People speculate that returns was originally a wii game and that K. Rool was going to be controlling the tiki tak tribe in that get up.

Yeah, I figured that's the most likely theory, but K Rool's outfit was definitely Egyptian, while the Tiki Tak inspiration is decidedly not. It'd just be kinda odd, though I suppose his getup doesn't always need to tie in to the enemy theme.

They were too lazy to animate the cape.

Heh, I guess that's possible. Seems a pretty drastic change for simply making the outfit more functional, though.

Don't forget Dark Samus!

so speaking of k rool

i was just playing mario super sluggers and that pharoah outfit is bizarre, man. like, jungle climber came out not too long before and even used the same render pose, but had a more standard outfit. it seems too weird for a permanent change, but why even include it in a baseball spinoff?

i'm convinced there must be some kind of story behind it, because it's just too odd. wonder what it means.

Yeah, the design change was always a strange thing to me. Because of all games it could've debuted in, it was... a baseball spin-off. I actually welcomed the change, since they slightly modified his base appearance rather than just the outfit. They gave him a somewhat more stocky build, and got rid of the (overly apparent) bloated, blood-shot eye and gold-plated belly.

If there's one thing going against Hyrule Warriors Ganondorf, it's the fact that he doesn't have a cape.

That armour and those gauntlets tho

I also wish Sakurai would just say "fuck it" to non-canon representation in Smash. Dr. Mario was his own character in Melee. So why not? I would have loved to see Hyrule Warriors Ganondorf/Link/Zelda instead of the same ass Twilight Princess versions again.

What if Smash got a port in those cheap Tiger Electronics LCD games

The only characters would be game and watch and all you'd be able to do is a punch, throw a sausage or jump.

It isn't canon on GAF.

It's not canon in a lot of places considering how much they retconned from the rest of the franchise, several games in the Metroid series shouldn't exist if Other M is canon because the events that set them in motion wouldn't work in an Other M world.

A lot of people want HW Ganondorf in Smash, but HW is not canon. I will not have non-canon material in my Smash!

Non-canon material in our non-canon Nintendo universe smash-up?! Blasphemy! :P

Also Other M became non-canon the instant they decided it couldn't exist within the same universe as Prime.

So far I've only ever seen me speculating that. :P

But come on, Aztec clothing? The majority of ruins in DKCR are based on Aztec ruins. The timing of when the story of DKCR was being conceived and when Baseball was getting their assets lines up. Also Baseball on the GCN got assets from New Super Mario Bros before it was even released, so it's not unheard of for them to have alpha/beta assets in Baseball.

Makes me wonder if in DKCR3 we'll see some grand plan where K.Rool actually orchestrated the previous two games villains and was the main villain all along. I think Retro wants to use him, they nodded at him in Tropical Freeze and it would be a nice way to end a trilogy.

Sakamoto said the Prime games weren't canon.

Why do you clump zelda/sheik and samus/ZSS together, when they're not clones at all, they play entirely differently, etc, but you don't clump pichu and pikachu together? I get that Zelda/sheik and samus/ZSS are the same PERSON, lore-wise, but in smash bros, they play very differently, even if they previously shared a roster slot. Is it just because of the roster slot? Because if that's the case, why do you clump link/toon link/young link together?
This was really hard for me to decide, but after discussing it with a few people I just decided to go with if they're technically the same person to just have them occupy one voting spot; I guess the one bend in the rule is the Link situation, as lore wise their technically different people, but I just made a judgment call and had them together. I know lore wise every Link is different, but on a surface level Link is Link and, at least most people I know outside of GAF, will use the various Links interchangeably. Because of that, much like with the Mario/Dr. Mario situation, I just put them together.

I guess I could of clumped Pikachu and Pichu together, though at least in that case I don't foresee Pichu taking any votes away from Pikachu. :P

Because they were retconned, or in Prime's case, aren't canon. Metroid doesn't make sense in a Zero Mission world either lol.

Sakamoto said the Prime games weren't canon.

Other M makes Super, Fusion and Zero Mission not canon by introducing a lot of stupid shit into the universe of Metroid.
As well as other things that contradict the Prime trilogy, Super, Fusion, Zero Mission and Metroid 2.

Also the game is just trite, through and through.

Hopefully the next game will retcon Other M, but I can't see such a thing happening if that twat sakamoto is at the helm.

I still find it incredibly hard to believe that the man behind Super Metroid made Other M, ugh.

Other M's plot doesn't make sense within the context of the manga (Everything with Samus leaving the Federation), Zero Mission (The way the Space Pirates held an archaeological dig), Prime trilogy (Space Pirate diaries and serving under the Feds), Metroid 2 (Unfreezable Metroids!), and Fusion (Samus, doesn't this all seem familiar?).

That's because Other M doesn't make sense within the context of anything.

Prime was never announced non-canon.

Split-timelines. That's the answer to everything Nintendo does now adays. If and when Nintendo does a new Metroid game, there will be the Other M timeline and the Prime timeline.

There should be an Other M timeline and a "stuff that's actually good" timeline.

Maybe Prime Hunters can stay in the Other M timeline.

The worst thing about Other M by far is its uncanny ability to derail any conversation of anything tangentially related to Metroid with talk of canon and Samus' characterization and whether or not there was a decent game at all beneath the shitty story.

The answer to that last one is no, by the way.

It's actually yes. :)

Most fun game on the Wii, slightly ahead of Mario Galaxy games.

My favorite Metroid timeline is the one where Samus got stuck inside a pinball machine.

Galactic Pinball comes first, then Metroid Prime Pinball.

The Other M timeline is just Other M sitting on it's own separate from the rest of the series, right?

That's what it should be, anyway.

Why did you post a pictures of a high school student, a middle-aged salaryman, a college sophomore, a skincare product model, a homeless man, and 6th grade best friend's mom in a thread about Smash Bros.?

Also where were these Link and Ganondorf toys when I was a kid? I remember seeing FFVII toys at Toys R Us and it blew my mind. They came in a set though and it was about $50 total, what a buzzkill.
