Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Okay, so the Hayabusa buttons are matte finish, low-profile and don't come in the standard Kai, correct??

Well, I just got my Kai today off Amazon ($149, so the regular one) and it somehow has the Hayabusa buttons. They are matte and low profile and totally different from the Kuros I have stored in a box upstairs.

How did this happen???

Amazon was out of stock. Is Hori now shipping new Kai's with Hayabusa buttons as well???

I am very, very happy. Skilletor, they are pretty dope looking but I have to run 'em on SFV to see how they perform.

da fuck, maybe I should've kept my Amazon preorder. the one I got from GS has the shiny buttons. dammit. maybe i'll return mine to GS and reorder with Amazon. man....

edit: reordered with Amazon for now since they're OOS again. this kinda bums me out cuz I wanted the one with the new buttons.

edit2: actually, i'll just keep the shiny buttoned one for my PC with shmups.

Is it possible to mod the Hori RAP4 with these buttons?

24622599223_eeb2c83a87_o.png

You could get some clear sanwa or seimitsus and cut these pictures out and put them in.

Oooooh. And print them off on transparency film with an led board lighting them up!!!

I posted those as proofs. I can get you the right size along with any color variation you like.

Oh I'm sorry, that mistake is on me. I would love those icons, and those colors are fine. I'm not getting my RAP4 until May/June though.

Are printers for transparent film cheap these days?

I'm still using the one I bought around the release of SFIV and it's excellent. Still in good condition and working like it did on day one. I'm not a hardcore player either, but it has gotten quite some use throughout the years. It also works fine with SFV on Steam (the Xbox 360 version), so that's another plus.

You're the man! Thank you. I should hopefully have this thing by Saturday.. looking forward to testing it out.

I'm fuckin pissed so I checked it out.

The microswitches are squeaky.... I'm just gonna deal with it and upgrade to silent jlf i guess. Not much we can do as mad catz prolly doesnt give a fuck.

I had this issue when I bought my Madcatz stick for SF4, it's due to dust build up in the micro switches (at least for me). I had to scrape off the dust in the micro switches with a q-tip manually before the squeak went away. If you seach "squeaky madcatz stick" in google, you'll find a lot of information on the subject, like this one:

It sounds like this batch of TE2+s are using some microswitches that were kept in dusty storage or something.

Is it easy to clean them out and does anyone have a good video showing how to open them up and clean them? If not, would it be smarter to just replace them? Seems like I can get a full replacement for the switches for around $12.

Just got my TE but about to head into work.. quick impressions. Amazon really came through, I know warehouse deals can be a crapshoot but for 88$ my TE came in a sealed box with minor wear on the corners.. I had to cut the seal, as far as I can tell the stick looks brand spanking new I can't find a single scuff on it, the surface was devoid of prints and everything feels responsive. I will dig into this tonight for some matches but I am REALLY happy with what I got for the price.. definitely lucked out.

if you're down to resolder them to the board, that should do it

Loving my RAP 4 Kai! I'm really glad I waited and got the Hayabusa buttons! I'm really satisfied with my purchase. I can plug it into my pc and play via xinput, the stick is comfortable, the lever is fantastic, and I LOVE the buttons! Hori really stepped it up with this release and for 150, managed to make a better deal than what Mad Catz is offering.

I got a quick question for you guys. Anyone know a nice easy fix for Sanwa squeaky stick? I'll link a video I took of it below.

https://youtu.be/1NkrTrBh62U

Does the kitty come with the stick??

Tyvm for replying. Do you guys have a Mad Catz TE2 (+) as well? I can't seem to find the exact weight of the TE2.

I'm undecided between the VLX and the TE2, if the TE2 is just marginally lighter in weight I might just get the VLX, the build quality looks to be better.

I don't own a te2 but i've used it several times.

The VLX is without a doubt much heavier. The build quality is fantastic but I was sad to hear about how it's performance is in terms of lag in ms. Personally going to get a TE2+ as the biggest factor I went with VLX the first time is because of the integrated touch pad. Glad to see madcatz finally came around to adding that to their sticks.

If you're planning on playing VLX on a table though, that stick is a treat. Really feels like the arcade at home because of it's size.

You got lucky. The TE1 PS3 is trading into Amazon for that right now in acceptable condition. $109 for a minty one.

Stick thirst is real.

Yep, just place them along with the right button placement and you're good.

If you want specific colors let me know. I can do a quick recolor to fit whatever style you want!

Do you need any specific info from me?

I'll be going out to get the clear film printer, and I assume I can order transparent Sanwa buttons somewhere?

No worries dude. You're fine.
As far as transparencies go. There are clear plastic sheets you can buy for home silkscreening kits.

I don't remember if they work with inkJets or laser printers. But you can do week from home. But I'm not sure if you can print color on them or just black ink. However if you're going the LED route. Black ink would work best I guess.

I'd be interested in this. Only less pastel-y colours.
It's funny. I took the official colors off a screencap. What colors are you looking for? A page back or two I uploaded a picture of a few other color variations.

Apparently focus attack is a good online shop. If my eyes don't deceive me. You can get full clear buttons. Or colored buttons with a clear cap on top.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I'm new to this too.

I officially purchased my stick. TE2 chun-li edition.

OMG This modded RAP4! He did his own artwork, so I'm going to do mine!

I'm going to get to work on my new template. I can't do the other one because the Hayabusa buttons which are completely black. I wish it were possible to have buttons painted.

Woah, looks so beautiful. How did he get art on his RAP4?

I'm gonna check out focusattack, thanks for the link! They don't seem to have any transparent in stock currently though. Maybe I should go for x3 blue, x3 yellow and x3 red transparent buttons if they have that in Sanwa.

PS: I have always wondered, what those turbo buttons on the RAP sticks do?

That's the kinda stick I'd use exclusively to play CDi Tetris

Gives me hope that one day we'll move back to the shitty CDi video game experience

Those colors look great

Still wondering what theme to go for on my stick and hitbox :/
Might go for a Dreamcast from Sega Hard Girls theme or an Ulala theme. Maybe a Yotsuba theme for my Hitbox.

Fucking great, the te2+ template from madcatz isn't even aligned properly.

I should've just done a solid color instead of having black holes for the button and stick placement.

Out of the 5 sets of images, only one is usable as it's just black and white. Fuck.

Thanks for this. I will probably give this a go or just switch it out with a Hayabusa when they're back in stock.

I checked my TE2+ gate and microswitches for dust and grime... There is nothing, they are perfectly shining and new yet they still squeak. Waiting for my Crown 303-FK to arrive anyways...

Damn what! Thanks for the heads up on this. I guess its best to print the full image (without button placements) then place the plastic on top and slice it huh?

I have to check the other psd file I've got. Might've been from art's site. I'll see how both files compare.

edit - using both, I guess whoever did my print fucked up. Time to give 'em a call.

How do you open them up to check? Hm, if the microswitches are fine I wonder what the issue could be, especially considering this seems to be really common.

Is this a white stick or painted? Looks fantastic. I'll be hitting up tek for plexi+art when I get a design.

Probably end up selling off the 'busa buttons to fund Sanwa. Considering you cant buy the busa buttons, I'm sure I can do a swap for Sanwa cash wise.

I had a look at my stick's microswitches and there was some dust on the red plastic buttons. Cleaned it off with a q-tip but the stick is still squeaking...

During lunch break I decided to make my own Hrap stick art using my own art. I like the white paint on that stick above and want the same paint for the shell.

This is only a basic rough, but I want to go with this idea. I used the original image to give off a feeling of what it'd probably look like. Also helped with creating a template for the button and stick placement.

You sure the printer isnt doing some scaling of its own?

Seeing all of these sticks with conjoined circle layouts around the buttons just makes me want to do a stick-mod based on Rhythm Tengoku.

Maybe get Karate Joe on it, black and yellow/orange buttons, man it would be slick but I don't think I can go that far for my very first stick, especially since it's not like I'm gonna be traveling to tournaments or anything anyway.

Maybe just upload something in the mad catz te2+ button scale that's able to be edited? I wouldn't mind playing around a bit to see what colours I would want. If it's not too much trouble that is.

thanks, this helped but i'm still hearing it a touch.

will try a bit of grease later. hope that does it.

Got another one of 'em brand new squeaky TE S +. Can't test it right now but I'm pretty sure it squeaks in every direction which is a bummer. Haven't opened it up yet, just wondering if it's pretty clean to do? Other than that though, really like the look of the stick...

Woaaaaaaah that is gorgeous! Will those Art's decals/plexis fit on the HRAP5? I want pretty much exactly this! I assume you just need to remove the shell and spray paint it white to get this look?

UPS comes through with the clutch late delivery! Got my brand new HRAP 4 Kai, lo and behold it does turn out to be the Hayabusa button revision. Comparing it all to my sister's old Madcatz TE is turning out to be more interesting than I originally expected.

I've always been a little skeptical about people being picky about the "feel" of buttons on a stick, but even just tooling around with these two before booting up the game I understand a lot better what folks mean with it. The Hayabusas are lower-profile but it also feels to me like they slide with a bit more resistance; I get the "snap" that people talk about with the Sanwas in comparison.

Gonna give this a few days to get a feel for, but I may be more tempted now to pick up some Sanwas to replace them if I can't adjust to the different feel (as well as injecting the stick with some color).

we expect some detailed stick lag tests. jk

I'm going to try and open up/clean the microswitches tonight to see if that helps the squeaking, but I don't wanna accidentally ruin anything since I've never done this before. I tried looking online for some videos of a microswitch being opened and found nothing, so does anyone have any instructions/tips for how to open and clean those things?
