Depend on fanbases, there are some people that felt that Kid Icarus should not have second representative because it's a new franchise in their eye, and it's way smaller than Kirby Franchise.

Also there are some people that claimed that Sakurai are playing favoritism with KI:U characters because he worked on it. So you could imagine how it would blow up when we get third representative.

Yeah, but the post you were replying to was about how Kirby was a large franchise even back in 64.

Kid Icarus isn't a large franchise now. Getting a third rep would be silly.

I'm kinda surprised that at 10 weeks away, there hasn't been any sort of announcement for a Smash themed 3DS XL. Was reaaaally hoping they'd do one cause I was gonna use that as my opportunity to finally upgrade to one and let my OoT 3DS rest up a bit.

I suspect it'd probably make a decent chunk of people happy actually. Which chunk depends on which character it is, but just as you can't please everyone, I'm sure any of the major KI:R characters would please a bunch of peoples :D

I'd be in the section of people happy for Viridi (though I'd happily give Amazonian Pandora, Medusa or Phosphora a shot :P )
 
Today I went back to Rhythm Heaven Fever and completed the main set of mini-games. Watching the credits I found out that Marshal is actually called Matt in the European versions. I know the supposed leaks strictly mention it being the "Chorus Men", but say if Marshal/Matt did make an appearance then the ambiguity between English versions may be a bit confusing for some, and perhaps why they would've opted for the Chorus Men/Man instead.

It's strange they'd change the name of a character when porting it to another English country - if it's another language I can understand. I had no idea he had a different name until now.

Marshal was never in a Chorus though. And Chorus Men is the name of another character. It's like calling Greninja "Politoed" because the name isn't the same in all languages.
 
I dont think the number of reps has anything to do with the roster initial selection.

I believe that Sakurai chooses the character based solely on the character, not on secondary (read- non gameplay relevant) reasons like how many characters serie Y has.

I mean, Rosetta is one of the most unique characters confirmed, would it be fair to her unique moveset to be discarded because she is another Mario character?*

Eh... I don't think that's true. Even in your Rosalina example, Mario isn't exactly a minor series. It's not a coincidence that the bigger franchises have more characters.

Of course, that does explain why something like Pikmin or Animal Crossing only has one character.

As has been discussed with you before though, I think most would agree there's probably some sort of correlation or connection/evolution with the "Chorus Men" and Marshal/Matt. The example you gave is something completely different.

All I'm saying is, if the Chorus Men are definitely in, maybe that particular design was chosen since there was a disparity in the naming of their successor (and also because they may prove to be a more unique choice).

It was just a musing really; because when I started playing RHF I thought maybe Marshal would make more sense as a mascot of sorts. We still don't know anything obviously if that leak if true or not, but it was just something I found out and thought I'd share.

A lot of people feel Smash is a celebration of Nintendo's history.

A single recent game in a long dead series isn't a very large part of Nintendo's history.
 
Going over some of the music in Brawl/ProjectM I've notice that one Ice Climber stage (Summit) has some very good music. Balloon Trip is awesome, Clu Clu Land is good, and whatever Shin Onigashima comes from is outstanding! Shame they're only available in that bad stage. :/

I believe your right. I doubt Sakurai would ever prevent himself from adding a character based on arbitrary reasons like the number of games in the series. Three Star Fox reps is good proof of this.

Pretty much, the difference between wekend and weekday SmashGAF is that during the week, we have a shiny new PoTD to distract us and force us to talk Smash Bros for a longer time

While this is true, KI is a curious case.
Pit's "revival" happened in Brawl, and unlike G&W and ICs, who were translated to be as true as possible to their original games, Sakurai decided to completely change his design, give him moves and atributes like if Pit was a brand new character. Also Sakurai work on uprising basically made brawl Pit canon.
Im not saying that KI will get a third rep, but the amount of effort that Sakurai put in Uprising, and the positive reception it got... I dont think Nintendo would lose this oportunity to get another "system seller serie" to their platform.

Daisy and Rosalina: Princesses with different color schemes, hair styles, and overall body shape
Marshal and Chorus Kid: White, short, simplistic-looking cat-like creatures that may very well be the same species, the only noticeable differences are that one has fingers and feet and the other has a bowtie

And one is a group of kids in a chorus, and the other isn't, which is why the distinction is made in their names. They're different characters as much as any of those other groups are.

I like the music selection there too.
 
Wouldn't it be beneficial to have a thread for Project M? It's known that many don't venture into this thread (as seen with new threads for new news) and they may be interested in participating. Just a thought.

That's not a bad idea. Also would make chatting in-between matches easier and less annoying for those not involved.
