Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I don't see there ever being a 2D character in Smash Bros. besides Mr. Game & Watch. That's part of what makes him unique, and it fits him best since he's the oldest playable character in the series.

T-tomorrows potd is going to be a veteran r-right?

I think Ganondorf may actually have a chance, the hyrule warriors direct finishes before the potd gets released right?

Also I got another, similarly bad, nose bleed today. I'm going to die aren't I? Who will be the voice of cynicism when I'm gone?!

Next newcomer video will be all about flat characters: It will feature Game and Watch in a game and watch themed stage. All of a sudden, a beat starts playing and the camera pulls back to reveal that the stage is actually the game and watch themed game from Rhythm Heaven, and the chorus kids are revealed. The two dance to the beat, but one of them is bopped on the head by a hammer, in time with the music. It's Paper Mario! A few in-game shots of the three characters are shown, revealing some of their movesets. Camera fades to black, but then fades back up to show Ridley, face down on the ground. "I'll get my chance... another day." he says, as he turns his head from the camera.

"No, you'll get your chance today!" says the text on the bottom. Cue footage of the flat Ridley sprite from the original metroid appearing as part of Game and Watch's new final smash, which summons a bunch of flat boss spirtes from past Nintendo games.

I know this a joke, but this is like my dream reveal. As long as Shulk's still on the way.

Masked Man, Geno, Shulk, Kamek.

This list doesn't have Mallo, a character owned entirely by Nintendo, in 3 recent games, a sumo wrestler (the type of fighter smash still doesn't have), AND one of the best new IPs from Nintendo.

Therefore the list is invalid.

He's the hero we NEED!

Someone seems sour about Chrom.

Rhythm Heaven enemies in Smash Run are 2D. Also, Wario has several incarnations to draw from, several of which are 3D, while the Chorus Kids have always appeared in 2D games.
Biker Wario, Ashley, and Kat & Ana have always been depicted in the same art style as the Chorus Kids, but they all have 3D models in Smash Bros. Just because the Sneaky Spirit enemy is 2D doesn't mean the Chorus Kids have to be -- there are a few sprite-based enemies like Cucco and Lakitu, but obviously Link and Mario are 3D.

If stage bosses aren't toggle-able, then I really hope there are only two or three in each version. Yellow Devil made Wily's Castle look absolutely unplayable, and I'd hate to have to switch off half the stages just because of bosses.

Fair enough. I actually really like Ashley's AT, though I don't care for Kat & Ana's (solely in terms of how they look), so I think they'll look good regardless. That said, I still personally think they'll be in 2D.

Shouldn't the "For Glory" final destination version suffice?

Not if it removes all the platforms and other features that make the stages unique. FD Wily's Castle would be okay, though, since it'd only be removing those two little platforms off to the side. That shouldn't make too big a difference.

Also, we're talking about Pokemon poop and it isn't even the weekend. The closer we get to release, the worse things seem to get.

EDIT: even my ninja edit didn't stop me from getting beaten.

Yeah guess it will depend on if Sakurai considers bosses to be stage hazards or something different. If it's the later we may be able to toggle them off, I kind of doubt it though

I doubt it too. That's why I'm concerned that stage bosses might disrupted the battles too frequently or so; Example: Yellow Devil. I would like to able to enjoy Palutena's Temple, Pyrosphere and Dr. Wily's Temple without having boss out there, but it's unlikely tho.

I will enjoy the stages either way.

Not really. Final Destination's fun and all, but I like to have some variaton in how the platforms are. Megaman's stage looked like a lot of fun with it's rotating platforms. It'd be a really fun and unique competitive stage if we could turn the Yellow Devil off.

Likewise, Pyrosphere will be a fun competitive stage. Especially since it won't have a stage boss (I hope).

Yeah, it's my biggest disappointment so far. Some of the stages are really cool if you wanna play 'no items, no randomness', but then they have hazards that kinda ruin it :/ Here's to hoping stage editor is good and allows you to use tilesets from nintendo franchises :/

...Greudo valley?

Koume and Kotake are stage hazards, not bosses, right? You don't seem to attack them; they just fly in, do their thing, and then fly off.

Find Mii; I can't not see the Ultimate Demon having that much presence and not being a boss.

Ah, that's right. At least he gives buffs and stuff
insert buff bagwell joke here
, so he's a little more interesting than Yellow Devil.

Eh, I don't see any reason to be disappointed until it's confirmed we can't turn them off.

Other than Wily's Castle, do we know of any 3DS stages that have/are likely to have stage bosses?

Not a one. Gerudo Valley sort of does, but there's no reward for attacking it that we know of.
However, I think N's Castle would be fairly likely, with N using Reshiram/Zekrom as a boss.

to be honest I'm not a big fan of the competitive side of smash bros
Neither am I. Sakurai's latest Famitsu column sums up my thoughts:
Masahiro Sakurai said:
There are mountains of other games that are made with competitive play in mind. I want to keep the balance of being a rough party game where you don’t have to get worked up over wins and losses. Smash Bros. isn’t a fighting game, it’s an action game with battle (fighting) elements. It’s a game you gather around and just play together.
