Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Welp, after tonight, I learned never to buy a Razer stick lmao

I'm not sure why anyone would buy a Razer when you could get a TE2 for the same price, anyway.

Also I feel like Razer's refusal to make PS3/4 accessories is really going to hurt them this gen, if this embarassment wasn't enough.

How easy/difficult is it to customize the Kai 4? The TE2 is super appealing on that front, but if touchpad interfaces are going to be standard in fighters going forward, it seems like I'd want to wait and see if MadCatz did a TE3 or something.

Seems like a pretty big oversight on both sides.

Customize as in buttons and stick? With the current TEs, it's just a matter of flipping the lid, undoing the wires attached to the buttons and just swapping them. I don't know about the stick, I'll assume it's just a matter of unscrewing the thing, the wire harness and that's it.

For the Horis, the screws are at the bottom of the stick, swapping buttons are the same. As for the stick, I think others mentioned that you have to do a little cutting away here and there inside to fit a different gate?

I probably wouldn't have a need to replace the gate unless it's something nonstandard, good to hear the buttons aren't a problem.

What about custom art? Is the faceplate easily modded?

So now that the PS4 version of USF4 is going to be used from here on out on the Capcom Pro Tour, how in the hell are they gonna handle button reassignment from the character select screen? It requires a touchpad button, and you know that the majority of players are gonna be using TE2's.

prolly patch it

Yeah, I was about to say.

What does GGXRD use the touchpad for? If it's something minor I may as well buy a TE2 lol.
Maps to PS3's select, i.e. training mode reset, but Arc were smart and you can hit both function buttons to get that too. Not as handy but you don't lose any functionality.

Got the Hori Kai 4, and practiced over the weekend. It's my first stick, and, other than charge characters, I've transitioned to it already. Ordered Sanwa buttons already to replace these. Ordered a Sanwa balltop too, but I think the hayabusa stick feels fine. Anticipating being able to change the art soon, hopefully.

See you bruhs at Evo next year.

yeah, I definitely think USF4 PS4 is going to be patched to map button config/challenge commands to another button. Assuming SFV gets PS3 stick support, which hasn't been confirmed but probably will, I imagine the same thing will happen. That's why I really wasn't worried about the fact that the venom stick I bought doesn't have a touchpad button.

Ordered a HRAP4 Kai. I am just concerned about the input lag. Some folks are speculating that it has the same chip set as the VLX, which has 15ms input lag - a massive whole frame. Meanwhile, the TE2 has ~5ms lag. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I personally put zero stock into his test, and friends smarter than I am say his methodology is crap.

I have a VLX and a te2 if you want to try them out on a lagless monitor.

So I am getting a free X360 Madcatz TE stick. Can anyone let me know the cheapest/best way to get this working on my ps4?

So reading this correctly if i try to use the cronusmax with a wired xbox 360 hori stick on my ps4 there will be 1 second of every 8-10 minutes where I can't enter input? Aside from that it works?

I have a really nice hori that I enjoyed the hell out of for the xbox 360 but I don't think I have the budget to buy a nice fight stick for the ps4......the cronusmax seemed like a perfect but I guess not if it has a frustrating issue. I'm fairly tech savvy but not comfortable with padhacking. Any other cost effective solutions sub 100 bucks or am I stuck switching back to gamepad for SF5?

I don't know about the Cronusmax, but yes this is correct for the TitanOne. Pad hacks are another way to get this done, but it does take time and experience to do it.

There's another test that corroborates Teyah's results that I found when typing in TE2 vs Hori Rap Pro4 VLX, so I wouldn't completely call it bs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKDwS5cK2XQ Unfortunately, I don't know Japanese and don't know too much about stick electronics, but from what I gathered someone attached 1 button to both PCBs and when that button is pressed, should throw an input at the exact same time to both boards. In game, most of the time they come out the exact same frame, while sometimes the TE2 actually comes out a frame sooner and I never saw the Hori come out faster.

So is there anyway for me to use my 360 stick or my ps1/ps2 stick on my PS4?

Edit: Found some info on the 360 to PS4 and it doesn't sound good with the 8 min authentication issue. Perhaps I am better off waiting for the PC version since I know both of my sticks will work. :/

I would think the HRAP 4 Kai is more like the HRAP 4 and HRAP 5 than the VLX, which would be odd since the VLX is just the same thing in a different case. I know a lot of us question the methods being used on teyah as it's not really that scientific and doesn't perform any "real" measurements.

I have 2 HRAP 4 Kais, myself, and playing USF4 feels no different on my PC vs PS4 and 360. This being that the one frame behind the PS3 version is noticeable.

wait for PileBunker (above). it sounds like it will be a very good solution.

according to the guy who's selling this on Ebay, it does not need a wired PS4 controller connected to it and you don't have to reset the converter every 8 mins. I bought one and will keep you guys updated.

I do have the Xbox One version and it does in fact not require a wired controller for verification.

How do you want to customize it?

If you're just switching a stick or buttons, you just need to unscrew the button panel if it's like the V3 SA.

I think I've used your VLX before. Honestly, I can't tell 1 frame of difference. It's more about the idea that my input reactions will all be 1 frame behind while playing. Even if I can't feel it, it could impact my results a lot. I am not someone that is good at noticing frame differences in stuff.

I guess I don't see how he could be wrong, though. Put 2 sticks into one input source, trigger the input, and see how long it takes. Seems basic enough. I have seen SRK debating about it, and most folks there think the methodology is good. Even if the methodology is poor, would it be completely inaccurate? The only logical complaint I've had is that the rewiring could extend the input lag test reaction time, but if that's the case, all of the input lag measurements are just off, and the VLX is still going to be worse than a TE2. The differences should stay constant, right?

I would think the HRAP 4 Kai is more like the HRAP 4 and HRAP 5 than the VLX, which would be odd since the VLX is just the same thing in a different case. I know a lot of us question the methods being used on teyah as it's not really that scientific and doesn't perform any "real" measurements.

Well, my HRAP4 Kai gets here today, so I'll see how I feel about it soon.

Wait, since the TE2 lacks a touchpad, does that mean you can't reset training mode for games on PS4?

We don't know if there will be a touch pad shortcut in SFV, I think Xrd is the only one that uses one. I can't speak for MKX or the other games currently out.

USF4 on PS4 uses it for mapping controls on the character select screen and showing inputs during the Trials.

Yeah sorry, I meant it as a shortcut to bypass the touch pad.

True, but I don't realistically see the ps4 compatible version coming out soon. He walked me thru the whole thing at his EVO booth. He has xb1 compatibility because he is using a legit xb1 controller pcb which are the same as those ones you can buy on focus attack. He wants to do the same on the ps4 side but so far he doesn't have a reliable source for that. He mentioned things like 3rd party pcb's like the hori pads were something he was looking into but not the ideal, so we'll see.

Any of you guys ever replace the joystick on your TE1 for anything besides cosmetic reasons? I'm wondering if some of my execution problems are due to the stick just not being as crisp as it was several years ago since I almost exclusively play charge characters and ride the gate pretty hard.

Does anyone know when Madcatz is planning on shipping out these PS4 TE2s? I want to go ahead and upgrade with the SF5 beta coming. It says pre-order on the main page, but when I go through the motions it acts like I'm buying it right then. Says nothing about when it will actually be shipped.

I don't wanna slap down 200 bucks until I know.

Also, what would people say is the optimal way to sell a stick? I'll probably be getting rid of my 360 when I get the PS4 one.

Quick question, I was on the Mad Catz store and it says that they only accept orders in the continental United States. I'm in Canada and was wondering what my best option is for getting a TE2 in the great white north?

Do any sticks lag more on PC than they do on console? Trying to see if I should keep this in mind when I get my stick for SFV next year. (gonna need a PS4-compatible stick)

Is the input lag on a Hori Rap 4 (PS3/PS4) bad? As in is it noticeable?

Not to me. According to the test above at worst occasionally there's a 1 frame difference when an input will come out compared to other sticks. It has similar amounts of lag to the og TE sticks on ps3 and I don't think too many people complained about that when people competed at evo for years.

Thanks. Just for reference, does anyone know how many milliseconds in a frame?

MKX used it for the screen mode toggle in KOTH mode, but fortunately, that's been patched for awhile now. The biggest problem so far is that games have been shipping with the assumption that it exists, when it doesn't in some cases (at least the TE2 and the HRAP4).

According to that site there isn't a stick worth buying.

At the very least the results are misleading since they set one pcb as the control at 0 ms of lag when it really might have 20-40 ms of lag that all the other pcbs are adding onto. We don't really know. The categories for grades also seem arbitrary. There is a pretty long thread on the srk tech talk forum about the lag tests and I don't think there was ever a real conclusion.

I was just about to say the same thing.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/191312/how-much-does-your-arcade-stick-lag-arcade-stick-input-lag-testing-results-thread/p14

Read the last page at least because there are good arguments on why the test matters as well as why it doesn't. There's even a nice visual explanation depicting theoretically where lag might affect you in a frame (by Komatik).

Anyone know of a decent PS3 or 360 to Wii controller adapter? I'd love to set QisTopTier up with Tatsunoko vs Capcom but he pad warriors and thats not exactly a system with any good pad options. Any help would be appreciated.
