how the hell do lucina's shoes even work when there's no laces and large chunks of the sides have been cut out

Well, I'd imagine that the actual shoe looking part is merely dressing, the boot itself extends all the way above her knee and goes down below the mouth.

Speaking of archiving, are we gonna do a Record of Dojo War style summary thread after it's all said and done?

Megaman has no character. This is my problem with half these third party characters, Nintendo's stuff generally has an understated likeability, even something as ****ing simple as Falco or Kibry is portrayed in such a way that they're welcome additions. Megaman...he's just a robot with a dumb face. Why would I enjoy seeing him? Look at him:

MegamanBig.jpg

He looks retarded.

....I need to set aside some time one day to read through this.

And yeah, totally.

why would you wear such impractical boots anyway

They've just discovered what feet are, give them a break.

They're knee high boots, the only things that are impractical are the front and back flaps on the shoes. Unless they're extremely hard leather, they'd be flapping around every which way...

I'd like to imagine all these threads are being archived off site somewhere, and thousands of years in the future, some advanced civilization will find the raw data without having any of the links to what we're actually looking at. I can see the documentary now:

"It seems the people of this planet had a nightly ritual where they would pray for a sign from their God. Some days the message would bring disappointment, but on others, jubilation. There also seemed to be regular, two day periods in the cycle where the God would not appear. On these days, the people would descend into chaotic and deeply disturbing dark rituals. If we are to make any guesses from these writings, it would appear that they were waiting their God to deliver them a purple winged, dragon-like Messiah. The amount of text we found on this subject was astounding. Sadly, this Messiah would never appear."

This is brilliant, we need a general GAF version too.

There's probably some sort of clasp inside the shoe that the toe of the boot loops through and keeps in place. Either that, or the shoe and boot are in fact one and the same and they're attached at the sole. I'm curious if we'll be able to get to the bottom of this by pausing the game and zooming in at a downward angle on Lucina's foot. Or perhaps Sakurai will clarify in a Pic of the Day, or take a few minutes to explain it in a PowerPoint presentation during the next Direct. I also wouldn't put it past them to dedicate an Iwata Asks to the subject (if those ever come back).

Nope, all character models' feet are covered by black voids in order to prevent people from taking downboots.

Stop staring!

"Anthony sighed as he muttered to himself"

Holy shit, I'm getting dumber playing Other M. It's really putting me in Samus's shoes.

OK, it took me a while and I only got 30 seconds of access time, but I managed to hack Sakurai's computer.

In one directory I found the following folders:

--> smash/potd
--> smash/buttshots
--> smash/ridleypt1
--> smash/ridleypt2
--> smash/ridleypt3
--> smash/ridleypt4
--> smash/sakurcat
--> smash/menuporn
--> smash/fullroster
--> smash/boots

In that last one, I found this file:

Still not clear how the boots/shoes work. :-\

Let's be real, Sakurai won't let Tecmo one-up him with Ganondorf.

It's probably why he hasn't been revealed yet. He''s one of the characters with the most changes.

Pretty please.
Now he pulls out a trident for his down taunt! And he makes a vortex around him in his up B!

This is good.

Clearly fake, Ridley's too large to fit on a hard drive.

Years after mankind is wiped out: "Wow, a bunch of losers were really spending their final days discussing how their version of a game had a couple more pixels and frames per second?"

The Last of Us 27 Remaster Virtual Reality Edition is serious business.

There is still hope for Ganondorf to be reveal on Hyrule Warrior's release date next Thursday.

If we have any volunteer, but I'm not going to do it since it seem to be a lot of work. :P

I can understand the compliant of Megaman having no character. X got most of the character development. Pacman has lots of personality. Play Pacman 2.

However, Little Mac has zero character as well. So yeah...

Yeah we need
want
another trailer announcement on Friday or soon. I 'm not sure if we're going to get a general direct this month seeing as it would have made sense to a Hyrule Warriors direct after, instead of before one and the game could leak around late August. How long in advance was the Smash Direct announcement anyway?

The Hyrule Direct Aug. 4 was the week before the game comes out in Japan. So we'll probably get one for Smash the first week in September, at the latest.

I think they are going to give Hyrule Warrior all attentions right now as they can to push the sales. So I don't think we would see anything until after Aug 14.

Bingo. That's what I think so.

we're really behind on our quota of meme images that will date this thread in a matter of years

i'm gonna put out an order for some "what does the fox say" parodies about fox mccloud by tomorrow's potd

I think we already have a lot of memes during Smash 4. Ridley is too big, Alfonzo, Palutena, Chrom, etc.

Looking at the Wall of Shame from the combined Brawl threads, I barely recognize anyone:

1) Jiggy37 – 3,369
2) Iam Canadian – 1,989
3) Firestorm – 1,516
4) Zeed – 1,494
5) ShockingAlberto – 1,423

Well, it was 7 years ago. A lot of the people who used to post here have moved on. Folks like ShockingAlberto, SuperAngelo64 and RagnarokX are the exceptions. Also, it wasn't "combined" Brawl threads, as this was before the 20,000 post limit for threads (and, in fact, was one of the reasons that said limit was made, because the thread was TOO BIG to be moved to the Archive).

On the topic of the practically inevitable Smash 3DS Direct: What might they cover?

Of course, there's no guessing what stuff may be completely under wraps. But they have shown bits and pieces of other things that haven't been explained yet.

Like what appears to be a new Classic Mode, with branching paths and scalable difficulty reminiscent of the Fiend's Cauldron from Kid Icarus Uprising.

There was also that tabletop trophy battle mode they showed but didn't explain in the E3 Digital Event montage.

Of course, there are also a number of stages we haven't seen in action yet, like Tomodachi Life, Paper Mario and N's Castle.

I just wonder if they have enough content still under wraps that they could do a Smash Direct as robust as the one they did in April. So just as many new items, just as many new assist trophies and Pokémon, etc.
