Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

So I know I should buy Sanwa buttons for my stick, but what about the joystick itself? There are a lot of options and I don't know what to buy

Depends what you want, really. There's no right answer.

Sanwa JLF the the default for most people. It's the loosest option but is what is used in many JP arcades. If you ever used a MadCatz stick, this is the default for that.

Seimitsu LS-32 is the default for VS City arcades and feels stiffer than the JLF

Seimitsu LS-40 has a very short throw and engage distance and is pretty stiff feeling

Crown 303A is the tightest stick and has a fast return to neutral but is a bit of a pain to install in most sticks as it requires special wiring

Hori Hayabusa is a nice stick with reduced throw/engage distance but remains a bit looser like a JLF

There are other options but those are the most common. If you have people you play with, it may be best to check out their sticks and see they feel to you.

Looks like some other sticks will be on sale too:

Before people laugh at the Razer, that may end up being a pretty good deal. Just replace the PCB with a Brook and you've got a solid stick. If those go for really cheap, it may be worth looking at.

i have a hori rap 4 with an octagonal restrictor gate
https://www.focusattack.com/kowal-hayabusa-octopus-octagonal-restrictor-plate/

the octopus,

then i bought another fightstick which came with a JLF joystick and i bought an octagonal restrictor gate, but is not like the octopus
and i can't insert the octopus in the JLF joystick, and i cannot find a similar gate that fits with the JLF joystick

am i not looking well? or does not exist a similar gate for the JLF joystick?

That would work perfectly!

I may be misunderstanding the question, but if you want an octagon gate for the JLF, you'll want this bad boy: https://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-gt-y-octagonal-restrictor-gate/

Thanks man!

Wtf is it with arcade parts stores and stupid shipping costs? Why am I being charged 3x the price of the item for shipping?

I'm EU and constantly (and I do mean constantly) order stuff from the UK, Germany, Canada/US, Hing Kong and Japan and have never seen anything like this... 12£ shipping on a super small £3 part? Just... Why? Oo

Shadaloo seems to have the most forgiving prices for shipping so I guess I'll take it... Not like I have any other choice... *sigh*

Oh God, I didn't bother scrolling left.

Does anyone know of any other American online retailer that sells Sanwa 30mm plungers on their own other than Focus Attack? They sent me the wrong color when I ordered some recently, and now the color that I had selected in the first place is sold out.

I'm looking for six light blue sanwa 30mm plungers.

Arcadeshock is saying they'll have a deal on the Hayabusa at evo.

Hope it's not too tempting, because carrying a VLX back from vegas would suck...lol

Do it.

I was expecting more from the Amazon Prime deal on the VLX Kuro though. $240 is a pretty decent price for it but was expecting something a little more since they are probably trying to get rid of stock for the VLX Hayabusa.

That can't be the case as the VLX Hayabusa went on sale earlier today for the same price before selling out in 45 seconds.

Okay, so just got my Eightarc/Quanba Drone. Some quick impressions:

It's ridiculously light. Wow.

It's actually a *good* small size, not tiny like the Hori Mini or the Madcatz Alpha. Reminds me of the OG Madcatz Fighstick SE in that regard.

Slick looking. The slanted arm rest doubles as the USB storage as there is a small hollowed nook where the rest overhangs and where it meets the base. Overall, a good use of the real estate with a minimalist design. Oh, and slip grips on the bottom.

On to the important stuff: the stick feels awful. Flimsy, loose and mushy. Yuck. It's not even a better stick than the stock Hori's on the old DoA sticks for the 360, or the Dreamcast Green Goblin.

The buttons are at least serviceable. Nothing too terrible, but yeah, you'll want to replace them.

Now, I have yet to open it up, but to my disappointment, I just saw an Iplaywinner review that showed the stick is not 5-pin but wired in. So extra work for modding is needed. YMMV with that depending on experience. For me, I have never done that so it's a pain.

The buttons are normal QD's at least.

So that's it for now. Probably will put it through its paces with Balrog in SFV Training Mode.

Thanks for the impressions, bob_arctor

I wonder if the Carbon had the pin pin connector now. Considering it's based off the Q1, I would assume so, but after hearing about the Drone, I'm not so sure.

Is it possible to mount a Brook PS3/PS4 Fighting Board (not the Universal board) without a breakout board? What appears to be the screw holes appear very small (like, 2mm-ish?)

How about with the Brook 360 to PS4 converter? Anyone have experience with those?

They work perfectly, I use one for my Elite controller when I'm playing Destiny and Overwatch.

That being said, what notworksafe said is true, the PCB inside the stick is the culprit for disconnecting, so replacing it would be best.

Aside from some sanding, I'm done all the main wood working parts of my Project Diva controller.

Soon I'll do the staining, and then after that clear coat, then button installation + soldering and I'm done! If everything goes well I should have it up and running by the weekend.

Okay so I went ahead and opened up the Drone. There are just six screws in the back so easy to do.

The shell is two halves and is attached inside by two connections which you can unattach to work on the shell half with buttons, which is what I did. The connections are like the 5-pin ones, so they come off easy.

The wiring is super cramped and so are the buttons! In fact, the triangle button rests super close to the PCB, so to get it out takes some finessing to get to the tab to push it in. Other than that, quick disconnects, standard stuff. I threw Sanwas in, fit no problem. I changed up the color scheme a bit, putting 2 yellow buttons on the inside for Square and X, and kept the rest black.

The stick is indeed harnessed in. And here is my question to Stick-GAF:

If it is a JLF clone, which it probably is, should I be able to put in a Sanwa 2-pound spring without issue? If I can do that to get much needed stiffness/tension, I can be satisfied and not have to swap out the whole stick altogether seeing as I never did the harness variety.

Edit: okay, so I can dash>Gigas pretty consistently on this stick but charge characters will be a problem without mote tension.

I know one can daisy chain a ground, but is it possible to daisy chain a positive?

What I'm wondering is, is it possible to create a chain to power multiple 5v LEDs off a single VDD_5v to illuminate buttons?
