Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 9: F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5

That all these suggestions that competitives want will one day lead to that under the guise of "Its deeper gameplay that won't affect casuals at all!"

Ah, so it's a slippery slope argument that somehow sakurai will eventually turn the game into something he doesn't want the game to be.

Ok, so should I just ignore your posts from now on or are you actually going to start talking sense at any point?

Updated, running out of material to work with though.
Why do they give coloured accessories to Pikachu for his alts but not to Sonic?

Anyone know of any pros smashers or top players here on the boards who will be setting up a channel for Smash after it hits? I'm really hoping for something fun like the Mike Ross/Gootecks days of SF4.

So predictions that Mac would sport his Wii circuit colours were pretty spot on. WTT getting green was a pretty easy guess though. Waiting to see if my orange prediction is spot on.

Disappointed that Little Mac's pink jacket & sweats are only used during his battle intro. Do the color changes change his jacket and sweats?

Isn't that Melee?
/lol

I know you're joking but all the things we want to be added to the game to make it more fun are either the opposite of melees stupid input barriers (like L-cancelling) or are just things that people won't notice (like dash dancing).

Like, I hate wash-dashing, I hate having to L-cancel, I can't do either of them consistently because my hands just aren't fast enough, but I still enjoy project M far more than brawl and melee and when I ask for better competitive options I want to move away from these stupid input barriers.

The casual community have a massive misunderstanding of what we want for the game and they end up coming across as more elitist than the reasonable members of the competitive community.

I'm planning on becoming a TO for smash 4 so I'd like to start streaming smash fests and eventually tournaments when the game releases, but I'm far from a top player or a pro, just have massive interest in the scene.

No it won't. You're being ridiculous.
I don't feel that I am. I don't expect this to happen, I just fear it.

No need to resort to insults, ok? I'm just stating an opinion or something I'm afraid of.

Absolute nonsense. Competitive players are generally not in favor of more difficult controls.
Street Fighter players don't think their controls are difficult.

They designed the Brawl demo based on the future select screen too. Why would it be different this time? The final select screen of course is designed to display all of the characters as well as possible. If you think the 3DS squares will further shrink, go crazy. I doubt they will. I also doubt that it's a coincidence that the 3DS screen perfectly fits the remaining likely newcomers and the rest of the Brawl veterans (except Snake and Lucas of course).

Keep in mind, this is assuming they expand the 3DS screen to last two pages in the first place, so it's already different from the demo.

Because it's a different game. Extra pages, scroll down, whatever. Trying to pin down characters based on this is tinfoil hat territory.

I don't mean to resort to insults (even though I don't think I really insulted you) but all of your posts in this thread and the less seem like you're trying to be intentionally ignorant to the truth so you can continue to push your agenda about the competitive community and it's getting annoying.

I mean I don't think you've actually replied to any of my in-depth posts yet, choosing to reply instead to less informed, vague or just generally short posts just because it's easier to argue against.

I did talk about extra pages. The possibility of extra pages supports the 47 character roster. The point is that absolutely everything we know (past games, current roster screen, leaks about characters) suggests a 47 character roster. The select screen is just being used to support what we already know, and past select screens give us good reason to think the screen won't actually change. I feel like you're not even trying to understand our posts. The "tinfoil hat" theory would be to assume that the entire roster screen would be radically changed for no reason at all, which is what you seem to be suggesting.

Well what do you want then? Do you want things to just generally be faster? Is this what reduced landing lag is about? I guess I can agree to that. But when you guys say "I want more mobility options!" It sounds like you want the game to be Street Fighter with platforming.

You're seriously underestimating the scope of what a balance patch encompasses. It's not a trivial task by any means.

That's not at all what I was responding to, though. I don't expect it to happen unless there's significant post-release development going on and they have time to evaluate and address that, but if it did happen it's not going to dramatically change the way a casual player approaches the game.

You seem to have a poor understanding of the posts then, so it's good you're asking questions like this now. Most people just want to be able to control their character without artificial restrictions (landing lag) keeping them from executing certain strategies. It really just makes the game more fun for everyone.

Street Fighter is not a game with 'mobility options' lol

This goes from the assumption that casuals are ignorant and don't notice when a game they love changes.

Also adding the fact that 24 characters can fit at once on the 3DS, 47 seems like a safe bet (leaving one for random). The question is will Mii take 3 spots or 1?

But if you're going by the later Gematsu rumors, isn't DLC coming? That idea of a 47 slots format based on the 3ds demo screen, and the assumption that there'll be some "second screen" doesn't really matter that much.

9th thread already.

Nothing stops this train.

Right! NO ONE but moderators!

Ugh screw that leak. This game still needs playable Isaac and a Golden Sun stage for the music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBHVhDLoRx0

Agreed. If Isaac didn't make it then I would love Golden Sun stage to be the representative of the franchise.

Edit: also hope they make palutena's model more expressive, she looks like a doll right now.

I think they are trying too hard to make her serene but they went over the top.

IntelliHeaLth asked people to bring in the toxic from the other thread. I hate all of you, especially you reading this, and you stink at Smashin your bros. Something something booty.

hi everyone

Hey and nice mistake there! ;P

New thread for a fresh new start, let's all be happy and Smash together (soon) !

Happy, Joy, Peace!

I thought Wario would also be a sure goner, if he wasn't in Brawl and when Mario has his colors?

Naw, Wario is 100% shoo-in tho.

If they're going to replace Ivysaur, I want Sceptile.

Also Gematsu never mentioned Rosalina & Luma right?

Right, they never did.

I wonder... Mii clothes unlockable through buying?

I don't mind to see that happening. That would be fun to collecting.

Definitely will be seperate OTs since they're on different platforms and have different release dates. However they'll probably end up merging eventually

Yeah, we will have two separate OTs since they are somewhat different since Smash Run will be 3DS exclusive mode.

I spoke to moderator and he said that they wouldn't merged at all so I think it's great idea to keep it separate.

I don't know about thread title spoiler policy when the japan release rolls around unfortunately

I will make sure that there is no spoilers in title until a month AFTER all games got released in worldwide.

Nine threads in a year. That's a nice pace. Who do we think will be revealed in the span of this thread?

Yeah, I would speculated that we would get 3 veterans in this thread.

DaBoss ninjaed me :P

i was going to post the video about marht counter and... BAM!!

I think that counter is pretty strong.

damn it all I can think about is the E3 demo now

hold me, Smash GAF...

That's why I would't play demo because I don't want to think about it. :P

New thread already?? I'm shouldn't be surprised since its right after the Digital Event, the tourney, and the demo but still.

Yeah, too much information and arguments really racking up for old thread.

But I want Heath as king.

Thanks! :P

Hello, new thread.

Hello Star-Lord.

DK doesn't actually have a new stage yet does he? Rather odd. Also Star Fox, Kirby and Yoshi (correct me if I'm wrong). Of course unrevealed characters like Wario and Captain Falcon don't have their stage yet either.

I'm still waiting for more stages for those franchise that haven't got one yet.

Updated, running out of material to work with though.

Look pretty nice! :)

Found this on Smash Boards. While we know this isn't anywhere near the final version of the game. The Nintendo reps seem to have been playing the different builds and know the differences concerning characters.

"I'm using Mario right now, but I'm not... In this build... ehhh..." At 24:03.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edCQDRuL8Dk&list=PL2JiZAV5BmDWcPKIfaeijxnxFU7iT-dX4#t=1443

That's interesting. I wonder if he implying that next demo is much better than what we thought?

Wow, another thread. Crazy stuff, guys.

Totally crazy!

Lip gets a pass from me just because I want to see a character with a targeted swap mechanic in a game as explicitly position based as Smash is. Just looking at this is enough to sell me on the concept without even considering the character:

I can't really see Lip working like that. If she does then she will be bottom tier in term of being pretty bad with slowness.

Street Fighter is actually one of the slowest and most ground based fighters around. If you want that comparison to be apt, cite Guilty Gear or the Marvel vs. series.

I would contest this. Greatly. Furthermore, that's just one of the specials. Alas, as this is all about a hypothetical inclusion based on a random net person's interpretation of the character, it doesn't really matter.

Edit: If you're thinking about the startup animations on the switch, that could just be done in a totally different manner/faster.

This goes from the assumption that casuals are ignorant and don't notice when a game they love changes.

And yours stems from the assumption that casual players are completely aware of all the game mechanics and will throw a hissyfit no matter what happens?

At the end of a day an attack doing less damage or more knockback doesn't change very much when you're not playing on the upper end. You might notice it, but Thunder doing a few percentage points less damage isn't going to change how you use the move, just perhaps the frequency of it.

-who will win thread 9 now?

Low. He's technically a third-party character and it seems like they're done with those now.

Yeah, I got the same feeling since the trailer seem to emphasized on the third party characters, so I'm petty much moved on with Snake.

Yeah, its part of the reason why I was so sad Airdash Online disappeared because after handling the demo I saw how amazingly fast and easy it was going to be to pick up and just how much depth of potential it had. Had Mew2King behind it too and a lot of good talent...I truly hope it returns someday.

As for your channel I'll support it. I'm in much the same boat. I can wavedash and do some tricks, but largely I am just a heavy fan of the scene who lurks. I tend to do good with awkward cast. I've diehard mained Ganondorf since Melee in spite of his many flaws, and I honestly do really well with Dedede and Ness. Ness is especially good in Project M now with the electric and fire adjustments they made and Dorf's armor is sweet.

For Smash 4 though I know solidly I will be playing a lot of Lil Mac. Fits my armored ground game style heavily. Outside of that I see Greninja as another I'm interested in. Not certain who will fulfill my alternate strengh of playing floaty zoners with strong upsmash juggles, but I'll be looking around. I keep thinking it'll be a surprise who I get good at in that respect. Villager looks good for me too. I think I can do some things with his tools.

Hit me up sometime once you get smash online. I'll play you.

I'm happy that based from game impressions, Kirby is pretty high tier. He's my longest main since Smash 64, and I'm bummed that he's been nerfed ever since. Glad for some Kirby buffs.

What are we defining "casual" Smash player as? I'd argue that if you're able to be upset by a small % change for a move, you're not exactly a "casual" player.

Actualy, I found it funny to watch interviews with some of the players that were at the invitational compared to what people were saying online, non of them asked for l-canceling or wave dashing, all they want is more movement options. Also their general reaction seems to be a lot more positive compared to the online comunity.

This game will never be melee and I don't think the loud minority undestands that, I just hope they aren't loud enough to make sakurai add some stupid moves to the game.

I actualy think, like brawl did, this game will devolep a tournament scene, even if nothing changes from the current build.

Regarding the whole 3DS CSS discussion a page or so back, they could easily have multiple pages.

OR, better yet.. this was a DEMO?!

L-canceling and wavedashing are movement options lol. And one of the people in the invitational was one of the first to publicly complain about the game.

We're counting on it having multiple pages, two pages would give exactly 48 spots. And past demo select screens have largely reflected the final one. This has already been discussed, the select screens still heavily favor 47 characters.

Airdash Online

No lies, I was kinda upset when this came about because I had/have a pretty fat stack of design documents for a "platform fighter" and the Air Dash thing seems to be the low hanging fruit that both myself and the team behind that KS had in common for giving the game a legit twist. :lol

Still so upset that it didn't break out though.

As long as the modification you're asking for doesn't make me push buttons extremely quickly, I'm open to it. I think landing lag may be a punishment for missing an aireal, its also entirely possible the game could just be in an early form.

About the Gemastu Leak and the Chorus Men.

Everyone seems to think they're going to look something like this.

I have a gut feeling it may be the "Chorus Kids" and it'll be these three from Rhythm Heaven Fever.
