So I know I should buy Sanwa buttons for my stick, but what about the joystick itself? There are a lot of options and I don't know what to buy
Depends what you want, really. There's no right answer.
Sanwa JLF the the default for most people. It's the loosest option but is what is used in many JP arcades. If you ever used a MadCatz stick, this is the default for that.
Seimitsu LS-32 is the default for VS City arcades and feels stiffer than the JLF
Seimitsu LS-40 has a very short throw and engage distance and is pretty stiff feeling
Crown 303A is the tightest stick and has a fast return to neutral but is a bit of a pain to install in most sticks as it requires special wiring
Hori Hayabusa is a nice stick with reduced throw/engage distance but remains a bit looser like a JLF
There are other options but those are the most common. If you have people you play with, it may be best to check out their sticks and see they feel to you.
I may be misunderstanding the question, but if you want an octagon gate for the JLF, you'll want this bad boy: https://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-gt-y-octagonal-restrictor-gate/i have a hori rap 4 with an octagonal restrictor gate
https://www.focusattack.com/kowal-hayabusa-octopus-octagonal-restrictor-plate/
the octopus,
then i bought another fightstick which came with a JLF joystick and i bought an octagonal restrictor gate, but is not like the octopus
and i can't insert the octopus in the JLF joystick, and i cannot find a similar gate that fits with the JLF joystick
am i not looking well? or does not exist a similar gate for the JLF joystick?
That would work perfectly!

Looks like some other sticks will be on sale too:
Before people laugh at the Razer, that may end up being a pretty good deal. Just replace the PCB with a Brook and you've got a solid stick. If those go for really cheap, it may be worth looking at.

Checked Amazon at 7:41am to buy the VLX, and could only get on the wait list.
7:40 am. I wonder what kind of discount we are talking though
They had three. They were gone in 45 seconds.Yikes. How many did they have available?
20% off (a savings of $60) apparently

and for those looking for just PS4/3/PC support the cheaper Brook board means you are looking at less than $150https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHF3NS6/?tag=neogaf0e-20
$80 for this stick isn't bad at all, swap out for a Brook PCB and you're set for under $200
I wonder how fast the VLX Kuro will sell out
Arcadeshock is saying they'll have a deal on the Hayabusa at evo.
Hope it's not too tempting, because carrying a VLX back from vegas would suck...lol

Do it.
I was expecting more from the Amazon Prime deal on the VLX Kuro though. $240 is a pretty decent price for it but was expecting something a little more since they are probably trying to get rid of stock for the VLX Hayabusa.
That can't be the case as the VLX Hayabusa went on sale earlier today for the same price before selling out in 45 seconds.
Is it possible to mount a Brook PS3/PS4 Fighting Board (not the Universal board) without a breakout board? What appears to be the screw holes appear very small (like, 2mm-ish?)
yea you can I have it mounted in my TE-S using that screw hole

Finally snagged a black bezel! Mad Catz functions like such a mom n pop operation. Ordered it from Amazon and it came in a makeshift box with the name of a person as the sender lol
It will work with that, but the disconnecting issue is a problem with the PCB. If you want to 100% remove that problem you'll need to replace the PCB.How about with the Brook 360 to PS4 converter? Anyone have experience with those?

Are there disconnecting issues when using an old 360 TE1 Rd 2 with the Brook converter?
@bob_arctor if it looks like JLF clone, the spring should be fine.
I know one can daisy chain a ground, but is it possible to daisy chain a positive?
What I'm wondering is, is it possible to create a chain to power multiple 5v LEDs off a single VDD_5v to illuminate buttons?
