It's because I go to bed around this time and wake up when the pic of the day gets posted.

Ridley can never be deconfirmed thanks to my sleeping schedule, because nobody talks about him as much as I do.
 
Isaac and Ray 01 are cool Nintendo characters. Relevance is irrelevant and arbitrary categories such as "retro" and "wtf" are completely made up and realistically have nothing to do with how a character would be chosen.

I wouldn't say it has NOTHING to do with it. Even WTF characters are retroactively justifiable. I wouldn't say there has ever been a single Smash character that didn't make sense as an addition in retrospect.

And I wouldn't say "retro" and "wtf" are arbitrary. Sakurai himself has spoken about what a privilege it is to breathe new life into specifically retro characters and said Wii Fit Trainer was specifically chosen as a character nobody asked for. If that's not the case definition of each term I don't know what is.

Edit: I think the biggest deciding factor is how many people would be happy to play as a character. Will the general population enjoy a character? Will people be pleased to see them? Who is Sakurai catering to with the addition of a character like Isaac? Because, as much as it would pain me to lose him, this is probably why Lucas will be cut (if he is).

Yeah, I think finding a fighting style that will work for their normal attacks is paramount.
 
I think Ray is perfectly suitable to be in. I think Kid Icarus and Ice Climbers show your series doesn't need to be recent to get in. Also there have been several Custom-Robo games.

I rather have representation from Nintendo series with multiple entries like Custom-Robo or Chibi-Robo before adding another character Mario, Zelda or Pokemon rep. I feel Donkey Kong and Metroid third reps should take priority though and probably a second Wario rep as well.

Folks bring up "WHAT IF THE PLAYABLE RIDLEY IS THE CLASSIC ONE AND THE BOSS ON PYROSPHERE IS THE DIFFERENT OTHER M ONE" and like...no...aside from grasping at straws, it's the same thing as Dark Pit being a separate character, readability is hugely necessary in a game like Smash. You can't have a Bowser's Castle stage where Bowser shows up as a boss but he's covered in rainbows like in Mario 64 or something, it'd be weird and confusing.

I'd love to be wrong, but it's like...come on, man...don't do this to yourselves, guys...;_;

I mostly agree with the gist of your post. Im personally expecting the worst but hoping for the best. I think there is something weird going on with the teasing perhaps just boss mode but who knows.

However I'd like to point out that your argument completely falls apart since we have Conductor Toon Link in the background of one stage in addition to Toon Link being playable. Its not likely but they could have Clone Ridley as a boss for the Pyrosphere who is bigger and does a lot of damage while having regular Ridley as a playable character. When Ridley is on the stage the Clone doesn't appear. If they can do conductor and toon link, I see little reason against them doing something similar with Ridley if they wanted.
