If they're debating cutting Lucas, and it's ~4 months to the 3DS launch, then it almost certainly has nothing to do with who's more deserving and more to do with "shit, we might not have time to finish both." In which case, Ness has more popularity due to being in all 3 Smashes as opposed to just one, so thus he wins out.

Great update! While im mostly gonna main brawler...this is something good to keep in mind. :D

I am also one of the people that wants Lucas back.....hes too wonderful to use, unlike the weird Ness @_@ (Talking control feel wise, calm down)

Didn't Gematsu's source say that they obtained all this information prior to last year's E3? So the talk about Lucas getting cut versus Ness would have been from way back then, right?

Sakurai has said before he doesn't want fighting game characters in the game.

He even joked at the roundtable that Namco suggested Heihachi first and he had to insist on Pac-Man.

Source?

Little Mac was in many games compared to other characters(+ he's a nintendo classic) but he was just added.
Little Mac was only in one game before Punch-Out Wii!! and that game came out after Brawl.

Ice Climbers were in just one game.
Ice Climbers are representatives of their series. Ness already reps the Mother series as much as it needs to be repped, any additional characters should only get in if they're unique.

Pit was in two.
Three actually, with the third game being very popular and very successful, unlike Mother 3.

To which part?

I am having major deja vu because I feel like I posted this exact quote here before.

http://nintendoeverything.com/why-sakurai-isnt-keen-on-adding-fighting-characters-to-smash-bros/

“The biggest feature we look at in Smash Bros. is, ‘What does this character bring to Smash Bros. that other characters don’t?’ If you look at… someone from a fighting game already, and people like fighting with this character, from my point of view, it’s like ‘this guy does what this guy already does. He fills the role that this character already has. So while you may like this character and he’s interesting, that doesn’t really merge well, here.”

Am I the only one who thinks Shulk's inclusion is a bit weird? I don't dislike the character or anything. I thought Xenoblade was very good, just I've played tons of jrpgs and the characters and story didn't really grab me. The other third party characters are legends: Snake, Sonic, Pac-Man - they've decades and tons of games under their belts. Shulk just had 1 good recent jrpg yet he gets in?

What can Shulk even do gameplay-wise to make himself unique? It's been a long time, but I remember his sword gets big for some reason and there's stuff with robots (I think).

Shulk is first party. Lower barrier of entrance. And having one game under his belt already puts him ahead of Roy in SSBM, so...why not?

Already did in the form of Lucario.

That's a funny way to spell "Ike".

I'm not sure the leak was that specific, but either way I imagine the roster was finalized way back when and so any debates about Lucas' inclusion were done at the onset

Agreed. Wonder if Namco insisted on Heihachi with Sony didn't fight for anyone else. The Prince from Katamari would have been a waaayy better Sony rep.

Heihachi's the only third party rep in PSASBR that made sense, I think. He is pretty much Tekken. Jin might have done, as well, but Heihachi also covers the first two games well.

Punch-out, Super Punch-out plus the arcades.

That's why I'm saying Lucas should be different. And no, I really can't see Ice Climbers being the same as Mother.

By the time Brawl was released, only two. The third one became a reality after Pit's inclusion on Brawl.

So what you're saying is EXACTLY what I said?
If you're trying argue about the game might end up being offensive after all then I disagree and think given everything we know about the game this far we can comfortably assume it will be the same type of "brawl" defensive unless it changes course

What I was saying is, you were judging based off of how Ken played MArth. The game is closer to Brawl than Melee, we know that. Given the short time the players got toplay smash4, Ken likely would've decided to go with a more brawl style Marth rather than a Melee style Marth, as the 1st fit in more with smash4.

HOWEVER, we DO NOT know whether the marth in smash4 will be entirely different. Ken likely went the safe route and tried to do what he could do in brawl, and what he knew how to do. We do not know, and can not truly assume your point just based on Ken's marth

But Fighting Polygon was a cancelled fighting game and they were in Smash Bros. 64!

He will put Sukapon and Ryu in this game and like it! They're totally the same thing.

Ok what the hell is that? I keep seeing that "P" guy....did Namco make a anime of sorts?
Puchimas, which is an iM@S spinoff (also source of my avatar). IM@S has an anime, mangas and a film. Puchimas started off as a manga but now has a short web show (episodes are three minutes long). It has over 120 episodes.

120!!??!? YINKIES!

...I really want to get into iM@S an give it a shot.

Basically, I was told that:

- Last E3 before game's launch (obviously)
- Participating characters: Pac-Man, Mii Fighter, Goddess Palutena, Shulk, Chrom, Chorus Men (none of these are new, obv, so I take he means these are the participating characters for E3?)
- There has been internal debate about keeping Lucas versus Ness, apparently Lucas is likely to get the cut
- Nintendo is planning post-launch character DLC, source doesn't like this as he thinks it's greedy

It's not really clear...but I take that bolded part to mean that this information was obtained by the source prior to last year's E3. Otherwise, why say that at all? It's kind of odd.

Lol, seriously Namco?

Thank god for Sakurai, who the fuck would want Heihachi over Pacman in Smash?

At least the old baldy will always have Playstation All-Stars.

just realised that when geoff said "and we've got someone way in the back voting for Mario, I wonder who that could be..", he was hinting to Miyamoto being back there watching

Well like I said the puchimas episodes are only like 3 minutes long so thats like 6 hours of a show which is about the equivalent to around 15 normal length shows of 24 minute. The standard iM@S show is just 26 episodes.

Pic of the day. Here are some weapons the Mii Swordfighter can use: Shurikens of Light, Chakrams, and Gale Strikes. You can control the direction the Chakram is thrown, or even make it stall in midair. The Chakram is also the only one of these tied to the side special move, so you can use one of the other items consecutively with this one.

I seriously cant wait to see how competitive players go about using and debating the mii fighter, so many things I want to see

Cut Falco (even though I like him more than Fox) and keep Wolf. Change wolf a bit more so he's a more hard hitting but slower Fox. I'd rather Fox and wolf as the only clones in that series rather than bringing back Falco and having 3 clones from the same IP again.

It makes no sense at all to cut Wolf over Falco. Yeah, sure, seniority and all, but really, Wolf is more different from Fox than Falco is, plus he's a villain/rival character, of which we have very few of in Smash Bros. And Wolf was planned to be in Smash Bros. before Falco ever was, too.

But really, I can't imagine either one being cut.

Jesus, none of the 3 starfox chracters are getting cut
