Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I am using the ps3 version of this stick on my ps4 just fine

Quick question, what stick is this? I actually have this stick for 360 but I bought it off a friend and I think its modded since it has a Tatsunoko Vs Capcom artwork. But the button layout and spacing is the same so I think its the same model. Is it a MadCatz TE?

I'm mostly asking because I'm planning on getting the TE2 but if I can maybe dual mod my current one to also support PS4 that would be preferable to dropping $300 CAD for a new stick. But its hard to find info if you don't even know what exactly it is you have.

looks like the madcatz SE

Replacing buttons doesn't require soldering. The wires have a little metal piece that goes over the connector on the buttons and you just pull them off.

Really?, every guide i see are people de-soldering and re-soldering new wires to the existing PCB board to attach the buttons they want?

So i buy 6 Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons and not solder at all?

depends on the stick but yes most of the more expensive ones have quick disconnects

A Sega panel? Well the green shaft wouldn't fit in...and 6 green/2 pink doesn't exactly fit, but all the colors make sense!
Bingo! Astro City, to be precise:

Shaft cover will be coming off (it comes with the stick), the pink buttons represent two buttons from the 2P side of the panel. And the yellow is for the PS button on the stick, but because that's the only other one I can replace, it's the quasi-1P button.

Hoping it will come out okay!

Should this work with SFV? My friend can't seem to get it going.

I have 1 of those and they don't play nice with certain motherboards apparently (like mine) I heard if you get a USB hub it should work though.

Also obviously use a 3 party program as sfv doesn't recognize the type of input ps3 sticks put out natively ATM.

It is the madcatz brawl stick, which is the same arcade edition street fighter 4, and the same tatsunoko vs Capcom one. The stick is decent for the price, but after I replaced the parts, it is really nice now. You can replace all the buttons and joystick for sanwa parts for around 45 to 50 buck. I spent 48 bucks 5 years ago on parts, thestick itself cost me 30 bucks on a sale at gamestop, so the whole thing was 80 bucks, for a very decent stick with all sanwa parts. Can't beat that

Finally snagged a TES+ last night since someone at gamestop never came for their reserved unit. I like it a lot. I like it more than my xb1 TE2(killer instinct). I like that it is less bulky and more like my old SF4 stick from years ago.

Hori fighting stick 3 doesnt have quick disconnects

I have 2 of these and never opened em up. They're pretty nice enclosures. What sticks have people put in these? The boards can be swapped to a PS360+ and buttons swapped sanwa making it basically a pretty fantastic little setup, but I am fairly certain a JLF is too long.

Should look good! Alternatively you could try 4+4, whether two rows or uh, two L shaped Tetris pieces if that makes sense. Or get a blue button and copy the Virtua Stick:

does anyone have a resource they can point me towards to find a template to print new art for my madcatz sf4 TE round 2 stick?

Maybe not the best pics, but I recently put the finishing touches on my TE2. Felt the need to try some stick customization for the first time after the stock plexi was moving around and scratched itself and the art up.

Big shoutouts to Art's Hobbies for the Photoshop templates and for cutting the plexi/art/washer. Probably going to have to get some kind of shoulder pad for my makeshift chain shoulder strap though.

LOVE THIS STICK!

Any TES+ reviews yet?

I got mine yesterday. I put a couple hours into it so far. I am very pleased with the build quality, it's completely solid.

There are no rough or sharp edges (I previously had the Tournament Edition S). I also appreciate the padding on the underside.

Anything specific you'd like to know?

Touchpad and extra buttons are a godsend for training mode.

Build feels a lot more sturdy than the TE2. Buttons don't feel as mushy to press.

PCB for the touchpad and extra buttons get in the way of installing a Hayabusa :( .

OVerall, it's a super quality product, but it's pretty much the same as those that came before it. I am worried about the shadoloo stuff getting scratched up over time through use since there's nothing to protect it, but I'm not into reselling sticks, so not super important.

Got the alpha stick...these buttons are so jank. What do I have to do to replace them since they are soldered on?

Looking into modding my Hori Fighting Stick 3 (PS3)

I want to get;

Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate
Sanwa LB-30-N bat top

Is there a way to mod the buttons without soldering? (i don't know how to solder)

I did this. You absolutely need to desolder the old buttons from the board. You also need to bend the Sanwa button connectors due to them being too big. As for the bat-top, hmm, that I don't know. I did a full mod of a JLF to make it fit into the FS3 (which was also a bit of an experience, lol)

I actually used this guide:
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?179535-How-to-Mod-your-Hori-Fighting-Stick-Wii

FWIW, I didn't know how to solder either. I specifically learned how to do it (it's actually really simple if you're patient!) for modding my FS3 years ago.

Any info on the plexi?

I've got my first arcade stick arriving tomorrow, it's the one below and I was wondering if there was a there was a template available somewhere so that I can have a mess around with it as but background is in fine art?

I haven't read all the thread, for obvious treasons, so I may have missed a link on here somewhere.

Any info on the plexi?

The TES+? It doesn't have a clear plexi with art underneath. The smooth/glossy art surface is all one layer on top of the metal panel from what I can tell.

You could probably peel it off, and put art and a plexi (when available somehwere), but you likely wouldn't have a surface flush with the bezel. It was like that for the 360 Chun-Li TES. I have one and hated the textured lenticular surface. I peeled it off and it was just the metal panel undernetah. I replaced it with some art and a 1/32" plexi, but it's still raised a bit over the bezel, which I'm not crazy about, but it's better than that odd surface.

So for the TES+, I probably wouldn't recommend it if you want to change the art.

I ordered an hrap v hayabusa (the new one with the hayabusa matte buttons and the pc xinput switch). Does anyone know if i can just get an hrap v4 Kai plexi to replace the stock or am I out of luck for now?

What guide did you use for the JLF? Or was the one you linked all you need? I am ready to pull the trigger on new sticks+buttons for these little beasts but I keep reading that a JLF won't fit.

The more I play with it, the more I appreciate the lap-friendliness.

That same guide I linked also has how to modify the JLF to fit.
You will need a hand rotary tool (like a dremel) to do it however. If you don't have one, well they are relatively inexpensive (and always good to have for small projects).

That's perfect, thanks. Will definitely have a play with it at some point. Hopefully there is somewhere in the UK that does stuff like this.

Worst comes to worst you can get it printed at a local copy shop and do the cutouts for buttons etc yourself. I've done that for a few sticks.

So did madcatz utterly fail at estimating demand for the TE sticks for the PS4, or does it just take extra long to manufacture it?

Of course. It wouldn't be ideal for me but I may have no choice, unless I use one of the American companies and ship it over.

They have been conservative with stick releases for some time, which is understandable given their situation. For high-end niche stuff, it's hard to fault them if they didn't want to over-produce.

As someone who wants to get into Street Fighter V, is it worth the investment into the TE2+ or should I just get the Alpha for now? I'd also have to wait until after 2/28, according to Newegg for the TE2+, whereas the Alpha would ship now from Amazon.

Haven't tried the Alpha, but it was made to be an entry-level stick. Seems like it might be a bit on the small side, but otherwise fine. In the long run, the TE2+ has the higher quality/preferred parts, but the Alpha is probably a good place to start if you're unsure of whether or not a stick is for you. Plus, it sounds like the parts can be customized to some degree, but not with the same ease of the TE2s.

If I recall correctly not every usb hub will work though.

I can confirm this one with this via chipset works with a PS3 TE Round2. (works on PC, haven't actually tested on SFV but I'd bet it doesn't work).

my pic

Does your stick have any padding on the bottom? I was thinking on putting something on the bottom of the stick so it gets more comfortable while sitting on our lap. Any recommendations? Mine is just bare metal, geta cold at times

Since SFV just came out I thought I should share: here is my modded this Tatsunoko vs Capcom stick from about 4 years ago. After I botched the black spray paint I sanded down my mistakes and hid them with two colors of "hammered look" paint (black and metallic gray, applied by brush). I think it turned out OK. I swapped the joystick and buttons for Sanwa parts which made a significant difference from the OG parts in gameplay IMO.

I never used it much until now because getting the Bluetooth to work was a giant PITA. I just recently bought a Wii Classic to USB adapter and with joy2key running it's easier than ever to get in to SF. I'm having a blast even though I'm a scrub at these games .

Hello, everyone. I'm looking to pick up my first stick (mainly for SFV and some other PS4/PC games) and I was pretty much set on getting the updated HRAP IV Kai with the Hayabusa buttons, but then I saw that there's a new V Hayabusa model, which not too many people seem to be talking about. Is there any reason to go for the V over the IV? Bearing in mind I'm new to the fightstick scene? The only modifications I feel like I might want to make to whatever stick I buy is replacing the buttons with Sanwa buttons, but that's just going off player preferences I have read, since I haven't tried any buttons yet. Is the HRAP IV Kai still a solid purchase? Or would I be better off paying more and getting one of the two new MadCatz sticks? Thanks a lot for any input!

I've spent an hour or so trying the stick with different games and it feels really good but strange, I suppose it's just going to take time to get used to it.

Really like it although I do still prefer the Ryu stick.

Not keen on the fake 3D art so I am wanting to change that, has anybody seen a high res copy of the same art, but without all the logos and stuff?
