Classic Pit's proportions are off, it'd probably warrant a new character slot if they wanted to change it. They should have went with the three sacred treasures costume since it would make sense with the same model.
Alternatively they could have given him the typical 80s anime face if they were insistent on capturing the retro look.

I'm pretty sure games coming to eShop end up not really meaning anything one way or another (I think the only time Sakurai even acknowledged anything like that was when KI:U went up in Japan), but maybe since he's third-party this could mean something good? I dunno, it certainly doesn't hurt at least.

The Prime suits still have cannons though.
Pretty sure Sakomoto in that ancient just meant the Prime trilogy + Hunters is a side-story compared to the mainline Metroids and not that it's irrelevant to the other games.

This ain't the Zelda timeline, bro. There's an actual continuity here. Prime series was explicitly set between M1 and M2, while Other M is between Super and Fusion.

I like to think of it as a shitty movie the Federation commissioned to assassinate Samus's character after the events of Fusion, but we all know that they'll probably explicitly reference the events of Other M and continue with the terrible characterization of Samus just to remind us all who's boss.

Other M barely even explained anything significant you'd need to know between Super Metroid and Fusion beyond how Adam died, and that plot point is handled just as stupidly as the rest of the game's plot is so I'm also willing to just pretend the entire thing was a fever dream Samus had.
Also the Dark Suit recolor is still in SSB4 on the Other M Varia Suit along with Dark Samus being an Assist. If there aren't Prime-alts it's not because of whether it's 'canon' or not.

Like what? That the same thing happens twice? That's just because Samus isn't that smart in Other M. So I guess her intelligence was retconned, but not Fusion.
