Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

A long time ago, Sakurai said that he actually contacts each character's creator and asks for permission as a formality, even though that isn't legally required. I still think Kojima is playing around with us, though. People in the gaming industry "lie" all the time in order to avoid spoiling things.

I'll say.

I find this way funnier than I should.

I just noticed Mac has some armor when he charges up the K.O Meter. He takes two hits from Bowser in the trailer while he's charging it and it doesn't interupt it.

I've already seen at least one person over at GameFAQs claim that even if Yoshi was going to be revealed tonight, he's not anymore and Sakurai is going to cut him retroactively because of the middling reviews Yoshi's New Island is getting.

... The stupidity over there is astonishing sometimes. Well, a lot of times.
The thing with GameFAQs is that people may be trolling, or are serious. It may be hard to tell at times.

Now Miiverse on the other hand...

May I have source please? I don't really recall Sakurai mentioned that.

Yeah that Kojima interview feels like a soft confirm to me. Don't worry, Snake now has a shot.

Anyway GOOD MORNING SMASHGAF READY FOR SOME FRIDAY SHENANIGANS

Captain Rainbow(Dash), leader of the bronies joins as Captain Rainbow and Captain Falcon perform the fusion dance.

Sakurai when are you gonna put in a cat alternate for the Nintendogs AT/stage? I know you want to Sakurai cause I want it too :)

different coloured
Yoshi will make a good assist trophy. He comes up and if you jump on him you get to ride him and you have a whole new set of controls. Would be awesome.

I'm thinking about trading in my 360 and 3DS this weekend for a WiiU. (There's a deal where you get 50% more in-store credit towards next-gen systems, plus Smash in HD!). Are refurbished systems a good choice to buy?

Does anyone else prefer the old design of items compared to the new ones? Especially the sticky bomb

What if Meta Knight hasn't been announced yet because he's actually Yarn Meta Knight permanently now?

I actually wouldn't mind that.

Yarn Meta Knight literally can't die
RIP everyone else

no don't do this, 360+3DS is a great combo

Not even that is all for the day's work, though. As the main man in the Smash Bros. project, he has to make presentations to the copyright holders for all the guest characters, provide direction to outsourced developers, and formulate plans for future PR and info releases.

He had done a lot for us to get our hands on those precious third party characters.

I'll allow Snake to be cut ONLY if he's replaced with Raiden
who's never appeared on a Nintendo platform.

I can see the reveal trailer now, "Raiden takes a DOOMP on the competition!"

I honestly think you guys might be a little too confident about this whole Yoshi thing. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we didn't see him tomorrow.

Can you remember which website that you read it from?

I haven't found it yet but I did find this which isn't on the main page of the OP and I certainly haven't read it but it is about starting from scratch with all the veterans mechanics/physics!

http://www.nowgamer.com/features/2034386/super_smash_bros_sakurai_speaks.html

"While the game’s E3 unveiling was light on mechanics information, with the focus instead put on the character reveals of Wii Fit Trainer, the Animal Crossing Villager and Capcom’s Mega Man, Sakurai explains that the rules for each character are being subtly rewritten for this entry. "So as far as movement speed and falling speed, we start over, we wipe the slate clean. However, that’s just for us internally – probably from the fan side, they are not going to notice the changes we make, it’s going to feel pretty familiar."

"if you look at Melee, at the game speed and game spec, it skewed more to the maniac players – the real hardcore players, and that was for those guys. You like Smash fighting games? This is for you. It’s fast and furious. But Brawl was more accessible to people who were maybe playing Wii Fit or Wii Play – it was an entry level game. What we’re focused on now is that middle ground between Melee and Brawl for this title."

Shit, I can't believe I missed this. These are great and hopeful bits

The second quote about how Brawl was aimed torwards the casual market, reminds me of an interview from a band explaining why they went more mainstream with a a particular album for accessibility purposes and IMO, it is an extremely good sign for Sm4sh, that he admits that and is wanting to specifically target both audiences.

Oh shit, did he totally name drop an unrevealed stage right here back in August?:

"The 3DS stages are versions of stages you’ve seen on handheld devices, and the Wii U stages that appear are going to be based [on those seen on] home consoles. And, for one thing, there’s a small screen on the 3DS of course – the shrine stage is a big stage. You put that on the 3DS, and those characters in proportion become small, so it’s obviously not a good fit, so again, we want to choose stages for the 3DS that fit that screen size."

I cannot think of any Shrine stages for Wii U, unless it is Palutena's temple. Oohpe, I guess that is it. Palutena's Shrine as a large stage confirmed!

Okay, in regards to the Kojima AMA question about Snake's inclusion I thought it was interesting that Sakurai used this example about cohesive art styles:

"Of course, one thing I have to do is, I have the last look at everything. I have graphic supervision over all the assets, so I’m the one who, when everyone’s done, they pass it over and I look at it. Let’s be truthful: Snake and Mario on the same screen is gonna be odd – but what we have to look at is textures and environments and how they fit in the world, their colours, their size ratios, how they move and how they jump, and all these sorts of things and really make sure, to the best of our abilities, as you said, they look comfortable together."

Calm down, y'all. It's not guarantee that we would get Yoshi. What if Sakurai decided to wait for Japanese Release Date?

Then I would be a little disappointed but will be happy with whatever we got and continue with my day. I think the chance of getting a veteran tomorrow is decent though.

Meanwhile Sakurai is "fuck ... not at late development AGAIN"

Don't even play man... Imagine this is the true scenario? I wouldn't go berserk but I certainly wouldn't not go berserk.

Also I forgot today is the American release for Yoshi. Ugh... My Yoshi hopes are sharted until the Japanese release.

If this was true than it is pretty sure that Snake will be in Smash 5 for PS5 and XB0 Nintendo's next videogame =P

Raiden is in Mortal Kombat 2 on the Super Nintendo, so he does have a chance at getting in.
