pads.

What's the best entry level option available right now for something that'll work well on PC? Anything in the $40-$60 USD range or does he need to up the budget? I'm trying not to recommend something too pricey as I don't know how far he wants to take this.

Used the WWE brawlstick PS3 as the base, put in a PS360+ PCB so I could get Dreamcast support as well:

Vgtzby1.jpg

Still using stock parts though, anyone know a good place online where I can get Seimitsu parts?

the guy i play VF with uses a cronus for PS3->360. no discernible input lag but it's VF so there's a 12 frame input buffer lol.

Hori PS4 Stick Hayabusa V4

Available for PreOrder at AmiAmi

GAME-0010997.jpg

Edit: It's interesting that it's described as a PS4/PS3 stick. Awesome if it's backwards compatible

Not that it's a tie-in product but the fact that it's being released at all. I doubt they did this just for Injustice (although nice for people who bought it).

There are currently no other PS4 games that are ideal for an arcade stick for Hori to make this kind of investment.

But then again it's supposedly PS3 compatible so there's that angle.

Maybe, but a new Guilty Gear wouldn't hit home consoles until the holiday season the earliest. This is quite the pre-emptive strike. Maybe it's part of Hori's "Hayabusa everywhere" campaign they seem to be in the middle of. Whether it has any games or not. They should make an iPhone controller next.

Edit: Just got the email that it's available for pre-order from NCSX too: http://www.shopncsx.com/ps4realarcadeprov4hayabusajoystick.aspx

I also don't know if Capcom has the resources to do a PS4 port of USFIV. I guess they could outsource, but if it's happening, we probably should have heard about it by now.
