I wonder if nintendo will demo smash 4 at evo. Unless nintendo made significant changes, I think it'll generate negative reactions since its simplified compared to other smash's.
"We'd just like to reassure everyone that the game is currently unfinished. We took feedback from the community last month at E3 and everything is being considered. However, this demo build is the same as the one that was playable at E3, so we hope you enjoy it."

Is that right? Not having darkened the doorstep of a McDonald's in years, I didn't know that. What a world.
You always could just buy the toys(at least here in Socal, YMMV) but the practice didn't pick up steam until San Fran banned the practice of bundling toys with Happy Meals to help prevent child obesity.

In the past week, we've had people seriously try to argue that:

- Pac-Man is unpopular/has no gaming legacy and "no one cares about him"
- Ganondorf is a joke character akin to Dan
- Any Mega Man game besides 1-10 is not a "mainline" Mega Man game

And other asinine things I'm sure I'm forgetting about.

Jesus. Never change, SmashGAF. <3

In other news, veteran next week? I'm thinking there's a chance.

I've been feeling a veteran all this week. We're still overdue for Game and Watch at least, who there's no real reason not to debut at this point.

But as we approach the 3DS release date, I would really like to start seeing content from franchises that have been under-showcased. It would be nice to see some Star Fox or Mother stuff, characters or not.

Edit: Accidental consecutive posts. Pardon.

Sounds like a good week to me!

I agree the first two are ridiculous, but what's wrong with the third statement? Maybe "mainline" isn't the word but 1-10 (Mega Man & Bass too I suppose) are the only games in the classic series, which is the one that has playable representation in Smash. Not to discredit X or any of the other spin-offs but I generally look at them as their own thing separate from the classic series.

I'd say we got off easy this week. At least everything was related to Smash.

I mean, Rockman and Forte is pretty much Mega Man 9 before Mega Man 9, but besides that, there's tons of spin-offs, and then everything else is its own series, right? MMX series, MMZ series, MML, MMBN...

Yeah, this. The others are good games, many are major or otherwise classic games, but they take their own directions independent of the core Mega Man series.

I'd compare it to calling Yoshi's Island a mainline Mario game.
And before say it, it didn't have the Super Mario World 2 moniker in Japan.

Uh, wouldn't this be true? It's like how the Metroid Prime series aren't mainline Metroid games; it's a spinoff series in the same universe. Those spinoffs are often better than the mainline games, but they're still their own thing.

Doesn't matter anyway, for the same reason Metroid Prime not being "mainline" doesn't matter.

Well, I'm not participating in this. It was pointless the first time anyway.

Man. I've been lurking on GAF for years, but somehow it never was clear to me until I started posting for myself how defensive people can be. This is a discussion board, for discussing things, it doesn't need to be dismissive counter-points all the time.

Some people see Mega Man as several different series, like Super Mario to Paper Mario to Mario Galaxy. Some people see Mega Man as one series, like "Mario Games."

People who grew up on consoles have no attachment to arcade properties and feel differently about about characters like Pac Man. Some people don't care how familiar they are with characters and appreciate relevance and historical impact regardless of individual experience.

Some people think Ganondorf is funny. Some just think he's bad.

Like, quit throwing little fits everyone. We can talk about the things we like without also tearing each other down.

we all have our favorite types of cake. some of us like frosting, some don't. but that doesn't mean we have to be mean to each other. after all, its just cake! it's meant to be enjoyed by all~

I nominate Braviary to replace Mewtwo that way Murica gets a well deserved spot since without us there would be no Nintendo. Fuck yeah.

Dude, Ganondorf is totally a joke character in Brawl. If all joke characters are cakes, Pichu is a wedding cake, and Ganondorf is a cupcake.

There has been less rage since the post E3 arguments though.

Please GAF, make Chrom sound more exciting. I need you.
Chrom casually hunts bears. For food. Like "I'll go gather food" and then he comes back with a dead bear. To be roasted on a stick over an open flame. He does that in the first chapter of the game.

In all seriousness, I don't KNOW how to envision Chrom as an exciting addition. What would Chrom do that Marth doesn't already?

But Sakurai has said that newcomers in this game are based on bringing something new to the experience. He might, and hopefully, have something unexpected planned for Chrom. Maybe he'll have javelins. That's exciting, right?

well if we look at most of the newcomers added they've all been pretty crazy different, either in style or in actual play. Villager is Phoenix-Wright style 'normal actions that somehow do damagfe', Wii Fit Wii Fits, Megaman is largely ranged play or boss attacks, Rosalina is a stand user, Lil' Mac is a powerhouse with horrible recovery, Greninja is all fast and stealthy, who knows what's going on with the Miis, Palutena's moves are all powerups from Kid Icarus (!) and Pac Man gonna chomp. So if Chrom is in, I don't know that he'd just be sword guy again. Maybe partner mechanic, i dunno.

I keep saying: Make him a weapons master with all of FE's main weapons!

That doesn't fit with Chrom's "popular depiction" as a swordsman, which is what he's undoubtedly going to be. Smash Bros. tends to focus on what a character is best known for. I do think Lucina will appear in Chrom's move set (maybe as a Final Smash) since pairing up was such a heavily promoted new feature, though.

I'm thinking Chrom may have one or several moves similar to Zelda's Phantom Slash, where he conjures up a separate character that deals out an attack. At its most extreme, I picture Sumia on her pegasus serving as his recovery, or Frederick on his horse attacking as his side special. His special could be a ranged attack in the form of Robin appearing at his side to cast a spell, and his down special could heal him or others by calling upon his sister, Lissa. And of course, for the final smash, Lucina pops out of a time-travel portal to help him tag-team the enemy in a flurry of critical strikes.

That being said, I still love the idea of a "Chrom & Lucina" adult-sized Ice Climber-type character that doubles up on each hit and perhaps has one protecting the other at key moments or even boosting each other's jumps.

I legitimately sat here staring at the text box for like ten minutes trying to come up with an interesting way Chrom could play without Pair Up. I just... he's got the Fire Emblem as a shield, so maybe a more defensive play-style?

...

God, fuck Chrom.

He's got my trust in making an interesting moveset. Still get bowled over sometimes at how different Wolf is from Fox.

It means we're probably getting this music in the game somewhere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMyrDuk2Z9Q

Already confirmed to play in Arena Ferox. :D
