But if you squint hard enough...

Reading too deeply into the most inconsequential of statements is obligatory when it comes to Smash. Though sometimes a cloud is just a cloud.
But other times, a cloud clearly means Ridley :p

I doubt Falco is cut.. actually, every character that was not cut from melee to brawl are as safe as the original 12

If Wolf is back in this game, I think he could end up as a secret character again. Kind of like how they're (likely) keeping Jigglypuff as a secret character.

Speaking of which, with SSE gone, hopefully that means that unlocking characters will be more like Melee. Maybe it's just nostalgia goggles, but I remember how satisfying it was to unlock characters in that game. Often I'd stumble into them without even realizing what I'd done to challenge them. It really was great.

Is there any possible chance this game gets patched periodically after release to address balancing concerns?

Highly unlikely knowing Nintendo. The mechanics themselves won't change unless its game breaking.

Edit:

Any news/rumors pop up? I'm seeing Ridley everywhere, or is that a usual thing? Its a usual thing, isn't it?

Considering Sakurai's commented on the only reason for Brawl lack of such patches being due to the Wii's infrastructure, I'd say it's reasonably likely - though only to address fairly glaring issues which would also damage casual play.

I never played Melee and unlock characters in Brawl through SSE. I wonder what will be the fastest way to unlock all characters when people get their copy in September?

When I get the 3DS version I'm probably going to set the controls to:

A = Jump
B = Grab or Jump
X = Attack
Y = Special
R = Grab
L = Shield

It just seems more comfy to have my right thumb resting on X rather than A.

Yeah, that's true. I kind of wish I did it that way, would have been more fun.

Didn't you unlock most of the characters by just simply playing brawl over and over on differing stages with different characters? If you don't have friends over all the time that could get annoying, but that element of surprise certainly is something to experience. I just want there to be an Adventure mode of some kind in Wii U that is akin to Melee's, rather than the forced awkward platforming and enemy fighting of SSE.

I hope the circle pad pro can be used, so resting the thumb on A will be a bit more comfortable.

But knowing Sakurai, he's just gonna go with what he wants to do. Its mind boggling how so many people have complained about Smash and he hasn't responded to the majority of them. Only reason Smash 4 (in my opinion) is getting the popularity it is is because the competitive scene for Smash is pushing the game forward and supporting it so many others will follow suit. Once the game comes out, it'll be slow/clunky due to nerfing a lot of previous mechanics from other games.

Edit:

My inner smash heart got the best of me and I ranted ;__;

Even without SSE, unlocking characters is Brawl was pretty easy.

What I miss from Melee is that things were unlocked by playing different game modes
Like beating 15 minute multiman to unlock Falco (was him?), or beating Event 28 for Ganondorf..

IIRC, the only ways to unlock characters in Brawl was playing the "brawl" mode or playing SSE

theory: snake is in but sakurai wont announce him because so much awesome would detract impact from other announcements.

this post was made from psvita

Far be it from me to put a damper on your inner smash heart
:p
but I think you're overestimating the influence of the competitive scene. Smash has a wide fanbase, of which the competitive community is only a part. People would be plenty hyped without the competitive community, and their fears about the game won't slow sales at all. Just look at how successful Brawl was.

To be clear: I'm not trying to dismiss the competitive community or their concerns. I only mean that Smash's appeal is so broad that they are neither driving the hype, nor will they seriously dent the game's popularity. Heck, they'll be the first ones in line to buy the game, since they're (obviously) some of the biggest Smash fans around.

Every character had a non-SSE way to unlock them, though the final three (TLink, Wolf, and Jiggly) required that you beat SSE first. Most of the non-SSE methods were kinda bad, though, especially ROB's, which just required that you get enough trophies. Which is a bit tricky without playing the SSE, haha.

Doesn't look like it'll be slower than brawl so that's a big plus :P

I wish I could copy/paste Render artwork onto a screen for attention.

Its really old fake leak from a while back. I just want Ridley in the game.

Yeah, this is spot on. Its just I believe the competitive scene is what is going to keep the game alive after quite a while, just look at Smash, 10 years of playing the game and its only gotten more popular because of the competitive scene. From what I've seen in a couple of game-centric areas, all I see is PM being played casually and Melee, no Brawl in sight. It just seems off that Nintendo would shrug off one of their most passionate communities so easily.

Very true but from what I've heard from people who have played the actually game, its smooth but clunky due to all the downtime/lag put into moves and jumps. The game is fun but it just doesn't feel right.

He still has to build the game as a 4 way fighter.

So of course he cannot listen to the community. They represent only one kind of Smash Bros player.

The "majority"?

"so many people"?

I think you're falling into the common pitfall of believing the competitive scene of ANY game represents any majority of its players. There are many more moving parts, modes and frankly audiences that a game like Smash has to balance that something like Street Fighter doesn't. It's hard and mistakes can/will be made. People need to stop with the narrative that Sakurai is some obstinate megalomaniac that likes to crap on competitive players for shits and giggles. He is a human being, which means he's imperfect, who is trying to serve a wide range of audiences with often disparate and conflicting tastes.
