Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I got the same deal through the Madcatz store. It is a little confusing on the store page, but only the S+ models get the hex tool and extra art. As for the buttons, I'd just swap the connections so L and R are where you want them, then you can always re-map for Tekken or other Wii U VC games.

$80 is a great price for that stick,

Oh, well it says on the item's page that it comes witht he hex tool.

Product Includes

Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S+
Wii Remote Connectivity
Hex Tool
3.3' Wii Remote Cable

I'll do formal testing on the VSHG and see, mine has an "M" stamped on it. I've only tested it on VF2 and VF5FS, as well as SSFIVAE2012.. on AE, 3 button inputs (ultras) didn't wanna come out as often as i liked... I checked training mode and it seems to drop one of the inputs on multiple presses randomly. i also ran it on mame and loaded up SuperTurbo, and doing 3 Punches and 3 Kicks weren't as consistent it seems.. just my initial impressions.

EX-SE for me as GOAT.

seconding. i love the look of the EX-SE, very retro but still modern (its very superfamicom-esque)

I'd also love to have a Micomsoft XAC-1 with an astro panel but no way to get it shipped.

as much as i love micomsoft's products, i think they are charging for way too much for that. considering you can possibly get actual candy cabs for more or less around the same price range (in japan at least). I think they are also making a PC/USB based encoder for the controls, they tweeted about it, would be cool if that comes bundled with the XAC-1 in the future.

VLX would be GOAT for me too, if it werent for the fact that it was based on Vewlix haha, i personally dont like the button formation... I much prefer Noir or Lindbergh cabs hehe.

I personally like the HSS-0130, after converting it to 1player panel. its just the right amount of ridiculous excess for a home console arcade stick, i always get props for when people come over.

Not the prettiest wiring, but it works.

So I got a Cronus Max and my Hori SCV stick won't work. Any idea if other Hori sticks do?

Otherwise would I be safe with pretty much any given Madcatz TE?

Probably just going to sell the SCV stick.

Total shot in the dark here. I bought a dual modded VSHG uh, quite a while back. I'm finally getting around to testing it out. I have no idea what they modded it with (and I'm a bit scared to open it all the way out and find out, but will if I must), but when I plug it into my PS3 I get an error that says "unknown USB device." I know for some dual mods you need to hold buttons when you plug it in sometimes to activate a mode for a certain console.

Any suggestions on what I can try? It shows up as a generic USB input device on my PC, for whatever that's worth.

Mine has a stamped "M" on it as well. Is it the bad or good one? I don't use or really ever have used it so it is not a big deal. It is just fun to look at and have in my collection.

As for the XAC-1, I've got no issue with the price...even with shipping. Just wish I had the option to order one from somewhere. I just think it is a neat product and I'd love to own one. I kind of look at it as its own arcade setup...and far better than something like a Kray since it is an official product manufactured by a company. I don't really compare it to desks, cabs, or anything else. I'm guessing one option would to ask River Service and tack it onto a Cab order via freight.

Also, since we are talking favorite sticks I usually don't include game-licensed sticks (MC Namco is not really licensed in that sense) my favorite is the Mushi stick. I absolutely adore it and even love the turnaround from the initial reveal. I've long since retired it but it sits out in my gameroom to be looked at in passing every day. Also a good reminder that a shooter stick will never come again, likely. I also like my sanwa colors I put on it and the mesh ball which works surprisingly well. What is everybody else's?

I got my Hori Hayabusa control lever in today and I'm really liking this piece of hardware!

It fixes most, if not all of, the JLF issues and finally presents a worthy alternative joystick besides the LS-series. First day assessment -- this is high quality product, not some overpriced piece of junk.

Before you ask, it installs EXACTLY LIKE a JLF! All those universal mounting brackets should have no problems accepting the Hayabusa. If worst comes to worst, you could can probably swap the Hayabusa Mounting Plate and use the JLF TP-1 MP instead! The two mounting plates share common mounting anchor points as well as screw-in positions for their respective joystick bases. Further good news is that unlike the JLF MP the screws in the Hayabusa MP are not easily stripped by your screwdriver! If you ever had to use the JLF TP-1 MP, keep the Hayabusa MP screws... they'll work with the TP-1 as well.

In spite of being introduced in 2012 with the Fighting Edge, I think very few of us have actually played with one of these levers and can appreciate the differences from the JLF. I sure did!

It's rough to say that it's equivalent to LS-this or LS-that... It's more like it has some performance characteristics and blends of the LS-32 and LS-40 in a superior design build. It's really well-engineered and constructed without the worst tendencies of the JLF, IMHO. Throw may be longer than the LS joysticks I use but it's not terribly inconvenient like the JLF. Dash-dash/tap-tap moves execute fine. Funny thing is that I noticed immediate improvements in playing with this joystick between two separate play sessions this past Thursday night. The tendency just seems to get better playing with this joystick and more comfortable with it over time. I think it at least partially lives up to the hype built up around it. I can't think of any other joystick lever introduced over the past 3 years that's accomplished that feat in all honesty. The other contenders seem to have sunk into the background with quality control issues and lack of innovation.

Build is extremely solid... The general shaft design and part measurements mimick the JLF perfectly. Pretty much every JLF mod part on the market can be used with this new lever but why bother to touch/alter much besides the shaft and dust covers, ball handles, or spring tension? Pretty darn good, a solid performer.

IF you wanted to mod it anyway, Moonchilde on SRK posted pics of a minor base mod to accommodate short levered LS-56 (0.187-tab version) microswitches for faster switch activation and less/no-throw. This mod is far simpler than the days of grinding off those annoying tabs on the 30mm button holes of those Hori HRAP-lites. I personally like the Hayabusa as it is and only did a small spring tension mod on my lever...

I was concerned that the lack of levers on the microtabs would throw me off but it holds its own or performs better than the LS-32 and LS-40. It may appear to be a JLF clone on superficial glance but extended play reveals a well-designed, well-thought out product.

IMHO, Hori should stop buying JLF's from Sanwa and just install Hayabusa's in ALL its HRAP's and limited run joysticks from this year forward. The Hayabusa is a far better product IMHO. I still love my Seimitsu's and am NOT going to replace them with the Hayabusa's but chances are I will probably buy at least two more Hayabusa's to upgrade and fit out my joystick cases. Very good and solid product.

This control lever may be the best product release of the year and we're only one month into 2014...! I hope it could still qualify despite technically debuting in the Fighting Edge in 2012.

Don't forget that two fairly inexpensive sticks were released yesterday with these parts. Import only now but I'm at least expecting the red wired version so make it to the Hori USA Store.

My Fighting Edges both work (360 to ps3 and ps3 to 360) with cronusmax.

Weird I guess it's just the HORI SCV stick then? I tried my Dual Shock 3 and it worked fine so I don't think it's a setup issue.

Since it would cost just as much to buy a new TE or HRAPstick I might just bite the bullet and sell the Cronus and stick to get the KI fight stick.

You have to plug the Cronus into your laptop to program it each time you use it right?

Quick update on fitting a Crown 303-FK into my VLX. Fitting it was fine but damn if taking out the JLF wasn't an absolute nightmare. The JLF is in pieces now as three of the screws were on unbelievably tight and I had to break the poor thing to get it off, such a shame as I was looking on fitting it in a mate's brawlstick. VLX case is absolutely fine after that though, damn thing must be made of vibranium.

As far as the crown is concerned, fuck, I don't really know what to think, my hands are knackered from the installation and it's not like anything is magically easier, but I like it, definitely going to binge on tekken over the next few with it until I know how I feel about it.

So for any of you with a Hori VLX; them screws are tight.

I think you do if you want to switch it from XB1 mode to ps3/360.

Now to my liking.

Oh, that's nice...

I just got my black FE (dat Hayabusa), but I still need to pick up some kuros to get that monochromatic hotness. MS's dumb color-button requirement kills the aesthetic, but what hurts most is that it pretty much ruins the amazing on-the-fly button reassignment. Hori's unusual button arrangement is also frustrating, but not as big a deal. Otherwise though, I really like it.

Hmm... So I don't know if this has been answered or discussed already, but has anyone with an Xbox 360 SFIV Fightstick TE and a PS360+ PCB gotten the guide button to work? If so, can you provide any info (or diagrams) of what to connect where?

The best way to connect it is to use the wire harness from the turbo/guide PCB, clip the end off that normally goes onto the stock PCB and trace which wire is connected to the xguide button label on that board. Strip some of the wire sheath off and screw it into the home/guide terminal.

I did something similar to use my turbo button as back/select since i replaced that button hole with a neutrik jack for multi-console goodness.

EDIT: don't forget when connecting the wires from that PCB that you need to use one of the ground terminals on the wires, as well, or the button won't work.

I'll be ordering the brawl stick this week and was wondering where to get dimensions for replacing the art?

Also is there plexiglass or something of a cover on the out of the box stick? I have access to a laser cutter and might make some cover modifications.

You probably would have better luck searching for dimensions on the Street Fighter IV Standard Edition stick, the case should be identical. There is no plexi, and mind the top surface angles sharply around where your wrists would be.

is there a good site for tutorials on replacing the art/cover?

I only have used the Standard Edition stick only a handful of times so I forgot how it was built exactly.

awesome thanks, This is a huge help. I've never modded a stick before so even though this is an art installation, stick modding is something I've always wanted to get into... though it'll have to wait till graduate school is finished :P

I hope someone figures out a way to use a 360 stick on a PS4 =/

I'm not counting on it though
Okay, I'm pretty sure that my 360 Chun Li TE with a Cerberus was working on my PS4 during launch week but now it doesn't. Either I'm crazy orrr... Sony patched it out. I'm pretty sure I did it though and just navigated the menus. This is going to drive me nuts forever.

Have to say Madcatz and Markman outdid themselves with the Fightstick Pro.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FC1UHMI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It's much more comfortable and ergonomic than the older TE Models and I've owned several HRAPs, and the circulation cutting Super TE.

Probably my favorite stick ever with Cronus Max for Killer Instinct. Gonna be supremely sad if MS ever blocks CronusMax.

I'm glad you like the feel/comfort of the FightStick PRO.

A lot of people overlooked the stick thinking it was a step down from the TE, which annoyed me a lot when it first launched. It was never meant to be a step from the TE, rather an alternative to what we already offered. We still made TE style sticks when the FightStick PRO was out.

Our goal was just to have a wide range of different sticks and I'm happy to say we've done that. I don't think any other company has matched the diversity we've done in such a small amount of time.

agreed.

I just wish it was dual-console. I'm afraid to mod mine because I feel like I'll fuck it up

The fightstick PRO style sticks were such a nice iteration and I too enjoy the comfort of the stick. My EVO edition stick is probably my favorite in my collection. Speaking of, the EVO stick doesn't seem all that sought after oddly.

Yeah I gotta hand it to you guys. If it weren't for you, we'd probably still be slumming it up with decade-old HRAP molds. MC really lit the fire in the stick market and necessitated change for companies like Hori to compete and stop resting on their laurels.

Thanks for the info/suggestions. I'll give that a whirl and see what happens. I assume I basically just have to screw that wire (from the PCB for the turbo panel) into the home/guide terminal, but also screw one of its grounds into a ground terminal on the PS360+ too?

Sorry for the newbie questions. This is/was my first time modding an arcade stick. Still very much a student!

While I'm not the biggest fan of the Fightstick Pro case style, I think that the one you linked is the best looking version by far. Just some nice Madcatz branding without any gaudy licensed artwork detracting from it. Looks great, especially for PS3.

Makes me really happy because I love when they come out with new stuff.

That's it, yeah. You can actually get a harness to connect to the LEDs on the PS360+ as well but I never went through that.

put my amazon order in for a brawl stick. It'll be my first test stick to see if it is what I need. I also got some tools for replying art based on the tutorial links provided.

Again, huge thanks to everyone (as well as the lovely MM for designing the stick... as always :P )
