Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Damn, long weekend here and no delivery from Akishop. Damn :( That would make it about a month on Tuesday since I ordered.

I bought a stick from Akishop based on what I heard about them from here and I am not impressed so far. Order placed 2/26, "shipped" 3/5, tracking number shows the packaged delivered to some guy in New Jersey (I'm in Virginia), I e-mail them about it 3/7, they respond saying they'll check with the shipper, didn't hear anything, so I contacted them again yesterday asking about it and haven't heard anything yet.

That's a bummer. Do they have a phone number to call?

Finally got my sanwa buttons in! The stock Kuros were okay but I'm really liking the slightly longer throw and more tactile feel to these, plus I gotta have my neo geo colours!

Still waiting on my FocusAttack silencer rings in the mail, but figured I might as well break these in without them while I wait!

Shit. I didn't get tracking, either :/

They e-mailed me back last night saying they were going to talk to the shipper in 2 hours, and when I woke this morning I had a new tracking number. So hopefully I'll have this stick Friday or Monday. I've completely avoided SF5 so far because I didn't want to use the PS4 controller.

Good to hear. What stick did you get?

Finally replaced the KURO buttons in my Vewlix HRAP4 with some white Sanwas. Makes a world of difference. They feel more consistent when you press down, and the shape is a little bit better for my liking.

I also replaced the balltop to match. Then played 3 straight hours of GG Xrd.

The HRAP V Hayabusa. Originally, I was planning on getting (and even did order) a TE2+, but the shipping delay, and particularly the reports of inconsistent build quality, had me looking for alternatives. I've owned very little in the way of arcade sticks before (some Saturn one I got used back in the day and no longer have and a Neo Geo AES stick) so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on something new and higher grade than what I've used.

Got some white buttons and a white balltop

Had to use a lot of force to get the buttons to snap in though, kinda worried I may have broken a few of them. That and plugging the cables in, the little housing with the pins jutting out would kinda move inward on one side with a couple.

All that aside, I think it looks nice. Ended up ordering some red buttons to cause I wanna see if they can make the red balltop I bought earlier work lol

Hmm. I might email them as well, especially concerned after I saw (a number of years ago) on SRK living in AU who received a shipment after a week or two :/

Edit: Just checked, it was marked as being shipped on the 29th Feb. Maybe two-ish weeks isn't unreasonable to expect it to be shipped (although I think they marked it as shipped a few days after it was, according to them).

lol i just keep my hands clean and clean the stick with a microfiber cloth after each use. Also keep it covered so it won't collect dust.

I should carry a microfiber cloth with me. Let a couple of people borrow my stick at a local for SFV and it felt gross after.

Did you... break into my house?

Heh, all joking aside, I just did the same button configuration on my Vewlix HRAP4 by pulling the white Sanwa balltop/buttons from my HRAP3 Kai, which looks very similar to yours. Even left the two black buttons on the right, but I did swap the Start button for a white one.

And I also felt like I had to cram those buttons in. Don't worry about it. I think it's due to those very small bumps (not the tabs) near the lip of the Sanwa button. If nothing else, it'll keep them secure in there.

Ah, was kinda worried, good to know. I initially tried a red balltop setup but, without the buttons to match, it looked silly so I went with white. Also, you got a HRAP4 vlx? I'm jelly lol

Well, I have two HRAP3's (one Kai and one N3) but neither is compatible with my PS4. Had to get something that'll last me the generation. The Kai is a great arcade stick if it's anything like the HRAP3 Kai I own, and definitely not as heavy as the Vewlix (which has its pros and cons).

Actually, on that topic, what are my best options for getting my N3 up and working on my PS4? Swap the board? USB dongle? In some respects, I like it better than my Vewlix and I'd love it if I could use it on PS4 along with my Vewlix.

Does anyone know a way to force the Madcatz Xbox TE2 stick to DP? There is no hard switch to change the setting on these sticks. Looks like it's default is set to LS.

The directional inputs get stuck for 1 second when you change directions because its acting as an analog stick with sensitivity and dead-zone (not a hard-on hard-off switch like a d-pad).

microfiber towels are effective in keeping arcade sticks clean.

get the ones that absorb oily residue. it will help keep your sticks from gathering grimey stuff.

shower.

Got my buttons and stick! Few things with the Venom (and I guess Mayflash v2):

*The holes on the joystick didn't line up on the plate with the panel, but noticed the four screws that attached the plate to the joystick itself matched up with four OTHER screws. So that's how it's attached.

*The PS button is NOT 24mm, so the yellow 24mm button I bought is basically useless. Deciding whether to file out the hole or try and find out what size button it actually is... I'd guess 20mm, but don't know if that's a standard size or not.

*The existing joystick is soldered/wired in, and I didn't buy a loom! So had to solder the wires on the new Seimitsu. Thankfully, this wasn't too much of a pain in the arse, just annoying.

*I haven't tested it yet, but the buttons feel nice and surprisingly, more quiet than I was thinking.

Happy to see that it looks kinda boss anyway, before having put on the Astro City artwork :)

I'm thinking of downsizing my stick collection, one of which is a Persona TE2. I've been looking on ebay and amazon to figure out how I should price it, but what people are asking for seems insane to me. Do these actually sell at $300+?

So I traded in my TE2+ for a TES+.

I like the smaller size better. And no creaking, haha.

I do wish the buttons/stick were moved up more, for more palm space. That damn touch panel is so big.

And the lower right corner screw is right under my wrist. Sucks. Just gonna take it out.

I can take measurements if somebody needs it.

Apparently, the art is rare. It's insane.

What are my options for getting the HRAP3 N3-SA running on my PS4? The stick and buttons and heft of the board feels right at home for me. Perfect arcade stick for sitting it on your lap when you're playing with buddies on the couch. I feel bad neglecting it to the "when I occasionally boot up the PS3" pile when it has been my mainstay stick for the past 2 1/2 years.

Edit: didn't realize the pic was so oversized. Sorry.

The brook universal fighting board? It's a PS4/PS3 and Xbone/360/pc pcb. iirc, they make a usb adapter/converter as well

Stick is good. I had one for a short time, but I gave it away. I replaced the main PCB with a VLX ps4 PCB. I still have the pinout of the turbo panel.

Huh, kind of surprised about the PS button - I used a 24mm Seimitsu screw-fix button (a PS-14-DN-K, to be exact) to replace it, and it fit perfectly.

As for the joystick wiring, I think most folks by a JLF or a -01 series Seimitsu (or a Hayabusa, though, boy, that's a tight fit) and a 5-pin to 5-pin harness cable - there's actually an unused 5-pin socket on the board the joystick wires plug into that's the standard common-ground connector a lot of sticks use. I guess re-soldering the cables works just as well, though!

I'll look into it. Thank you for the info. I'd prefer a USB adapter as long as there aren't issues of lag.

Yeah, it's my favorite stick in terms of overall weight, orientation, and size. Vewlix is better for sitting on a coffee table, though. I don't like how the Kai slopes the near edge of the stick (although I understand why they do it). The large, flat top of the N3 is really, really nice.

I have a Madcatz SE from the original street fighter 4 launch for 360 and read about someone getting it working on PS4 with a mayflash adapter. Does anyone have any idea what kind of lag I would be looking at, I'm playing on a hori fight commander 4 pad now and looking to see if switching to the stick with adapter would improve my speed.

Not sure about mayflash, but I know that there's a brooks adapter. According to some tests done here, it adds about 28 ms of lag. However, there are a lot of people arguing that it's not really accurate.

Wow is the creaking that bad? I own a TES+ and I love it, but all I ever seem to see at tournaments and streams etc are TE2+ - Where's the love!?

I had both but returned the TES+ because I actually felt the build quality was poor compared to the TE2+.

Plus, my goodness, there is like no room for your right palm. The buttons are way too close to the bottom.

I ordered a second TE2+ to replace it.

There is some creaking on the TE2+ when opening/closing the hinge or moving the unit around. But playing on a somewhat stationary surface feels extremely solid and even better than my SFIV TE Round 2. I really love the TE2+ and feel like it's the best stick I've ever used.

The TES+ is my first stick so I have nothing to compare it to :p when you say the build quality is poor compared to the TE2+ in what way?

I'm not a fan of where the touch/turbo panel is on the new TES at all, but the earlier mock ups looked really nice. It's too bad the touch pad wasn't put on the back w/ start/select.

Yea. The touch panel is not positioned well on the tes. And it did crack it open and it seems to be be the old te case still. Everything is jammed in there. The lack of palm space cause of the panel is a bummer.

The main reason I went with the TES+ was due to the alleged creak that a fair few people complained about on the TE2+ - it seems like a £200 item shouldn't creak :p my palm sits on the plexi / the edge of the stick and it feels fine, granted I've not played for more than 2 hours in a session with it. I'm curious to see how the TE2+ feels now.

Hearing that he TE2+ has a better build quality than the TES+ is a new one though!
