Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Agree on that HORI VF4 stick, in the age where everything wants to be multipurpose (for good reason, I'm not claiming that I want to buy a controller per game) there is something really cool about seeing a game controller that is intrinsically tied via layout and design to playing one specific game. Looking at that controller puts the picture in my head of a guy who buys one system per generation, not because of the overall library but because it has *the* game that he wants the play. I've got my Punch button, my Kick button, and my Guard button. What the heck else would I ever need to play a video game?

To be fair, the vast majority of PS2/PS1/Saturn shmups only need 3 buttons - that said, these days I'm becoming more and more of a One Game Man :)

Got a quick question, I have a Hori EX2 stick that I am installing a Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal restrictor and I need to drill the holes what size bit should I use? I ve heard 11/64 but I wanted to confirm.

Looks like they have the fighting edge in stock now. Just a matter of time before it ships. :)

Can you at least change the buttons? I want to make mine all white silent buttons since I bought the 360 version. I would get the PS3 version but between playing more fighters on other platforms and EVO going 360, 360 version is the way to go even though I have way more 360 sticks than I do PS3.

You can. I swapped my buttons out on the black one. It's easy peasy.

Ordered a white one on ps3 since I have a black on 360. Tempted to order a hayabusa stick or two to put in some of my other cases. Definitely my favorite joystick.

That is good to know. I mind as well order them now. Going to get a white shaft and dust cover too since I want the thing to be completely white.

I believe that's a thing with the 360 version only, something about MS not allowing the face buttons to be remapped.

Yeah, I'm aware it's a thing that happened to the 360 one only but I wasn't sure if that restriction was lifted after the black FE came out. It was part of what tipped me toward getting the PS3 FE, having one of the stick's coolest and most unique features gutted like that.

Finally got an Xbox One... and I have enough money for a TE2, but I can't find it anywhere. :( I really wanna get into KI. Aaaah.

The description page on Hori's site reads:

360 Fighting Edge said:

LB, RB, LT, RT buttons are remappable.
• A, B, X, Y, LB, RB, LT, RT, LSB, RSB, BACK buttons functions can be assigned.

So looks like it's still there. It should be cool to try it out. I never did because...yeah, 360 FE.

Are you going to do white LED/shaft for the stick and buttons too? The new Kaimana board makes them look super classy and I bet it would look so sick on the White Fighting Edge.

I know some stores in Canada still have them in stock still. Also, people have been posting success stories for Fry's Electronics retail stores, Microsoft Stores and GameStop.

Best of luck! Otherwise we are getting more in Feb.

Added some quick art to an extra TE. I need to get a black bezel and fix it up a bit.

Wait! Stick Of the Year? Didn't we JUST do this? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! I'm totally unprepared for this "passage of time" thing.

Congrats MarkMan, and MadCatz. As I said, I'm completely unprepared for this year, but just quickly thinking back, the first next gen stick probably deserves the honors of ASOTY 2013.

thanks. there weren't that many new releases (new colors didn't count, had to have something new either tooling wise or mechanically). so there really wasn't that much competition and only 3 sticks total were nominated.

If you want something that works with everything.

I'd get a stick with Sanwa parts and just quad mod it. It'll cost you a pretty penny. That's the price you pay though.

There are way too many factors to consider, however the great thing is, most sticks nowadays can be modded without too much trouble.

What kind of switch would one even use for a quad mod?

Glamour shot of my HORI VF4 stick. Pretty thing.

i have both the Evolution versions, red and blue (the ones with L3/R3 buttons ugh).. but i can't find that 3B one locally.. still want one of these to complete the trio (and eventually get the saturn VF / VF' sticks)

love me some game-specific controllers

I've thought about picking up a Saturn Real Arcade VF stick, but I opted towards a Tototek PS2->Sat converter instead. How do you like the Evolution sticks? It bugs me that there are 2 extra face buttons, even if they're used for training mode.

They have them all over the place in Japan. Want me to pick one up? They usually go for 15 dollars. Really cheap. There is also the Real Arcade Fighting Stick VF for Saturn too.

God at those real-world FE photos. I'm away for most of this month but I'm ordering so it will be there when I get back. PS3 version for me!

if you're willing to assist me in this, why not, sure :D I know i can get them very cheaply from yahoo auctions, but damn, the import/shipping/proxy fees will make it a lot less worth it in the long run.

honestly, they dont feel as good as say, the Namco stick or even the Tekken 3/4 Hori sticks. I dunno why, but the parts used in the 4Evolution stick are about as good as a Hori FS EX2. something about the lever feels off, buttons are stiff (but thats probably due to age/wear/idk). but yeah the L3/R3 buttons are recessed so really it doesnt bother you during play. It's novelty, I used it more for shmups really, since its small, i can just leave them around.

yeah! when i go to japan this time, i'm going with 3 empty suitcases/bags. just shipping my clothes/bringing a backpack/carry on with clothes. this time im going for vacation and just a few work responsibilities. so my friends and i are all going and we're renting out a house in tokyo lol.

GONNA GO NUTS.

Got a good eBay deal earlier in the week. Just showed up today!

You can never have too many Virtua Stick High Grades! :D

Got a CronusMAX but won't be touching it after from what I heard recently from Defend the North and CEO about burnt USB ports and input lag. Any progress Markman?

I was out of the office today. I really don't want to test them on my consoles at home, so I'll see what I can do when I get some downtime.

Can someone please explain the advantages of learning how to use Hitbox for me?

Picture for those that don't know what I'm talking about:

It's supposed to give you easier and more accurate inputs than a joystick. Just imagine how much easier it would be to backdash by just double tapping a button or how much more accurate a quarter circle forward would be by using 2 fingers on 2 different buttons at the same time. Try playing Street Fighter with ASD and Space for up on a Keyboard on your PC. It's weird, but technically, it's supposed to be better.

Thanks a bunch, I'm quite curious, but not quite 200 dollars curious yet.
