Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Hey guys,

could someone tell me what differences there will be between both version? I know about graphics of course and different stages, but I'm asking about gameplay. Can we say both game will be identical gameplay-wise?

They should be. Stages, in theory, though, can affect gameplay. But they should both be 60fps (if 3ds is 60, wii u better be). All characters and moves should be the same, unless some balancing happens between 3ds release and wii U release (which is entirely possibly, given that they'll know which characters are doing the best/worst in for glory). I'd hope they'd patch the 3DS version, too.

Features will likely be different, due to hardware limitations. For example, maybe the Wii U one will let you save replays and upload to youtube, but the 3DS lets you upload screenshots to tumblr (both conjectures based on precedence with mario kart 8 and animal crossing new leaf).

From what I remembered;

3DS
  • 60fps (with 3D on)
  • AT/Pokeballs/etc will be in 30FPS
  • The numbers of Assist Trophies and Pokeball Pokemon would be roughly same as amount in Wii U

I think we wouldn't know if they shared identical gameplay until Wii U got released because they could change anything during Wii U development.

This.

I'm kind of expecting that there will be a balance patch for the 3DS version once the Wii U version releases.

IMO Ike, Lucas, and Wolf are entirely expendable.

Roy → Ike → Luncina (or maybe Chrom). I will be crushed if we don't get a FE:A character, though it's possible that Lucina will only be in as a costume/skin for Marth.

Mother 3 came out 8 years ago and only in Japan. Ness is by far the more iconic character from that franchise, though I agree that he could likely remain secret.

Wolf I mention only because I hate that line of characters.

I will cut you!

This.

I'm *REALLY* hoping that one of the reasons 3DS is out first is that it's a balance testing ground for the Wii U one. How sublime would that be? Obviously, it's not the only reason (HD assets, engine, features), but I hope it's one of them.

Though I haven't encountered an Orne yet, the whole concept behind it being a touch of death enemy that you mostly flee from definitely makes me think it's a Smash Run enemy and I hope so because it will be Fae less annoying getting one shotted on that mode then losing a stock during a versus match on a stage because you couldn't dodge a ghost thing.

Also, it makes more sense for the 8-bit music change for when it approaches on a massive area like that of Smash Run. Seems it would be far more dynamic that way.

Comparing it to the chimera + the background tell me it's just a stage hazard on the reset bomb stage. We already know that stage has enemies after the bomb drops.

According to others, the Orne appearing in the reset bomb forest is inconsistent though. I guess since it is a side scrolling stage it would make sense because you'd have room to run from it and like DaBoss said; the lower left corner of the potd is pink like the R.B.F

Was definitely hoping it would be a special smash run enemy. Man; would be such a wasted opportunity if that mode doesn't have bosses/mini bosses and other special mobs

In other news; I fucking need 40 days to pass before my eyes right NAO!!!!!

seriously ready to record/play/watch/breathe/eat Smash Bros. at Best Buy. I don't give a shit how long I have to wait. I am going to record hours of footage for you guys.

It could be both, I suppose. No reason not to.

Guys: what would be the best way to cull community requests on what youmguysnwant me to record footage of at best buy?

I want to compile a list so I can show you as much as possible so we can start the analysis machine to distract us from the long wait on both games. I have a busy summer ahead and will need an easy reference point so any suggestions would be helpful.

It isn't a scrolling stage.

It could be a Smash Run enemy looking at the bottom of this:
But I'm more inclined to think that it is a part of the stage.

An enemy not appearing in a certain area of a game most likely won't stop Sakurai. Yellow Devil is an example of this.

No, look at the direct or better yet , the gameXplain 3ds stage analysis. It is a very slow sidescrolling stage that scrolls to the left.

I hope you are right and it appears in Smash Run! Just seems more suited, since it is OHKO

What do you mean? The yellow devil appears somewhere else besides megaman's stage?
Yellow Devil does not appear in Mega Man 2. Wily's Castle is from Mega Man 2.
It isn't? It sure looks like it's scrolling in the direct.

I'm saying the camera is only panning there to show the whole stage and giving the perception that it is a scrolling stage. There are platforms missing on the left and right side which should be there if it is a scrolling stage.

But then I look at these pictures and just become confused:

Why is a platform missing? The one below which is further left than that shows up so I don't think the platforms will disappear/appear when needed.

Maybe that platform can be destroyed.

The Ultimate Chimera was also a OHKO stage hazard and only appeared as a stage hazard.

not really, any channel that gets a substantial number of viewers obviously has their own capture card and wouldn't fall under this
that being said, hopefully video sharing is in SSB4

For the most part, you are correct. Every now and then, some nobody is going to post a really sweet video of a glitch or of something really cool, and it'll get hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of hits. Nintendo will make ad revenue off all of those.

Edit: I mean, look at this - My friend posted videos of smash brawl before release in the US of all movesets (we had access to a japanese Wii) https://www.youtube.com/user/bwaggleburgers/videos and got hundreds of thousands of views. He doesn't make tons of videos, he was just one of the first (if not THE first) to post comprehensive movesets for all characters.

there's no way a full video will be a hit like that, it has to be rather heavily edited which means it slips off the tag

Yeah, I've already seen quite a few channels with only a single video uploaded, which has a few hundred k - ~1,5Mil views

Those sweet, sweet pennies! Come to papa

99% of the time, sure. There will still always be exceptions to the rule.

We also don't know if it'll let you upload everything. What if it lets you upload a practice session. You could easily pull off a glitch in a practice session and upload it.

You could upload some 2 minute 'For glory' match that is amazing.

Who knows what could happen. For the most part, yes, this won't make them that much money, but it does mean they'll make money if someone has some mystery viral hit on youtube.

Also: Isn't this building a database of content ID stuff so that it can try to match other videos too? Does it work like that? (Genuinely curious)
