Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I am as of yet uncertain how I'll fit this into an avatar.

lol, too good.

I want Ridley playable too, but picking Pyrosphere as a stage seems to demand Ridley as a stage hazard imo. We'll see, but I've pretty much given up hope for him and am now hoping Little Mac, Palutena, and Mewtwo show up to fill the (huge) void.

Ridley confirmed unplayable
because just as in Other M his presence would paralyze Samus with fright.
.
God that game was horrible.

So the new Assist Trophies so far include:

- Skull Kid (The Legend of Zelda)
- Ashley (WarioWare)
- Mother Brain (Metroid)

I feel like I'm missing someone, in terms of new ATs.

Would be funny if they use Yarn Yoshi stage / skin. I know Sakurai more or less liked Yarn Kirby art style, but not so much its slower gameplay. Will be interesting to see how he treats his 'son' this time and its latest derivative.

Huh? Where was this said?

Posting this again, because this is the first time I've ever viewed the Other M design as acceptable, within this context. The lack of the segmented neck, actually helps it, a bit,

And of course, it would match up with Samus' Other M Varia Suit.

I've never gotten the "Ridley is definitely just a stage hazard" bit. I mean, I admit it's possible, but feel like Sakurai would have shown that by now... I mean, we've known about the stage for MONTHS now. I'm pretty sure he's still in the running. Not a given by any means, but in the running.

Mother Brain as an Assist Trophy is pretty much the last place I'd expect her (hazard or boss seem much more appropriate), but she looks pretty awesome. Wonder where the Rinkas will come from...

'Classic' Ridley fits better with everything. Smash Bros, Samus, everything. A lot of designs in Other M were terrible, but especially Ridley. That was by far the worst.

Do you think we will get more amazing assist trophies as the ones that have been announced?
In my opinion the ones from Brawl were cool but a little lacking....
Except Little Mac, MK II and Gray Fox!

I am actually starting to like his Other M design quite a lot. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I think I was so angry at Other M back when I saw it the first time, that my mind automatically thought of it as a "shit redesign". Obviously his design in Zero Mission is far superior... And even if I hated Other M Ridley, I'd rather have it over no Ridley.

And I don't disagree with you.

Yea, my thoughts exactly. That shot makes it look much better, than being seen within Other M. Maybe in a different setting (Smash Bros.), it would be more acceptable for me. I wouldn't be surprised if that is what Sakurai does anyway, since Ms. Aran is draped in her Other M armor.

Speaking of assist trophies, I hope Jill (from Drill Dozer) is back in SSB4.

I actually want her as playable character, but if not even Game Freak give a shit about Drill Dozer anymore, why should Sakurai?

Couldn't agree more. Jill is one of my most wanted fighters, as she would be an incredibly unique character both visually and mechanically.

It would be great because she'd be a female "Heavy" character, but they could also play around a lot with the Dozer and Jill acting separately.

And of course, the Final Smash is a Level 3 gear.

He would just have to be a bit shorter or hunch over, as to not clip with the platforms on Battlefield. In other words, he can't be taller than Bowser (who just misses clipping it).

Something like this.

She would!

Uh I haven't thought about that before, but now that you mention, we have no heavy female characters in Smash. Jill would be definitely a good fit.

I don't know why people have such a hard time imagining a reasonably sized Ridley. He was already around the perfect size in Melee's intro, wasn't he?

I can imagine a reasonably-sized Ridley just fine, but the problem is that a smaller Ridley looks awful next to Samus and doesn't properly convey the spirit of the character. He's supposed to be an imposing monster, not a cute baby dragon. Ridley was only small in the first Metroid because he had to be; it was a technical limitation. We've already seen Ridley realized in the Smash Bros. universe as a boss, where he's suitably gigantic.

I'd love to be wrong, but I just don't see it happening. What with the Pyrosphere "hint" and damaged arena, he seems fit for a stage hazard.

I don't see how a smaller version of Ridley looks awful when it would have the exact same design as Ridley in his regular size (as any of his sizes, actually, since he has different sizes in most games he appeared in). I understand some people not wanting Ridley to be playable (I actually don't, but I respect other people's opinions), but some of those arguments are just... ugh.

Does Ridley get his pants custom-made or can he just walk into a big and tall store and find what he needs?

I think it will be very disappointing if Metroid didn't get another character. I would even be happy if they just split off zero suit as an alt instead of the smash switch. It's hard to get good with someone who you rarely get to use.
