Sakurai and Kojima thing is because they are best friends and Kojima wanted it for his son at time of brawl.Kojima didn't care at melee time and probably didn't push as hard for Smash 4 as his son is probably old by now.
It wasn't about status with Snake.
Anyway , it must be amazing to be son of gaming icon and getting things only possible by rare connections.

Because if Snake isn't in, they want something more M-rated and well known to crowds...plus the play style would be incredibly unique, while I think Rayman would not have been very unique compared to other characters.
Not to say Shulk isn't getting revealed today, but this would be a huge upset if the trailer revealed both of them.

Ezio, Desmond, etc. I'm aware they're different, I'd just prefer them as far away from Smash as possible.
The line: "to our surprise, they sent us data of a brand new 3D model that they rendered for this game!!" Makes me confident rayman isn't playable, though. If he was playable, sakurai and team would have made a model for him and would have used that model to make him a trophy. I think we're ok. We're not safe from other ubi reps, though

To be honest, Altair or Ezio would've fit perfectly in PSASBR and I was actually kinda disappointed neither of them made it in.
But yeah, no place for them in Smash.

I must of missed something, I was only seeing shock. Are people legit livid over Rayman? Honestly, visually and thematically, I think he'd be a good fit. Surprising choice and maybe a bit of a stretch (no worse than Snake though), but a good fit.
Interesting though. I mean, I'm pretty sure today's reveal isn't going to be my favorite pick

Rayman really threw me for a loop this morning. I never thought he'd be in this series in any way, shape, or form. It's pretty strange that they'd get a third party character just to include him as a trophy, but I have a feeling Ubisoft was pretty insistent if they went as far as providing a new model.
It's more disappointment on my part than anger. I'm not a fan of ubi, EA, or activision, and therefore don't really want to support their practices. If me buying smash means they even get one penny from me, it makes me a bit upset, but not enough to not buy smash bros. I have huge respect for michael ancel but I hate the people he works for.
