Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

So I just got a couple of questions...

These convertors (primarily the Xtokki) aren't known to have lag are they?
I personally haven't tested Xtokki's converter, but it worked well with an Inpin and TC3 (Ps2 to DC) :)

Whats a fair price to be paying for a used, though looked after HRAP 1 or 2

This is really tough, they were never released outside japan, more likely you will resort to importing.
HRAP 2's especially have an illogical 'rare collectible' pricing attached to them, if you look at Rakuten/Yahoo!AuctionsJapan "buy it now", the HRAP2's are well over 12,000yen, while HRAP 2SA's are almost 20,000yen. HRAP1 and other variants ("Liscenced" HRAP) fare over 10,000yen. Most of these are "Boxed/Like New" though.
These prices are rape and mostly due to scalpers/hoarders sadly. But hey they are "new" lol.

If you see a used one for auction, its gonna be roughly 5000yen up to 9000yen.
I was lucky enough to win an auction on my first HRAP2 for a little over 7000yen, but then total for proxy & shipping cost me 9000yen. it's silly.

If you're lucky, you can find ebay/forums/etc sellers, A good price would be $140 US including Shipping or less in my opinion. That's how much I got my second HRAP2 (pictured above) for.

How easy are they to swap sticks and buttons on? Compared to say a HRAP VX-SA where all the buttons are quick release and you can just unplug the stick. I'm hoping there is no soldering required basically?

Both joystick and buttons are connective through quick-disconnects, so it's pretty much just swapping em in, easy.

I just love the design of these sticks - I wanna keep it stock in appearance and pop in a LS-32-01 and most likely just leave the sanwa buttons(they are sanwa OBSF-30's aren't they?) for some pure shmup heaven.

the classic HRAP's all have HORI buttons unless noted (SA or SE).

Good luck hunting! I'm currently on the lookout for a HRAP1 (green + black) myself, it's hard haha.

edit- ANYONE tried those custom Madcatz TE side panels yet? specifically the clear smoke ones, im curious how well they look with the black case hehe.

I see there's an HRAP1 on ebay (green buttons, non-mirror surface). Pretty pricey at $80 + $60 though.

Cheers for that! Unfortunately it seems I won't be able to mount my favoured LS-32-01 into the HRAP1 so thats a pass for me.

Nope. They're reliable and lagless (or close enough to be recommended by SRK's Tech Talk).

Awesome!

Words can't really convey how badly i'm lusting after one of these HRAP2s right now... I hope i'm going to be able to buy one soon or I might just lose my mind -__-

I just saw that you wanted to use an HRAP 2 with it. While it'll probably work, you should probably look into whether or not that converter is compatible with that stick. There are sometimes issues with certain converter/stick pairings.

Found this on tumblr, thought it was cute

I would so make a 1-button Mars Matrix themed stick, lol.

the madcatz soul calibur stick has red and blue sides, ship colors, go. haha, i have 7 hole plugs if you want.

Did anybody pick up the PDP Injustice stick early? Someone posted up a quick video on it. Not sure what components are inside.

It glows though!

"very light" :(
LED's arent "activate on press" either, but that would have been costly I guess.
really curious about the insides as well :)

Can someone recommend a good site for making custom plexies?
I wasted 1 hour of my life checking ArtHobbies before giving up. I've never seen a site with an interface that terrible -_-

got this for 140 from RoDcHaN off SRK

functionally, it works perfect. dual modded with a TE kitty and LEDs are hooked up to a sparky jr PCB.

my only gripe with the stick is only the three kicks light up. i'll be able to work on it over the weekend though.

The clear/smoke ones have been our most popular ones so far !
Any chance we'll see a colored clear one sometime or are those going to stay exclusive to certain sticks?

Regardless, I might still buy the solid one (or two, just for different colors on each side).

PS360+ and neutrik jack should be arriving tomorrow, then I get to do some much-wanted work on my TE to reduce the wiring mess that is in there by default as well as add function to it.

For those that do customs and have the awesome wiring where the ground is just that one thin wire going between each button, what do you use for that? Just a thin wire wound through a loop of each button? What kind are you using in general?

Madcatz should just go full on build-a-stick, and let you pick your top panel, buttons, lever, side panels etc., and ship it just the way you want. I'm sure it's be a logistical nightmare, but damn it, it's what I want. Make it happen Markman, I have buckets of cash!

well a more sensible way I think for them to sell the individual TE main parts separately, with a strict "for advanced users only" warning. they've already started with the side panels and bezels, so all we need are: metal top+bottom panels, two halves of the TE shell. haha.

If nothing else works, try flipping the quick disconnects at the ground strip. When I did my LED mod, I had the "only 3 kicks" problem because I was using a tutorial for a normal TE and the ground strip in my MLG pro is flipped from the way it is in a normal TE.

thanks for the tip!

i'll try it out when i get off from work. i had to read through his post history to find out exactly what he had trouble with and it seems like he did everything except what you suggested.

I'd be totally cool with that. I just feels like a waste to buy a stick knowing I'm going to throw half of the pieces of it in a closet. Better to get the exact stuff I need right off the bat.

some of us would like the other half of the same color. haha.
Just buy two sticks :)
Oh wait, you'd just end up with two left panels of one color and two right panels of the other color haha. Whoops!

Oh I forgot to reply to this post. It's the Dell method haha.

Anyone use/have a qanba q4 or eightarc fusion that they can provide feedback on? My first gen TE stick is constantly crapping out now due to a poor dual mod that was performed on it at SCR. I want a stick that's dual modded out of the box since its cheaper and retains its warranty.

They're both really convenient for tournament players because a lot of different tournies run on different consoles. They're well-built and look pretty nice. They use the same parts as pretty much any other high-quality stick.

Yes, it can be replaced with Sanwa buttons and most Sanwa sticks.

They are QanBa parts, stick/lever and LED assembly.

My impressions, if anyone cares...

The stick is made with QanBa parts. Same style parts as the QanBa Q1 however slightly different to accommodate the LEDs. You can still swap in specific Sanwa/Seimitsu parts if you please.

The base is all plastic. It has foam padding on the bottom. The shell itself has a rubber spray that gives it a unique feel.

Detachable USB cable similar to the MK9 stick, however this one fits better. No storage for the cable this time though.

All in all, I think this is more of an entry level stick and if you price it out minus the game value ($60), it's worth it for $90.

Hey Guys, I need to guidance on LED Modding my TE. As of today, my TE is dual modded.. Now i would like to be able to light up the buttons whenever they are pressed. Can anyone point a tutorial or parts needed.? thanks in advance!

Except the part about buying a PDP product.

PDP's MK sticks were fine. PDP is in a position now that MadCatz was in before SF4. Each product should be reviewed individually, not judged based on history. As it is now, the Injustice stick looks to be worth how much it's going for at retail. I think it's a good start.
EDIT: I'm sure someone will make a metal panel for this thing in the near future.

The same PDP MK Sticks that malfuctioned in the Netherrealm national tournament?

Not a good look.

Got a better alternative? The first batch of Tournament Editions were notorious for the HK button going out. Qanbas PCBs have gone out and I've personally had problems with one that would not stay synced to a PS3. I can't complain too much about Horis, although their stock buttons (even to this day) are fairly bad. All stick manufacturers have their problems and growing pains. Either way, even if their last stick sucked, we shouldn't judge the Injustice Stick on that. The Standard Edition fightstick by MadCatz is not the best stick in the world, but a lot of people would argue that the Tournament Edition fightstick is pretty close.

That's bad business.
