Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I wonder how many people in this thread have yet to figure out the pic is only "late" because of daylight savings time.

Lucario's might be considered wrong though, he was formally revealed in 2005 as the star of Movie 8 as a pre-release Pokemon.

I guess he wasn't playable till 2006, still though.

That picture timeline made me realize just how old nintendo's franchises are, how we should give mr. game and watch more love, and how influential mario has been in the entirety of gaming.

But they've already been confirmed.

I wanna see a King K Rool AT. Maybe throws his crown at opponents and runs around the stage really fast, or if based off DKC2 shoots people with his cannon

Ooh, K. Rool would be cool. I'm kind of gunning on him being playable or a sticker - nothing in between, though. (Bet with a friend)

Servbots better be a freaking Assist Trophy...

I will take no other alternative from the Mega Man series.

To be honest, I didn't know enough about Mega Man to say anyone but Mega Man X :P

Are there any possible newcomers that could be used from 2008-2013.

Speaking of newcomers, I'm secretly hoping for Yoshi to get a major overhaul and have Baby Mario with him. Could use Baby Mario's crying bubbles as a Up-B, and have Baby Mario use the super star as a final smash.

*cough cough*

As much as I would fucking LOVE to have Servbots as an Assist Trophy, I'm thinking it's pretty unlikely. Sakurai's pretty respectful of series canon in Smash, so I feel like he's going to stick to Classic universe characters and elements only... it's the same reason I doubt we'll see X and Zero trophies, etc. For Assist Trophies, I'm expecting Bass, Proto Man, and/or Roll at best. For regular trophies, I'm expecting the above plus Drs. Light, Wily, and Cossack, plus the Yellow Devil and a few iconic Robot Masters (Cut Man, Air Man, Splash Woman).

Little Mac debuted in 87. They're using the Punch-Out!! arcade date, though, which does not feature Little Mac. So basically they're wrong.

Not really, the Smash poster of Little Mac pretty much confirms it's him.

Yeah it's a homage, but it still, in a way, interprets that the arcade game PO still considers the player as LM.

1985-1987 were good years apparently.

Indeed. All the classics we love today :)

I was going to answer, but looks like others already posted the right candidates lol.

I'm also rooting for a Yoshi revamp. He deserves it. Baby Mario would be an interesting mechanic as well.

One thing that I don't think I've seen discussed yet here is the topic of Mega Man's voice. Will he have one, or just be silent?

Personally I hope he does have one because he very much has a voice canonically, but I feel like it's possible that Sakurai will keep him silent since he's said he's specifically going for a modern version of Mega Man's NES incarnation.

There's also the risk that if Sakurai does give him a voice in Smash, that Capcom would mandate that he sound like a weird, awkward teen in the US version of the game... like he did in Mega Man: Powered Up and all the US version of the Battle Network and Star Force animes. Honestly, whenever classic Mega Man sounds like anything besides a kid (like Rockman's voice), it's just... wrong.

That's like saying it confirms Donkey Kong was in the game. It's just having fun paying homage to the series' roots.

Nowhere in the game does it mention a "Mac," the guy isn't Little at all, and he looks like this:

Also you name him whatever you want.

They're not wrong in the way they meant to show it, afterall lil mac was revealed for smash on the anniversary of the punch out!! arcade.

Running late as usual eh, Sakurai

Little Mac also looked different in SNES and NES though. Nintendo treats the arcade as Little Mac's "origins" so to speak despite it being "not" him.

Hey, that means we got his Green Team color! :P

But all the other characters are their in their game debuts, not their series debuts. That's why Ocarina of Time Ganondorf is way over in 98.

Punch-Out!! arcade guy is not Little Mac.

SNES is NOT Little Mac. Find me anything in the game, manual, or box in any language that says he is. EA called him Little Mac because they're idiots. NOA calls him Little Mac on the VC game's page because they're idiots.

Donkey Kong was in the arcade game. Other than that I agree with you.
