Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I have the old Super Street Fighter IV 360 arcade stick, is this still suitable for modern play in Ultra SF4 and SF5 - should I consider button or stick replacements?

If you are playing SFV on PC it will be just fine, for PS4 not so well. As far as button/stick replacements, how much have you used it? I usually replace my joystick once a year and buttons every few years but I use my stick 3-4 days a week.

I'll give it a whirl on SF4 today and see how my buttons react - every year sounds like I may need a replacement, though.

What's up with PS4 support, is it not natively recognized? I also have the 2015 Guilty Gear Xrd, not supported on that, either?

Well PS4 won't ever recognize 360 sticks, but when it comes to PS3 sticks it isn't native. There's a driver that a dev can use to recognize PS3 sticks but only a few games use it. Skullgirls, MKX, and USF4 are the only ones right now, I think. Capcom hasn't said what SFV is going to do on that front yet.

wow, im having a hard time finding many options for USB mono wireless headsets. Logitech makes business class ones, but they will run you $120

ps4 + bluetooth is a bitch. you could try being helpful

This is the best I could come up with, but can't figure out if they're actually compatible with PS4. I'm going to try them and return if they don't work.

So what are the odds of the TE2+ (from Amazon) arriving day one alongside SFV? It's not the end of the world if I can't get it day one since I have another stick, but it'd be cool to start SFV with the new one.

Depends on when they ship. I believe they shipped out the SF4 sticks early and a few folks got theirs before SF4 even came out, but my memory is suspect at best.

What's the disadvantage to this over the ipac? Much cheaper, am I losing anything along the way?
Well one player vs two, and potentially easier or harder wiring (depending what you want, cause you need to use those little included blocks vs the screw in terminals on the IPAC), otherwise I'd guess IPAC has more software configuration support vs the cheap one presumably just being a standard USB controller.

Making some artwork for my stick. Which buttons come the closest to matching this color?

b466819e1d.png

html color code is 712b2b

Also, does anyone remember off the top of their head if the Q4's usb cable is soldered on or not? Ordering the universal fighting board later tonight but won't have access to my stick till the weekend. Would prefer to order them together if I have to. Thanks.

That that controller harness works on both PC and PS3 means that it'll probably register under Windows as a directinput device.

It's a loooooong time since I've looked at Spelunky, so it's possible that this has changed in the meantime, but last I remember it was pretty specific in only recognising xinput (360-compatible) controllers.

This probably isn't that big an issue, but it does mean that you'll probably need to be running Joy2Key or one of those wrappers that allows directinput devices to look like xinput ones on your PC is playing Spelunky specifically is your goal.

Just in case. Posted this on the sale thread. Asking $175 shipped.

Like-new Xbox 360 Razer Atrox with all black silent buttons and a black Silent JLF with extra kowal actuator. Mint condition. Maybe 40 hours use at most. Comes with original usb cable and Razer tool. From a smoke free home.

I have enough sticks, but I like the TES form factor, so I have to get one. Gonna sell a SFxT 360 stick for sure and maybe and maybe a Kai I'm not using much.

Anyone know the best place to buy arcade parts in Canada? I want maybe an ipac or that other interface thing and some seimitsu buttons. Getting this from an american store like focusattack is painful right now

just finished these, simple parts swap mods (full sanwa). accidental good photo taken.

What shells are those I really like that! Maybe I will use those instead! Any link or names please?

Hello. I have a Hori Rap4 Kai and I'd like to change the balltop only (I'm fine with the Hayabusa joystick itself) what is the proper size that would fit it if i'd like to buy a different color balltop?

Thank you.

P.S. : I already changed the Kuro buttons to GamerFinger ones with cherry blue switches

Edit: NVM found the answer I was looking for.

Canadian joysticks doesn't seem to have the ipac or the cheaper 12 dollar board thing. The only one I see there is a 99 ps360+ unless I am bad at searching. Darn.

If you look on eBay (I searched eBay Canada) there were a bunch of hits for "USB encoder"...granted it seems like they're all (or nearly all) from China/HK. And if you're going to buy from there, AliExpress might be another option, haven't bought anything myself there though. But if you search for "arcade USB encoder" it brings up the same stuff.

Edit-IPAC stuff shows up on eBay Canada too if you search for that, mostly from US sellers it seems, but I didn't check shipping or anything.

Some people have been asking about the inside of the MC Alpha Fightstick. Here it is: https://twitter.com/MarkMan23/status/690593694173376512

That's AFTER it's been modded. We still don't know exactly what we have to deal with to swap buttons:

"Mad Catz had one on hand that had been modified to use Sanwa buttons and stick. It's not a tall stick, and I was told that while the buttons are not directly attached to the PCB, the buttons are wired directly. That means more challenge than when using the quick connects."

Eh from those tweets a few days ago:
https://mobile.twitter.com/Gummowned/status/688225765469466624

From those and the picture in the article I'm guessing he just had to clip/unsolder the wires off the original buttons, put on quick disconnects, and attached them to new buttons (and bent the contacts down to fit).

Edit- Well one other thing from that picture, it looks pretty tight so I'm thinking that Brook multi PCB wouldn't fit without more work (in case you wanted to mod down the line). And another one of Gummo's tweets says no room for LS-56-01 for anyone curious about that.

i'm pretty sure any bluetooth headset intended for phones will work for chat on ps4. well that was how it was on ps3. you won't be able to get actual game audio from them though.

Jumping in here for a quick question. I'm a 100% newbie to all this, super-casual player, don't know what I'm talking about with any of this. Been playing Guilty Gear and MKX on PS4, gonna pick up SFV.

I recently picked up a Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4. It's okay, but the buttons feel kind of... mushy? I certainly didn't expect the feel of an arcade cabinet for 40 bucks, but it just doesn't feel that great to me. Is the Mad Catz SFV Arcade Fightstick Alpha assumedly going to be a pretty decent step up from this one? As a casual player, the $80 for that would definitely be around my ceiling. If it wouldn't be too much of a difference I'd probably just stick with this one.

So it looks like the alpha is out for me.

I was going to take my 360 TE parts (buttons and stick plus octo gate) and slap them into the alpha, but it looks like that won't work easily? I just want to open it up, pop in and pop out pieces as I'm scared of fucking it up. If it requires anymore than that then I'm out.

Blah.

One day I'll have the $200+ to get a new TE for my PS4. One day. ; ;

Unfortunately this isn't true. Many Bluetooth headsets that worked on the PS3 are not even recognized by the PS4. Turtle Beach, for example, had to start selling a cord to connect their wireless headsets to the PS4 controller to allow for chat (similar to how the 360 handled it). I don't even think the newer Turtle Beach wireless headsets connect via Bluetooth. I think they just package that cord with them standard now.

You can get some Bluetooth headsets working on the PS4 if you buy yourself certain dongles - https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/3dpx0d/how_to_use_an_unsupported_bluetooth_headset_on_a/

I personally just use a a Creative Soundcard I had from last gen if I'm playing something with a stick or my Hori Pad.

the easiest at this point would be to get some quick disconnects, wire, and a brook screw terminal PCB. This would still cost you about $100, but screw terminals are basically foolproof, and the only tools you need are a small flat head screw driver, and plyers

Depends what you're comparing to, like if you were expecting clicky buttons you're not going to get that with Japanese style sticks like the Mad Catz. But if you want more springiness or something it might be better, and worst case you could swap the buttons out.

Crimp connectors are simple and sounds like that's all you'd need, but if you already have a stick and controls, I'd say just get the Brook PCB too. About the same price and you wouldn't need to deal changing over to a completely new case (unless you want to I guess).
