...the last Project M patch was for version 3.0. 3.01 and 3.02 were patches to make sure that the alt costumes didn't lag up in FFA environments. Care to explain to me what patches were "fast" or "premature"? What's more, the Fox nerf was on something that most people didn't even know was a thing until they came out and said it (Fox isn't COMPLETELY invincible on start up of a Shine/Reflector). Everything else is Melee Fox.

To be fair to project M, most of their early balance patches were because the game was rapidly evolving, which is fine, since they're a mod and they're trying to get it right. The difference is that they release their updates to the public, unlike an in-development retail game, like Smash 4. It was actually FINE for project M to update and make frequent releases up until '3.0' because they were a mod, etc.

I wasn't saying what project M did was wrong or bad, but just using them as an example for rapid balance changes and that something similar shouldn't happen to a fully released retail game like smash 4.

The hell? Sakurai have fixed many complaints people had about smash already, are you gonna turn a blind eye to these? The reason all 4 smashes are so different to eachother is because Sakurai constantly makes changes, alot of address complaints from the previous title, and alot to add more options and features on to make it easier for everybody.

This I did not know.

C'mon man, I put some actual effort and thought into my post

My bad man ;_;

I totally agree with your previous post though.

I think even if they balanced the game completely around 1 v 1, no items the balance would still be pretty off. I'm not confident that the team has the experience or using the best methods to balance a Smash game. I think Sakurai brings a lot to the Smash series and the games would lose its charm without him but he balanced Melee by himself and something like less than a dozen people balanced Brawl. With teams that small it would be hard to balance a standard fighting game without various game modes, items, and stages.

Ideally, they would be dragging builds to every monthly Smash tourney to get feedback like Capcom does. And aside from vanilla Sagat and AE Yun and Yang, Street Fighter 4 is a very well balanced series.

Yeah I'm always amazed by how Melee turned out with Sakurai balancing alone (it wasn't a perfect balance but it worked). The meta game really closed the gap for some characters even though the same high tier characters were still generally used. But when Yoshi is picked by a top Smash player and surprises everyone it's pretty neat.

Since Melee—movesets have evolved drastically, and we're facing even less clones and more characters. Which may make the process he used for Melee far less effective. I agree, balancing for 1v1 wouldn't fix much imo. It would also probably affect character movesets since some moves are in the game solely because there is a FFA mode and are made to defend yourself/fend off against multiple players. A lot of moves actually.

Do you think they could reveal a newcomer during the stream? I myself kinda doubt it but you never know.
Edit:
Was there actually a reveal, or just previously unseen gameplay footage? I tuned in late.
They just showed some footage of the Zora Fountain, Lake Hylia, and Water Temple areas nothing too important. Still kinda cool though

Come to think of it, Smash 4's already rumored to be adopting both balance/maintenance and character DLC right? Wasn't that the last big tangent we had in terms of leaks before the weekend?

Edit: I really will never get this fanbase's complete aversion to post release support sometimes.

Same.

Seeing them play Smash constantly gets kind of boring... What happen to the E3 they had with this, constant coverage on multiple games and breaking it down... I really miss that even though it only recently happened...

Alright, which one of you is maxwell?

Is this a binary? Like, any small tweak to percentages or balance is still something of a gameplay change and is therefore a bad thing?

I don't really get that logic to be honest. Nobody's saying the game would drastically change in a post-release update, that'd be kinda weird, but would minor tweaks really set you off?
Minor tweaks would upset me, yes. I mean, I'm not going to stop playing or anything stupid like that, but possibly changing a character I like to play is not good. If a character is broken or weak, then they are broken or weak. Its not going to be pefectly balanced. They'll try, but it won't. And they shouldn't change characters after the game is released to try and balance it. I know probably all other fighting games do this, but the idea behind it sounds ridiculous to me. I bought a game and don't want the game I bought to change.

When its stuff like DLC, its fine because it just usually adds new levels or characters to a game instead of messing with current ones. Same with ones for fixing glitches like that Pokemon XY save glitch. Because its a patch to try and not let you lose your save.

But changing any part of the game itself, aside from glitches is really just dumb imo.

"guys sekuria hates the videos games balances, RIP smashings brothers"

"why even bother with patch DLC? it's not like the game's going to be balanced"

I see. I was in the dark yesterday since I was on a plane. Kinda wish they'd given him a new FS. Then again, I can say the same for a lot of the returning characters

Giga Bowser's actually kinda unique in that it's a replication of his SSBB moveset and movement now. Another would be nice, but it's kinda cool as it is currently.

I part of me wants an NES remix level too but I can't imagine how they'd implement that without it playing like a mix of 75m and the warioware stage...

I'm still surprised a Nintendoland stage has been showed off. That'd be a great stage that could incorporate multiple franchises at once.

Bring on that Ridley boss hazard.

The top of the tower in the plaza where you spend your coins seems like a perfect smash stage. Have all the miis and props and the train and everything zipping around on the ground.

Maybe you could walk all the way around the circular ring on the tower and the camera pivots around it.

That'd be cool. Maybe you could fight on the train as it goes through all the different attractions; 3DS shouldn't get all the train stage love!

I was wondering, do you think the Wii U version could get a Splatoon stage? It would be like Hanenbow or Pictochat in Brawl: a stage from a random Nintendo game or feature which otherwise has no representation in Smash. I don't see Inkling being on the roster (even as DLC,) but a stage seems plausible.

Splatoon is way too new for that.

A Nintendoland stage that doesn't actually include any of the games is a missed opportunity in my eyes.

Guys, are there differences in gameplay mechanics between the two versions? I've been following the latest impressions, but I haven't found anything about that yet.
