Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

None that stick out.

The stick/buttons on the Mayflash are pretty jank and it's a pain in the ass to mod good ones in there. If you want something that's good out of the box I wouldn't recommend it.

Finally got a stick for the PS4. Have been playing with a pad, but after a generation with my 360 TE it wasn't optimal.

Initially was looking at the PS4 TE2, but the price was ridiculous to either have imported to Australia, or to buy locally. Ended up going for the HRAP4 Kai since it was way cheaper, still can be customised with artwork thanks to Art's Hobbies, and it has the touchpad.

Ended up paying $220AU for the stick and expedited shipping which isn't too bad, when local pricing for the TE2 is around $350AU plus shipping.

I'm currently pretty happy with the stick and buttons. Noticably different to the parts in my old TE, but if it really bothers me I have a JLF and some Sanwa buttons from a previous stick build I could easily chuck in.

Gotta love VJ! I feel the balance in the middle portion (where buttons are) is off. The spacing between the top film strip and the buttons is too tight compared to the bottom film strip and the bottom buttons. The gradient definitely exaggerates it because it feels like all the visual weight is is up top. Have you tried no gradient and just a white background in that area?

Also yes, I know it's a template so the buttons have to go there, so play with the sizing of your elements.

Thanks for the input. Not sure what do with the strips, though. I was hoping I could keep both the same size. Part of the problem is that there is more space on the bottom than the top. Maybe I'll switch the top and bottom row, make the top row smaller, and add another character or two.

As for the gradient it's a work in progress. I'd rather not keep the middle part blank. I tried using the design of the city at first but it came out too busy and just decided to color it like the sky. I'll mess around some more with it.

I love that Mad Catz started selling different colored endcaps and bezels for their TE2 sticks.

Just finished putting all of that together! I used Sanwa buttons and balltop which ended up matching really well with the yellow endcaps.

I did some modifications with the joystick as well. Added a metal extender , 2 lb spring and oversized acuator. Stick is tighter than the stock stick but that extra length helps if you have large hands. Im 6'4 so ive always felt pretty crowded on a standard joystick.

That's hot.

I can't get used to the stick at all. Like it feels smaller than the SE stick I have which is weird since it seems like it's the same size/height but it feels like it's built for a smaller hand than mine. Maybe it's the "stick protector" plastic under the ball top that is to protect the metal of the stick that is throwing me off, I dunno. I kinda want to get a higher ball-top to where my hand can fit under it like the SE stick I have.

Still working on these. I'm never freaking happy with my own templates. The longer I work on them the more I want to change them.

TBH, the Mushihime Futari one looks good except the placement of the lever. I would either move that a bit or maybe change the art itself
to use Mushihime or just Reko only in general because Parm sucks

But really, looks nice either way. The DDP one looks a bit cleaner, too, thanks to the nature of the game's artwork.

This turned out great!

Anyone know if a Sega Saturn HSS-0130 arcade stick could house a 1 player Namco Cyberlead panel I have? I would want to make it a PS4 compatible stick primarily to use with SF V. I really just need it for the case if the measurements worked with the top panel.

with this?

Hey guys,

Is there a tutorial with pictures somewhere on how to mod my Xbox One Madcatz Killer Instinct stick with a HoriFC4 pcb ? I'd like that stick to be PS4 Only.

Thanks.

Posted about it before, but does anyone have any sort of guide or picture reference I could use for modding the Hori hrap 4 kai? Gonna install a PS360+.
Also, I've heard conflicting reports about needing specific usb cables when installing but I can't seem to find anything definite.

So, someone wanted to commission me to draw an Arcade Stick design. I have only a basic understanding of most Arcade Sticks but is it possible to find some pointers in regards to a certain template or how positioning ought to be?

For reference, I'm supposed to design for this stick.

Nice design. Maybe I should go for something like this.

I figured out the problem. They're too anime.

;p

I guess the second one has the character's head to close to the dust washer.

This should help you.

Question: is it a pain to desolder and resolder stuff? I'm totally new to this stuff but need to replace the pcb in my stick. The stick has a daughterboard for l2/r2/PS/select and it connects to the main pcb via approx. 1.5-2" wires, and I cut them shorter than I shouldve cause i was careless. The ends on the daughterboard are really short so I dunno if i'll be able to coil them up with other wires.

Hey guys, in what bag do you put your fight stick when you go to a tournament?

Will have my first tournament next weekend.

What's up with Qanba's next gen line? They said that they had some announcements coming soon during evo but there hasn't been anything announced yet.

Oh boy, I uses a lot of bags. Enough bags to make people, in some of most dangerous looking streets in Baltimore, MD pass 1 a.m., think that I was homeless looking bum.

Atm, I just use a sports bag and a rolling suitcase to move around my 4 V.S. fightsticks.

Progress. Lost the anime girl. Still need something special for the button labels. They look "meh" right now.

EDIT:
Hope people don't mind me posting variations of the same one so much, just want to get it to where I'm happy with it.

Played with making her top black instead of white as well as color vs gray-scale.

Also still messing with this.

I recently upgraded the CP for my DIY cabinet from a 6 button to 8 button layout.

Put the artwork together and had it printed on glossy photo paper:

Cut a new panel and sheet of acrylic and used aluminium trim along the upper and lower lengths of it:

Hacked a Madcatz fight pad (I suck at soldering):

Cut some aluminium L shaped trim for the lightbar moveslist retainers (sticky goo on these now removed):

I managed to source a coin slot:

Completed panel with everything in-place:

Attached to the cabinet:

I used a Hori RAP Travel Bag Pro for my VLX & V3-SA, when I went to the old LevelUp WNF events and past Evo tournaments.

Now I feel all inadequate with my custom job this afternoon...

HgrkxPL.jpg

Replaced the Kuros with Sanwas for the main 8 buttons (didn't feel the need to change the Options button) and added swapped in a 2lbs tension spring. The sticker attached to the plate was a bitch to get off.

It also bugs me that the pink Sanwa ball top is noticeably a different shade from the buttons, though the bottom quarter of it or so is the same color. The place I got it from said they were all like that, though. Got another one coming from Focus Attack, if it matches, great, if not, I'll deal.

Been about a year since I got a stick but I'm going to order a black Vewlix for Darius Burst. Will the LS-32 with the PCB fit into that one as plug and play? Out of the country so have no way of checking out my old stucks/parts.

Thanks to pointed family complaints over the noise of my heated KOF XIII bouts late at night, I just ordered:

http://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-jlf-tprg-8ayt-sk-silent-microswitch-joystick/
http://www.focusattack.com/buttons/sanwa/30mm/obsfs-30-pushbutton/

Sanwa silent stick and buttons

Have folks had any luck with these? The fam will get better sleep, but hope my game doesn't slip trying to hit corner directions on the stick T_T

There's a new silent HRAP, but figured try the $70 commitment over the $300 one since I already have the v4...
