Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

And in the end the VLX lasted longer than the week they originally expected, oh well, good for everyone I guess. Hopefully some people can still jump in.

Anyway I was watching some videos with Kuro buttons and they sound awful. Are there actual negatives for going for silent Sanwa buttons? They are just the 8 OBSFS-30 and a single OBSFS-24 right?

The non brushed metal is a deal killer for me.

I ended up canceling mine due to that. Beautiful looking stick but I'm not up for seeing it degrade for $330.

I hate the FE stick button layout so I'll have to hope for another VLX diamond in the future.

I'd have to jump on a brushed metal VLX too, then wish it had the Kai layout.

Is the Kai layout the same as the Fighting Edge's?

So is the ps360+ the best bet for me if i want my 360 fightstick to work on ps4? Not trying to get another stick anytime soon.

I think the FE has a noir layout (more rounded button layout) vs. the Kai's vewlix layout. I'm not sure about spacing between the buttons and stick though if that's what you're asking.

Here's a quick video I put together comparing the Hori Kuro and Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons:

Three sticks used in the comparison:

- HRAP V4 (Stock Kuro & Hayabusa)
- Fighting Edge (Stock Kuro & Hayabusa)
- HRAP3 (Sanwa JLF & OBSF-30)

Just out of curiosity is the cord longer than last gen or will I need an extender again?

The HRAP V4 cord length is the same as the V3, so if you had trouble with that, you may have trouble again. I don't have the Kai, though, so I don't know if that one's longer...

Cool got my Amazon shipping confirmation for the Kai and have an extender anyway...not a huge deal but TE sticks are perfect by default. Hope my Kronos Max works with and Xbox one for KI but just couldn't resist it for DOA and ultimately SFV.

I've always been meaning to go there as I live relatively close to it. Sad to hear it's closed down. Do you know of where the new location is going to be?

Id rather not say until he nails it down, but still relatively close to you if your near the original place. Same situation here, I never went because I had only heard about it recently. Im in the area often to go to Frank and Sons, id of definitely gone sooner had I known about it.

I can't fucking wait to get my hands on it. I'll admit, I did a very poor job of taking care of my first VLX. I was thinking about spending some money to restore it. But when this new one was announced I just decided to sell it instead and get this because I didn't want to give up the new Mad Catz TE2 that I already pre ordered a while ago. When I do get this I will definitely do a better job of keeping it in great condition.

Do people typically play with the VLX on their lap or is it more designed for standing?
It looks great, but I've found having the buttons start left of center feels weird and generally it would be centered on your lap.

Seems ideal for a computer desk

Myself personally I don't like playing it on my lap. I think it's ideal to use on a table though. I bought a cheap folding table for this stick alone and prefer using it on there by far. It just doesn't feel natural on my lap because of the way the VLX is designed. That's just my opinion though.

I still get sticker shock @ TE2s. Will Madcatz ever make another $150 range stick? I really don't need the LEDs in the TE2.

They set a new market price with the TE2s. I don't see the price coming down for a while.. that's what the Hori sticks are for (as long as you like the Kai layout)

I already have this preorderd from madcatz.com. Does anyone know if those are shipping out before April 16th? Also, does madcatz charge for shipping?

I'm wondering if I can get it from Amazon chapter with no shipping cost and 3% back with credit card. However Amazon charges tax in my state so it may even out either way.

If the madcatz order stays at 199$ I'll stick with that.

Shipping/tax should have be included with your order total. It comes out to around $221 give or take. At least my pre-order came out to that much when I checked out.

Nobody knows, a few of us have ordered the HRAP4 Kai from Amazon UK instead. If you need a PS4 stick soon you're probably best doing the same.

I would but I dunno, not sure if I want to spend £120 on a stick that I don't especially like the colour scheme of and would probably want to replace the buttons. :(

I had one of these preordered but canceled it a few weeks ago. I felt the price was too high this generation and honestly, not digging the design, especially the side panels. Makes it look like a cheap toy. Madcatz came out swinging back in 2009 when they introduced the original TE stick. IMO, every design since then they've come up with got uglier with a few exceptions. Not sure what happened but somebody needs to step up and deliver a quality looking stick this gen.
I have no problem paying good money for a great arcade stick but it has to be just that...great. This gen so far, the only one that has delivered that for me is Hori with the VLX,and thus they got $600 of my hard earned bucks...but even then if the paint wears off it makes me mad the quality seems to be dropping while manufacturers think they can charge even more for their arcade sticks. Inflation over 6 years shouldn't be $50 for some padding, a quick release button and "easier customizability" Madcatz. Don't get greedy or others might take their business elsewhere too.

The really sad thing about the side panels is that your only options for a clean, normal, sleek black look are:

1. remove them
2. paint them yourself
3. buy a limited edition stick for $3-400
4. wait and buy official side panels from madcatz at a later time.

^^^Agreed. It's almost as if Hori got pissed after Madcatz surprised them last gen with the TE and said "Nice, but we're gonna show you how it's done now" and made the VLX to say "that's how you make a Viewlix cabinet for the home" and then made the Fighting Edge to say "that's how you innovate with sleek design".
Madcatz on the other hand, floundered around after initial success and decided to be inspired by designs at FisherPrice or something....I mean God, those side panels man! That stupid ridge or indentation, the ugly grey Sanwas.... WTF Madcatz?

So it looks like Start/Back and the turbo button/controller no longer are working on my stick (Chun Li TE)....

Anyone have any ideas? I opened the front to see if everything was connected and it looked okay :/

Buttons and stick still work, and because I play SF4 on PC I can mash Enter for start.

You're not alone. Not a fan of the TE2 design either, and the price tag is high IMO.

I love my HRAP EX, so that's why I went with the Hayabusa Kai this gen. Not just on Hori's name alone, the good review of the Kuro stick helped. I have lots of spare OBSF-30 buttons, so the kuro buttons aren't an issue if I don't like them.

Hopefully it's a reliable fightstick.

Is the lock switch engaged?

All I want is this:

te_madcatz.jpg

but available in the UK for somewhere around £80 and functioning on both PS3 and PS4.

Seems like that's too much to ask for. :(
