Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

damn, I've been putting off obtaining the HRAP2 and HRAP2SA for way too long. For now I'm happy with the 3SE, 1SA, and 1SE (of which I have two!). Shout outs to my Seimitsu advocates! I plugged up L1 and L2 for all my HRAPs, though. Eight button setups always bugged me and I'll even go as far as saying that all the original HRAPs look prettier with plugs.

goddamn

if you want an HRAP2SA I'll let you have mine if you give me one of your SEs lol

One of MadCatz pro sticks such as the MLG stick is the best option. You can worry about customization later. As for convertors, you might want to buy a real PCB to use the stick on two consoles , convertors like the one you mentioned can delays in input and can throw you off.

Yeah, I think I'm getting the Soul Calibur stick. I'm going to go with a PS3 one. I'll just keep an eye out for a Brawl Stick when it's $20 or so for my 360. Figure that'd be a nice one to try out customizing. I have no clue how to do any of it, but it really seems like a fun thing to start tinkering with.

Actually, I think I prefer this Street Fighter X Tekken Fight Stick Pro http://amzn.com/B0072A4KRA. The MLG, SF x Tekken, and SCV are all $100 on Amazon Prime, is there any difference between them other than looks?

The SC stick has slightly different button placement, and I don't like how the stick has the shortcuts printed near the buttons.

The MLG and SFxT sticks are the same besides the art.

Got my TE dual modded along with new buttons, balltop, and new art.

Usually I use my HRAP2 SA and I noticed on this TE, the deadzone (?) on some directions is a bit greater than my HRAP2. This is mostly for the up-back and up-toward inputs which screws up some IADs sometimes. I'll most likely get an up input if I'm playing like how I usually do. Anyone know if the only way to fix it is just buy a whole new Sanwa stick? Or is it something easy that I can fix?

So I have a TvC stick, and it works pretty good. I am just wondering if Sanwa parts are a big improvement over its stock components. It is my first stick and I'd like to change things because it sounds like fun. But seems rather pointless if there is not that much difference.

In my limited experience with the TvC stick, I didn't think they were a huge difference from actual Sanwa. The lever felt like a very loose/worn in JLF, but I didn't mind too much.

Just a reminder. This sale ends tomorrow night at midnight (PST).

Linda Le oh man oh man.

anyways, let me ask a question to people who rock the LS-32: if you could fit a JLF shaft/dust cover on one of yours, would you do it?

Well, the buttons are obviously inferior to real Sanwa, but they're not unusable. They're more reliable than the old MadCatz SE's buttons and they're a decent enough clone. If you're happy now, you're good. If you'd like to upgrade, obviously you can't go wrong with Sanwa. Sanwa buttons ARE more reliable, precise, etc. If you're looking for some Sanwa buttons, I'm talking to a GAFfer who has some for sale if you want me to get you in contact with him. I considered buying the buttons, but I think I'm just gonna stick with the balltop he's offered me instead.

EDIT: I also recommend you guys check out the Buy/Sell/Trade thread every once in a while. There are a good amount of sticks for sale on there from different users.

I finished this mod yesterday afternoon. Swapped out the stock Qanba PCB for a Paewang. Using a slightly longer USB cord. Stick is using Cherry switches from Paradise Arcade and Silent Sanwa buttons. Might start carrying this to tournaments. Starting to get tired of lugging my larger arcade stick.

^etching doesnt feel too bad when playing, its still very smooth :)

Looks great!
Is that the TE-S I sold you? Also, no mesh balltop? :)

yes! and no mesh, yet, focus attack sold out on black mesh and i forgot to lump it with my rakuten order. I still need a few things for this stick actually (SSMounting plate to make the lever taller, alum feet and mesh balltop i gues haha)

I'm so ready for SDOJ.
Dodonpachi Inspired stick. y'all know what black label means right. Seimitsu parts. Etched black lexan(?) overlay designed by me :)more bigger pics here

sexy.

quick question about the TE kitty:

is the board supposed to autodetect ps3/360?

i was able to fix my sparky jr issue a while back but now i need force the TE kitty into 360 mode.

prior to me fixing the sparky issue, the stick was autodetecting (without the need to hold any buttons to force boot) which is why i'm kind of curious about the situation

sparky jr issue
was that the 3K LEDs were constantly on. i found out the previous owner of the stick had his wiring backwards (sparky jr wiring was connected to ground on the TE) so i switched it to signal and everything works fine now.

Great stick. Plus Seimitsu and six button as it should be.

Just got my shipment in from Akibaharashop.jp last night. Really excited about this next stick project that I'm working on.

*slow clap*

Looks fantastic, nicely done.

I'm nearing completion on my first custom stick after several prototype control panels and a burnt 360 pad.

Luckily the gamestop had one Mad Catz Brawlpad on the shelf which has me excited because lots of people say it's much easier to work with than the old official pad I ruined. One question though - I've seen people mention something weird with hooking up the start and/or back button, but it's all very vague implying extra steps or parts.

Can i just wire them normally or is there something I need to be aware of with the brawlpad?

one of my friends hosted a session last Saturday and I noticed an HRAP1A lying around. Scooped it. It wasn't mint or anything but it's fine for what it is. I'll probably end up using it as a means to test out some potentially hard modifications. I found the HRAP3 at a Streetlight Records lol. Not exactly the most desirable HRAP around especially with the LS-32 mounting issue, but I actually really dig the color scheme and I think I can figure a way to fit the LS-32 in there solidly. I already ordered PS-14-D/Gs for both in their respective schemes.

currently playtesting each with my current obsession, KoF '98. SCANLINES ON.

Well son of a bitch. The moment I get free time and want to use my stick, the thing won't even turn on (I have a SCV Hori stick). I'm suspecting there is a short in the USB cord somewhere (it had some very isolated short outs in the past). However, I really don't have the money at the moment to spend another $100 on a stick. Unfortunately, there are no real modders or repair folks for this kind of thing in my location.

Given how I have nothing else to lose at this point, is there a good guide somewhere on replacing the USB cable?

Here's a tutorial from Nerrage of SRK on USB cable fixes. Haven't watched it, but his other tutorials on modding have been amazing.

Crappy cell phone picture of the Q1 I ordered when Focus Attack was having a sale the other week. I thought I'd be swapping out the buttons with some extra Sanwa ones I have laying around, but I kinda like the feel of the stock ones. Not as stiff as Hori stock and not as touchy as Sanwas. They'll work for now. It came with an octo gate, so I'll definitely put that in there.

It won't replace my Hori SCV with Seimitsu buttons and Sanwa JLF, but it's nice to have a smaller PS3 stick. Looks really sleek, too.

I finally re-modded my TE. :) I was rocking a Blacked out TE with Black Plexi and Black Sanwa Buttons. After a while that layout become kinda boring and I wanted a change. After a couple of weeks and sime time more I received all the parts for the new look including a new pair of Type S sides from madcatz.

Let me know what you think!

Halp. Anyone able to get their PS3 SE stick to work on PC?

I installed the drivers but I get no input motion from the stick or buttons. Here's my specs

ASROCK Intel Mobo
i5 3450 3.10 ghz
ati radeon 7850

(its actually wired 1 Player only for use with 360, i really need to get me some 1L6B again)

Sexy. Yours is very nice and white.

I just pulled out mine and started using it. Mine is just one player (since I changed the panel) and still for Saturn. Honestly, I don't have the room for it right now since I live in such a small place. It is off-the-hook unwieldy. My current desk is six inches too high so a bit uncomfortable. Soon as I get to a slightly bigger space (around summer) I'm making a little dedicated HS-0130 Saturn Setup.

I have a problem. I used to play fighting games with a cheap Mayflash PC/PS2 arcade stick. Problem is some years ago Microsoft didn't allow to create a converter or simply to use any USB device (as PS3 already does). So there are lots of 360 fighting games I just can't play. Is there any solution?

This is my stick:

Also, I would like to know how to replace the stick and the buttons. Any good tutorial?

I have that stick, replaced everything with Sanwa parts. You will need to cut the hard plastic around the stick mount and also cut the four individual wires since the circuit board is a bit ghetto.

My first stick, I did this five years ago or so. Old photos;

What's the easiest way to get my 360 TEs working on a PS3?

The easiest way is a converter like Mayflash. But as I mentioned a few weeks ago, when I started trying to play SSFIV with my sticks hooked up to PS3, I noticed that I was dropping a *lot* more combos. Same thing with completing some of the tutorials in Darkstalkers. (This is after having it work fine for P4A.) So either something's wrong with my converter now or it's not well-suited for games with tighter timing requirements. Have basically stopped playing on PS3 until I get my cab built. (Hopefully shipping soonish, yay!)

haha yeah, i feel ya. it's a hassle to find a good height table for it. heck, im currently using shipping boxes for the meantime to keep it upright at a decent height. same issue with the vlx i suppose. but its a solid stick, as real as it gets.

VLX is surprisingly more manageable. I'm guessing it has a much smaller footprint. Other than a dedicacted setup for an HS-0130 (like yours) the stick is probably best played on a coffee table four to six feet from a big screen. My only options now are two feet in front of the big HDTV (fun and arcade-like) or eight feet away on my bed. I plan on eventually using the SEGA stick on the floor slighltly raised...saturday morning cartoon style.

It is my Saturn stick, though. Don't ever need another one. Up till now I had been small using Saturn/PS1 sticks....and more recently a HRAP 2 SA with a Saturn adapter.

If you don't need that PS2 -> Saturn Adaptor anymore, I'd pay a good price...

Does anyone know if these are available anywhere anymore??

So...I should just get PS3 sticks?

You could easily mod your 360 stick if you're willing to open it up. The options now for dual modding a 360 stick for PS3 don't even require solder. I'm not sure what it's called nowadays (I think it's a cerberus), but you just buy it, strip some wires, and attach it to your 360 PCB. It's not super expensive or super difficult from what I've heard.

Worst case scenario, I'll sell you a brand new PS3 SCV TE (or other sticks) for a good price if you're interested ;) I sell a lot of sticks in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread haha.

im thinking, spacers+longer shaft (Paradisearcade and focusattack has some, or get shaft extender) with RE mounting plate.

I can finally join the master race of fightstick owners :) (Well, I did own the TvC stick a few years ago but had to return it). I've always loved the design of this stick and since it's no longer sold in stores, I was able to grab it for MSRP! It was in like new condition too!
