Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

So having not played New Leaf or really much AC at all, what kind of gimmicks and features or possible hazards can we expect from this stage? It looks like that tree with the yellow fruit is interactive and those lobsters could maybe pinch and/or latch onto fighters (ha!)

I would love to hear your ideas???

I'm thinking beetles appearing on trees, fruits falling when you hit against a tree hard.

Also, expecting chat bubbles to appear from whoever exists the hut, such as Tortimer and Kapp'n.

I think when he means by "different layouts", he refers to trees, shrubs, etc. being different, much like how you visit other islands. I bet trees and shrubs can act like platforms.

Would explain that flat topped tree.

Are we to assume it is a given for the night time version of this stage to be in smash 4 considering the fondness of which Sakurai talks about collecting bugs?

also, really good eye guys, for spotting the platform trees that's going to be really cool especially since it means that you can jump up on the little Plateau as well so its also like A 3 layer stage. this is shaping up to be a really awesome stage for the 3ds like most of the stages so far on the handheld. I wonder if there's even going to be transformations since one of the biggest gimmicks for the island is traveling with Kapp'n?

Lovely stage. I really feel like the 3DS version is going to be something special. Hopefully if no story mode there's TONNES of things to unlock in single player when friends aren't around. I want three different accomplishment walls like Kid Icarus!

But... is it just me, or does the stage look really... low-poly? Maybe it's just the angles, but the scenery looks really awkward, like it was pulled from an early DS game or something.

Probably being defensive. If the layout is random, that means you'd have to consider the possibility that the content would be randomly-selected to be unusually high-poly, so they may have designed around the worst-case scenario.

Trying to get my head around depth here. I assume they're not actually fighting in a 3D space, so is content to the rear of the island regarded as higher?

Edit: Just realised that the only characters we've seen *are* operating on a single plane.

Finally, I'm glad to see full screen of Animal Crossing 3DS Stage. I really like the layout and color vibe, so it look fantastic. I can't wait!

This week have been fantastic week for Daily Image, and I can't wait for next week!

You know what? This stage reminds me of the first reveal of the Mario Galaxy stage. It's a rounded world where the characters give this look that they're "leaning" a bit. It helps to emphasize that this isn't just some 2D platform or 2D walk-off stage.

I wonder what Mega Man's and Sonic's stages are going to be on the 3DS? I dunno, I was just thinking about it. They both have virtual shop titles on the system I guess.

Looks great! Personally, if I had to pick a New Leaf stage, though, I would have gone with Main Street. Long, flat stage with some awnings and rooftops you can hop on, one side is a cliff with a drop off, other is walk-off, cameos of all sorts of characters in the background... it's be interesting.

I love the randomization aspect, though, which seems to be happening for just about every stage so far - a new twist or new textures. Should keep things fresh!

Too similar to the Wii U stage I suppose. They wanted to do something different on 3DS.

I hope Wii U gets a stage with random layouts too. Neat concept.

Kinda was the case in Wario Ware Brawl stage. At least a bit of the same idea. Smash Bros has always been about crazy stages so I'm optimistic. Not to mention, imo always playing on final destination is dumb.

Is it just me or are there a higher ratio of walk-off stages in new smash? I would need a handy Intelliheath list (again, he is the king of lists in my mind) to compare how many walk off stages each game has had but it seems like there have been quite a few.

this is how all stages should be introduced for the first time instead of just closeup pics

I agreed with you there but it's okay for Sakurai to post some teases to keep us in anticipation.

I hope Wii U gets a stage with random layouts too. Neat concept.

I hope that Advance Wars stage would be one of those random layout with random hazards. FOGS, MISSILES, EXPLOSION!

Y'know, with both a randomized stage and the fact that we've seen battlefield both with platforms and without platforms, I'm wondering if Sakurai's overall aim is to add a lot of options to stages so that they don't get stale.

Perhaps. I did pointed out that we had few stages that had completely different layouts like 3 threads ago, but it was interesting that we are kept receiving the updates regarding with the situation. I can't wait to see what Sakurai and the teams had for upcoming stages.

Maybe they don't want it to get stale because it might be last Smash game for long long long time.

That AC level in the pic of the day looks awesome!

Mario actually looks a little out of place haha, it looks like an AC screenshot.

Clean, but as usual with multi-pic days, only the first:

Sonic wont like this stage either
tumblr_mnu2ud1mQR1s9pusko1_400.gif
Fortunately, Sonic can swim in Smash Bros., somewhat arbitrarily. (Not for long, but he can.)

Also Charizard, who would apparently die if his tail flame was doused, can swim in Brawl with nary an issue.

It'll definitely be the last Smash game for a long long time. Each Smash game is always the last Smash game for a long long time :P Except maybe Melee.
I think you mean 64. Melee was the last Smash game for a long period of time; 2001 to 2008. 64, meanwhile, came out 1999 and had Melee to follow it up as soon as 2001.

Pic of the day. Here's a new stage for the 3DS version: Tortimer Island! I've been here countless times to catch bugs.

What a beautiful day. On this stage, fighters are randomly placed on a different island layout every time they visit. Yar, come back anytime, will ye?

That's a nice looking stage. Almost makes me want to go back and check out my New Leaf game. Almost.

I know it would be a lot of work but you should link to the images so people can easily click and catch up on things they missed

So will that stage be exclusive to the 3DS version, or is Sakurai just showing off pictures of it from the 3DS version? I know trophies can be exclusive to versions, but I hope stages / characters aren't.

Had a dream I was in Smash Bros. there was a weakness strength mechanic in the game where certain character were good against other in terms of how much damage they could do to them. I was apparently strong against Sonic because of my hatred of his new designs and downfall. I was able to KO him with forward tilts and Smashes no matter what damage percentage he was at. I also had some kind of hatred outburst that blew him out of his final smash and auto killed him.

I think stages were confirmed to be mostly version specific a long time ago. Only stages like Battlefield and the Boxing Ring are in both. Characters are the same.

I'm sure Sonic's FS has been rough on all of us. Almost Impossible not to be killed by that fucker. Too easy to control, too much knockback and the duration is far too long :(
